41 Chapter - Undead Monster

Bai Cheng’s movements froze, and she immediately turned her head to look outside the car door.

However, her vision was blocked by the gray mist, and she could only vaguely see Akai standing on the muddy swamp, muscles tensed and face alert.

Bai Cheng composed herself, took out her flashlight, and shined it forward; a large amount of light was swallowed by the mist, and she couldn't see anything beyond the small area directly in front of her.

Looking at Akai’s back, she wanted to ask a question but was worried about distracting him, so she could only nervously stare in the direction Akai was vigilant towards.

While worried, Bai Cheng was also curious about what kind of creature these demonic beasts truly were.

Demonic beasts… Akai is also a demonic beast, and a Golden Legend at that; a one-on-one fight should be no problem, right?

But the next second, several faint blue lights flickered continuously in the mist in front of Bai Cheng.

They were like ghost fires, or perhaps eyes, emitting an unsettling glow that constantly flickered in mid-air.

“That is…” Bai Cheng’s gaze sharpened, followed by a shock, “Holy cow, a whole group!”

Just then, those faint blue lights twisted and moved within the mist, and then suddenly, a black shadow instantly rushed out of the mist!

One, two, three!

They flew and circled in mid-air, a long black trailing extension from beneath their dark robes, completely surrounding Akai in the blink of an eye.

Their speed was so fast that Bai Cheng couldn’t even clearly see what they were.

Suddenly, the outermost black shadow stopped.

By the light, Bai Cheng clearly saw that the entity was draped in a black robe but had no feet or hands; beneath its wide hood was an extremely dense black mist, within which two faint blue flames constantly flickered and danced.

What is this thing?!

Before Bai Cheng could react, the black shadow suddenly moved.

With a ~Nоvеl𝕚ght~ wave of its sleeve, it flung out a blue fireball, heading straight for her!

At this moment, although Bai Cheng was flustered, she wasn't so scared as to stand still; her first reaction was to use the train as cover to dodge the opponent's attack.

However, before Bai Cheng could make a move, a fiery red pillar of fire, coming from far away, directly engulfed the incoming blue fireball, and then this pillar of fire, like a flexible whip, suddenly lashed out in mid-air.

As the fiery whip swept past, a dazzling vortex instantly formed around Akai, then exploded violently.

All the surrounding black shadows, without exception, were enveloped.

It was as if these creatures had been doused with gasoline; they ignited upon contact and were quickly consumed by the fierce flames.

It was also at the moment they were ignited that these creatures decisively gave up their attack, desperately trying to escape into the mist.

But the speed of the fire's spread was even faster than Bai Cheng had imagined; before these black shadows could fly into the mist, their entire black robes were burned away, completely turning into ash.

It wasn’t until several seconds later that the stunned Bai Cheng finally reacted: “It’s over?”

But after all, it was her first time facing a demonic beast, and she still felt some lingering fear, “Are these… ghosts?”

Akai still hadn’t lowered his guard; he explained without turning his head, “Miss, these are undead creatures; they have no physical form, but fortunately, their only weakness is fire.”

Bai Cheng also understood Akai’s implied meaning: if their weakness hadn't happened to be something Akai could counter, he probably wouldn't have been able to do anything against these intangible demonic creatures.

Seeing that Akai was still on guard, Bai Cheng then asked, “Will they attack again?”

“Your subordinate cannot be certain. These undead creatures generally do not need to eat, and they are gregarious. It’s very likely they attacked you because we accidentally trespassed into their territory.”

Hearing Akai’s explanation, Bai Cheng also frowned; the train’s track was fixed, and she couldn’t control it.

At this moment, Bai Cheng also picked up the green employee card generated below the screen.

She looked up at the prompt on the screen.

“Your employee Akai killed 5 Phantoms, gaining 5 experience points!”

“So these things are called Phantoms, and killing them gives ten times the experience of a Silent Night beast!”

Bai Cheng’s face lit up with joy; in her opinion, although these Phantoms were demonic beasts, Akai still instantly killed them.

What was the difference from killing ordinary beasts?

“But they don’t seem very strong?” Bai Cheng rubbed her chin, then looked towards Akai’s broad back outside the door, “Akai, are you okay?”

If possible, wouldn't that mean experience points would skyrocket!

“If they are ordinary gregarious demonic beasts, your subordinate can handle them, but I cannot guarantee that solitary demonic beasts will not appear in Silent Night.”

Bai Cheng immediately looked confused upon hearing this: “Is there a difference?”

Akai continued to explain: “The individual strength of gregarious demonic beasts is generally very weak, but their advantage is that most of them possess intelligence, and some races can even develop their own technology and magic.”

“They even have civilization?” Bai Cheng felt incredible; she finally understood why there were no humans among the natives of this world.

“That means weak demonic beasts are definitely gregarious, but gregarious demonic beasts are not necessarily weak.”

Bai Cheng frowned; this wasn't hard to understand, much like the living habits of those beasts, just an enhanced version.

But this also meant that she might even be chased by high-tech demonic beasts in the future.

Things are starting to get interesting now...

“What about the other type, the solitary ones?” Bai Cheng asked again.

Akai said in a deep voice: “Solitary demonic beasts, on the other hand, are the opposite; their individual strength is powerful, and after reaching adulthood, they will possess at least Elite-level strength…”

“Huh?” She almost thought she heard wrong.

She didn't expect there to be something even more sinister!

Bai Cheng originally thought Akai’s Elite-level strength was due to being a Golden Legend, but she didn’t expect solitary demonic beasts to start at Elite-level!

But at the same time, she also realized the seriousness of the situation.

If an Elite-level demonic beast really appeared in Silent Night, even if Akai could defeat it, he would certainly not be able to instantly kill it.

And since they were in the Phantoms' territory, if Akai were tied up and they took the opportunity to flank her, wouldn’t she be in danger!

“Gregarious demonic beasts possess intelligence…” Bai Cheng didn’t believe they wouldn’t seize this opportunity.

This meant her current safety entirely depended on luck, betting that there were no wandering Elite demonic beasts nearby.

Bai Cheng also understood Akai’s implication: “So the safest way now is to leave this place.”

“Miss, you don’t need to put yourself in danger just to gain experience. For your safety, your subordinate suggests leaving,” Akai proposed.

Bai Cheng looked at his resolute red eyes and said nothing, instead turning her gaze to the stack of employee cards in her hand.

“What if I have a second employee?”
