Chapter 8 Chapter 8 — June 8th, 2021: On the Suppression of Gender-Transformation Stories, and My Decision

Dec 03, 2025 342 words

I need to emphasize this: it isn’t just SF suppressing gender-transformation stories—the entire online market is doing the same. Unless you go to a very small, very new site… but we all know how that goes—no traffic.

As for writing “gender-disguise” or “gender-ambiguity” variations—none of that helps. The restriction applies to the entire gender-transformation genre, meaning male-to-female stories will be blocked regardless. Unless the transformation is into something non-human.

I originally planned to switch platforms, but unfortunately, the conditions they offered were below what I expected, so I decided not to go.

My current decision is to stay on SF, and for the new book:

It cannot carry the tag “Gender Transformation”

But it can use the tag “Marriage”

And at the beginning of the story, the protagonist’s gender must remain ambiguous

Meaning: I cannot openly acknowledge that the MC was a man in their previous life

This is now the standard approach taken by most gender-transformation authors online.

The new book will follow this approach too. So if you see the beginning without a clear gender stated—just assume the protagonist is male. As for how that male past will be shown, I will hint at it through various subtle details later in the story.

We’re doing this so the gender-transformation genre can continue to survive. I hope everyone can understand.

Everyone knows I write gender-bender romance (变嫁). So if you see the “Marriage” tag in the book, then it’s a gender-bender romance.
If there is no “Marriage” tag—then it isn’t.

As for what I’ll write next…
According to the original plan, I would continue writing gender-bender romance—but with the current situation, we’ll have to wait and see. If the restrictions are lifted, then yes, I will keep writing it. But if things get worse, then I’ll probably have to write a male-protagonist story instead.

That’s basically all. I hope everyone understands.
