Chapter 35 00035
35 Chapter - The Difference Between Phantom God And T0
"Hmm~ The 'cat' you picked up this time has quite a temper."
"Don't call me a cat!"
Ye Yao turned her head, glaring as if her fur was bristling.
The night enveloped the courtyard gently, like a piece of warm, dark jade.
A young girl sat on an old, rattan swing chair.
Her dark, long hair cascaded over her shoulders like a waterfall.
A few playful strands of hair gently brushed with the slight swaying of the swing.
As the swing moved, the girl, like a butterfly poised to take flight, lightly brushed the shifting light and shadows on the ground.
"But you really do look like a fluffy white kitten. Did I say something wrong?"
The girl didn't swing high; she just lightly pushed off the ground with her feet, letting the swing carry her in small, lazy, back-and-forth motions.
Her small feet, clad in white cotton socks, dangled in the air, occasionally kicking unconsciously.
If anyone had stumbled into the courtyard and witnessed this scene, they would likely have been startled.
After all, what normal person would be swinging alone in a courtyard in the middle of the night?
Even ghosts would be scared stiff.
If it weren't for the girl's exceptional beauty, Ye Yao might have gotten goosebumps.
"Xia Lian, don't create unnecessary conflict with our new companion."
"Mu Luo, you're as boring as ever."
During their brief exchange, Ye Yao finally learned their names.
"I thought you all called each other by your Sequence numbers?" Ye Yao couldn't help but quip.
Mu Luo shook his head: "We are companions who support each other. Impersonal titles would only drive us apart."
"Hehe~ Only Mu Luo thinks that way."
Xia Lian chuckled softly, then pushed off the swing with force and gracefully jumped to the ground, light and elegant.
"'Supporting each other,' that sounds really nice, but others don't think so."
Xia Lian walked up to Ye Yao, starting to curiously examine her.
"It seems this cat's issues aren't as big as the last one's. Besides looking a bit unfriendly, she seems perfectly normal."
Then she looked at Mu Luo.
"Is this really a Sequence Esper you brought back from outside? I feel like you kidnapped her from a healthy family. Have you perhaps become a human trafficker?"
Although Xia Lian had a lovable face, her words were merciless.
Mu Luo wasn't angered by Xia Lian.
His emotions were always stable.
"She is indeed a Sequence Esper. At such a young age, she killed a Flame Demon and can intermittently evade the Countermeasure Bureau Espers' control. Ordinary Espers can't do that."
"Wow, she even has a life on her hands. I thought she was a good cat who wouldn't even extend her claws if you touched her paw pads."
Xia Lian covered her mouth with one hand, feigning surprise.
"She looks ferociously cute. Would I get scratched if I petted her head?"
Ye Yao retorted angrily.
"That wasn't a person! I just crushed an ant!"
"Mm~ Let me pet your head, and I'll believe you."
Xia Lian wore a composed smile, completely unfazed by Ye Yao's killing of the Flame Demon.
Ye Yao's reply was only two words.
"No way."
"Bad cat."
"You're not a good person either!"
Ye Yao huffed softly, taking a step back to evade Xia Lian's outstretched hand.
Just because you're a beautiful girl doesn't mean you can take advantage of a loli!
Xia Lian wasn't discouraged; instead, she laughed happily.
"Hahaha~ How interesting, Mu Luo. You've finally picked up an interesting cat. Life shouldn't be boring anymore."
Xia Lian didn't continue teasing. She waved at Ye Yao and then turned to leave.
"We'll have plenty of time to get along in the future. Remember not to run away and become a stray cat, or I'll definitely come find you."
Ye Yao puffed out her cheeks, staring at Xia Lian's retreating back.
"How inexplicable. Are all the people here strange like her?"
Mu Luo: "I can't say."
Ye Yao suddenly recalled something.
"Oh, right, what's her Sequence number?"
Mu Luo didn't hide it but frankly informed Ye Yao.
"Sequence 009."
"Oh! It's a single digit!" Ye Yao exclaimed, but then quickly tilted her head and asked, "Is that very powerful?"
Up until now,
Ye Yao still didn't know how significant the difference in Sequence Esper numbers was.
She was Sequence 001, rumored to be able to destroy the world.
Could the Espers with later Sequence numbers also do that?
It seemed unlikely.
Otherwise, the national Countermeasure Bureau wouldn't have placed the strongest modern Esper, Lou Wei, by her side.
Fortunately, Mu Luo had looked into this matter and could answer Ye Yao's question.
"Espers in the top ten Sequence numbers have immense potential. Those at the Countermeasure Bureau predict that once their mental strength reaches S-rank, they can single-handedly destroy a nation."
Ye Yao's eyes widened.
"Doesn't that make them a second Lou Wei?"
Oh no.
She didn't expect there to be another stat monster here.
Mu Luo shook his head.
"Xia Lian still has a lot of room for improvement."
"Oh, future potential." Ye Yao instantly understood.
Not capable now.
Then she wasn't afraid.
"Moreover, even if Xia Lian's mental strength reaches S-rank, I don't think she can defeat that monster."
Mu Luo's eyes were filled with apprehension towards Lou Wei.
He had escaped death many times at Lou Wei's hands and had summarized an experience regarding that man.
That was: never have any thoughts of fighting.
If there was any sign of trouble, running away was always the right move.
Ye Yao wasn't surprised; she simply let out a sigh.
"The difference between a God of Illusion and a T0."
"Let's go. Our companions probably haven't rested yet. I'll take you to meet them."
"Not resting so late? Are they all night owls?"
Ye Yao muttered softly, her urge to complain simply irrepressible.
The two walked into the spacious living room.
The house was estimated to be several hundred square meters.
It was hard to imagine how Mu Luo and his companions found such a lavish hiding place.
Ye Yao couldn't help but ask.
Mu Luo didn't hide it.
"This is an entertainment residence built in the suburbs by a rich man. We are just borrowing it for a period."
As for whether it was forcibly borrowed or voluntarily, it was unclear.
Mu Luo didn't elaborate.
Ye Yao began to observe the interior style.
Though called a farmhouse, the interior resembled a Western-style castle.
Stairs on both sides connected to the second floor.
It exuded a «N.o.v.e.l.i.g.h.t» rich classical atmosphere.
One had to admit, that rich man really knew how to live.
Mu Luo walked to the center, and nearly ten black shadows quickly extended from his feet to the second floor.
Clearly, he was going to knock on doors.
"Come out and say hello to our new companion."
The first to respond was Xia Lian, who had just left.
"Hi~ We meet again."
Ye Yao eyed her warily: "What tricks are you up to now?"
"In such a symbolic occasion, of course, I can't be absent, can I?"
Xia Lian circled Ye Yao once, then bent down slightly to gaze deeply into her eyes, revealing a charming smile.
"It's a rare opportunity for everyone to meet."
Ye Yao was just about to "hiss" at Xia Lian's sudden closeness.
But the sound from upstairs interrupted Ye Yao.
Someone was coming down the stairs.
Looking closely, it was a petite figure.
Mu Luo said in a calm voice: "Sequence 028, Wu Mi. She might need your help."
Xia Lian added from the side: "The kitten with the biggest illness. Can't tease her, not fun."
