Chapter 1 Author Note
Hello, everyone! I’m Qichang Jingxin.
Well… although there’s a lot I’d like to say, first of all I owe every reader a big apology—sorry, everyone.
The sudden idea of putting the book behind the VIP wall actually goes back to last October. I’m a college senior now, so I went to a ton of company info-sessions; every interview ended with a red light. Looking at a résumé that even I found embarrassing, I was pretty depressed.
After stewing in random thoughts for a while, I asked my editor about VIP-locking the novel—mainly to get some feedback on my writing level. We talked, and eventually I decided to go for it.
That said, starting a brand-new original story and building an audience from zero is exhausting, so I chose to VIP-lock the existing book This Isn’t the Date I Wanted.
Thinking back, I’ve been writing this novel for almost four years now (though updates have been sloooow, lol).
I remember beginning it simply because I had nothing to do the summer after the college-entrance exam. I’d just read Date A Live, was hooked on gender-bender stories, and the random idea popped into my head: “What if the protagonist gender-swapped into a Spirit and got conquered by Shidou?” I never imagined it would achieve these numbers—truly a case of “plant a willow without trying, and shade appears.”
At first I was just a casual Date A Live fan—neither in love with nor hating the original. But as the story’s popularity rose, I began plotting seriously, reread the canon, and gradually fell for characters like Shidou and Tohka. I also grew attached to the Spirit I created, Ryougi Yumezuki, and through the book met many like-minded friends. It’s been wonderful.
I’m incredibly grateful I wrote this fan-fiction.
Anyway, enough sentimental rambling. I used to claim I’d never sign a contract for fan-works, and now I’ve slapped my own face—sorry again, everyone.
Although the VIP decision was a bit hasty, since it’s made, I’ll treat it seriously.
As for bonus-chapter rules… honestly, I can’t predict how much free time I’ll have, and some other books have update schedules that look absolutely insane. I’m not confident I can match that level or speed. If you feel like tipping or voting for monthly tickets, just do what makes you happy; I’ll keep squeezing out updates whenever I can.
That’s about it for my VIP-launch speech. Please keep supporting This Isn’t the Date I Wanted from here on!
