205 Chapter - Room Story
"Where are they?"
Bai Cheng called out, but there was no response.
The nine wooden carvings not far upstairs were still there, as if they were always staring at her back.
But two people just disappeared into thin air, how was that possible?
Bai Cheng immediately intended to turn back, but as her gaze swept to the top of the stairs, she suddenly noticed a brand new step.
All the other steps were decaying wooden stairs, dilapidated from years of disrepair, but the paint on the step at the end was shiny and new, looking out of place with everything around it.
Bai Cheng was certain that there was absolutely no such step when they went upstairs before.
"Appeared out of nowhere?"
She called out twice more, but the surroundings remained deathly silent.
Bai Cheng did not turn back, but continued to walk up.
She carefully stepped on this step, and unexpectedly, there was no reaction.
Beside her was a wooden door to a room, Bai Cheng was about to open it, but as she moved, a clear sound of footsteps came from behind her.
She instinctively looked back, but saw nothing.
Bai Cheng, not believing in evil, took another step forward, and the footsteps indeed sounded at the same moment.
"Rule-based horror?"
This was a transcendent world, which meant that ghosts didn't seem to be anything unusual.
Since it posed no threat to her, Bai Cheng simply ignored it and pushed open the wooden door in front of her.
But the next second, that sense of disorientation struck again.
After a brief dizziness, Bai Cheng found herself still in the same spot!
Yu Nian beside her had a look of fear, while Leng Ningxue on the other side was frowning, deep in thought.
It turned out they had been standing still all along!
"When?" Bai Cheng looked grave; she hadn't realized when she had entered the illusion.
The light shone on the third-floor corridor, revealing the same nine wooden carvings.
At this moment, Leng Ningxue, who had been silent, seemed to have come to her senses and said, "Bai Cheng, Yu Nian, there are a total of three tokens on this ship. As long as we destroy them, the curse on the ship can be broken. It just so happens that if we split up, we can clear the level faster."
Bai Cheng was stunned by her words, while Yu Nian immediately retorted, "This, Ningxue, what are you talking about?"
"The way to clear the level," she said matter-of-factly.
Yu Nian continued to press, "How do you know?"
It was important to remember that the three of them had been together the entire time and had not obtained any clues.
But Leng Ningxue's subsequent reply was even more bizarre: "Didn't the crew member just tell us? Didn't you listen carefully?"
She looked puzzled, as if she didn't understand why the two of them were looking at her like that.
"Crew member? Where's a crew member?"
"And look at this dilapidated scene around us, where does it look like anyone is here?"
Leng Ningxue was startled, then belatedly realized.
"So, the one who was just talking to me..." Her pupils constricted, and she was already terrified by the thought.
Yu Nian subconsciously took a step back: "No, it couldn't be that black shadow from before, could it?"
She initially didn't want to believe it, but thinking back carefully, it indeed didn't seem like an illusion caused by fear.
"Stop creating panic; there's actually nothing here."
Bai Cheng spoke, signaling the two not to waste time and to investigate quickly.
To prevent any further accidents, the three of them held hands this time, preparing to explore together.
But as soon as they took a step, the footsteps from behind them sounded again.
Bai Cheng's steps involuntarily faltered: "Did you hear that?"
"What?" Yu Nian and Leng Ningxue, pulling Bai Cheng's hand up another step, turned back and asked, puzzled.
"Footsteps, there are footsteps behind us."
Yu Nian immediately trembled in fear: "Xiao Cheng, don't scare me! There's clearly no sound!"
Leng Ningxue also denied it: "Indeed, I didn't hear any footsteps."
But before Bai Cheng could respond, the three of them just exchanged a glance and reacted simultaneously.
"Each of us can see a different anomaly!"
In other words, the black shadow that flashed before Yu Nian was real, the crew member who talked to Leng Ningxue was also true, and as for the footsteps behind Bai Cheng... clearly, what was following the three of them was definitely not human!
"This, this, why is this like a horror game!" Yu Nian was already a bit flustered; she was most afraid of things like ghosts and spirits.
But there was no use in trying to pay attention to these unseen and untouchable things.
The three of them had no choice but to compose themselves and continue forward.
This time, the bright step at the top had disappeared, and Bai Cheng believed this could be used as a basis for judging whether they were in an illusion.
Pushing open the first door, inside was a storage ✧ NоvеIight ✧ (Original source) room filled with various cleaning tools.
There were no useful tools inside, only a line of small writing on a parchment nailed to the back of the door.
"You must stop the captain from resurrecting, or it will be over!"
"Is this a clue?" Bai Cheng pouted.
Next, the second door, still the same layout, with completely different words written on the parchment.
"The captain's evil ritual killed everyone!"
Then the third room.
"He wants to resurrect and sacrifice more people; we must stop Him!"
"This doesn't look like a clue; instead, it's piecing together a strange story sentence by sentence?" Leng Ningxue guessed.
The three, without any clues, were about to enter the fourth room when Bai Cheng suddenly noticed that the footsteps behind her were getting closer and closer.
Looking back, the space behind her was still empty, and she didn't pay it any mind.
"The three tokens are the key to sealing the captain; you must not destroy them!"
"It's actually the same as what Ningxue just said!"
"No, that crew member told me to destroy the three tokens, but the parchment tells us not to destroy them..." She frowned and looked at Bai Cheng, only to find that she seemed to be in a daze.
"Bai Cheng?" Leng Ningxue called out again.
Bai Cheng finally came to her senses; just now, that feeling of disorientation had returned.
She suddenly realized something.
Hearing Leng Ningxue's call in front of her, she merely glanced at the parchment in front of her and immediately said, "No matter what it is, the most important thing now is to find them first."
The three of them exited the room and continued their search.
The next few rooms were descriptions of stories on the ship, with no substantial information.
At this moment, the footsteps behind Bai Cheng were getting closer and closer, as if right against her back.
Just then, Yu Nian suddenly panicked and shined her flashlight into a room, exclaiming, "I saw that black shadow go in!"
And Leng Ningxue, upon hearing this, rushed forward without a word.
Bai Cheng wanted to stop her, but saw Yu Nian's restraining gesture beside her.
Coupled with the onset of disorientation, her legs felt heavy as if filled with lead for a moment.
Crack — the wooden carving upstairs suddenly shattered.
