Chapter 16 016 Absolutely Perfect

Dec 02, 2025 1,662 words

After dinner, Lu Yu sank into Lin Beixing’s soft, comfortable chair to rest.
He’d flipped through her backpack—though most of the books inside were actually the ones *he* had packed before the swap, so he knew exactly which textbooks he’d brought home.

He hadn’t paid the slightest attention to whether teachers had assigned homework today.
But if he remembered correctly, Lin Beixing had mentioned there was another set of practice problems waiting at home—and on the way back from school, her mother had said she’d brought some past exam papers too.

It was going to be a heavy workload.

Lu Yu flipped open the workbooks and test papers, glanced over them casually…
…then immediately gave up.

After all, it had been over two years since he’d seriously studied anything. His academic progress was probably still stuck on the very first lesson of freshman year.

A pen pinched between his lips and nose, Lu Yu pouted, leaning back in the chair and staring up at the ceiling.

The crystal chandelier overhead was a bit too bright. The room temperature, however, was perfectly comfortable—thanks to the built-in central air conditioning gently blowing cool air from the wall.

His gaze drifted to the narrow cot tucked against the far wall.

This wasn’t Lin Beixing’s actual bedroom—her private room was right next door. This study was purely for doing homework.
So this little bed was likely just for short naps.

Lu Yu stared longingly at the tiny cot, lost in thought.

Known as the class’s “Sleeping God,” he hadn’t gotten nearly enough rest today.
Normally, he’d nap after lunch—but to maintain Lin Beixing’s pristine image, he’d forced himself to stay awake through sheer willpower.

Now, he was utterly drained—especially mentally. His nerves had been wound tight ever since stepping into this mansion.

With a sigh, he dropped the pen, clapped his hands together, and decided to lie down for a bit.
Anyway, he’d already called in “sick” to Teacher Gao today. Even though the “period” excuse was fake, he figured—if you’re gonna fake it, fake it all the way.

He stood up—
—and suddenly, a strange wave of dizziness surged from deep within his body.

His head spun violently, his vision blackened, and his heart pounded.
At first, he assumed it was low blood sugar—probably due to Lin Beixing’s weak constitution.

But the next second…

His sight slowly cleared.

And when Lu Yu finally took in his surroundings, he froze in utter shock.

“Meow~?”
The little black cat sleeping on his lap lifted its head and let out a soft, questioning meow.

Lu Yu opened his mouth: “Meiqiu?” *(“Coalball”)*

He called the cat’s name. Meiqiu blinked back at him, looking utterly confused—as if wondering why its owner was acting so spaced out.

“We switched back… right now?”

Lu Yu stared in disbelief at his own arms.

These solid hands… the defined muscle lines… the prominent veins…
They were *his* arms!
A man’s hands!

In that moment, Lu Yu felt an overwhelming wave of joy at regaining the body he’d inhabited for eighteen years.

The familiar surroundings. The familiar rattling of the old electric fan.
Even the noisy, annoying sounds from the late-night snack stalls outside his window now felt strangely comforting.

He was nearly moved to tears.

Then he looked down at the desk in front of him.

Completed homework.
Deliberately messy, sloppy handwriting—mimicked perfectly to look like his own…

“Perfect.”

Lu Yu couldn’t help but murmur in awe.

He quickly cleared the desk, making plenty of space.
Turned on the computer.

Now—finally—he could dive into Summoner’s Rift and unleash the gaming energy he’d been bottling up all day!

—

Meanwhile…

Lin Beixing’s expression was grim.

Standing at her own desk, she stared silently at the mountain of untouched worksheets and exam booklets piled before her.

Of course, getting her body back was a good thing.

But… she’d *just finished* Lu Yu’s homework.
And her *own* assignments? Not a single word had been written.

Also… what was this untouched cup of brown sugar ginger tea doing beside her?

Frowning, she clutched her head in despair.

“…”

“LU YUUUUUUUUUUU!!!”

—

The next morning, Lu Yu whistled a cheerful tune as he took a cold shower.

He carefully scooped the overflowing cat food from Meiqiu’s bowl into a clean plastic bag—so the kibble wouldn’t get damp and spoil.
Lu Yu was always meticulous about his cat’s care… far more so than he was about himself.

“Alright, Meiqiu—guard the house well.”

He ruffled the little black cat’s head, slung his backpack over his shoulder, and stood up.

Meiqiu lifted its inky-black face and let out a soft, affectionate “Meow~.”

Stepping outside, Lu Yu began another day of glorious, guilt-free slacking off.

Breakfast was always casual for him—he just ate whatever street food happened to be available.
Though his mom’s monthly allowance was enough to keep him well-fed, between rent, his own needs, and Meiqiu’s expenses, his budget was stretched to the absolute limit. No room for luxuries.

Today, there was a steamed bun cart downstairs. He bought two meat-filled buns, clamped them between his teeth, and headed toward school.

The walk took five minutes—and if he hurried, he could make it in three.
His rental place was *that* close to campus. On days he was late, he could even hear the school bell ringing from his room.

The neighborhood was a bit run-down, but Lu Yu didn’t mind. In fact, he loved that he could sleep two extra minutes while everyone else had already rushed off to class.

It had rained last night, so the snack stalls below his building hadn’t opened—giving him a rare, peaceful night’s sleep. His mood was excellent.

When Lu Yu arrived at the classroom, he deliberately glanced over at Lin Beixing’s seat.

Even the class monitor hadn’t shown up yet—he must’ve come way too early today.

He set a bottle of iced water he’d bought from the convenience store on his desk, dropped his bag, and pulled a book from his drawer, flipping through a few pages.

Then it hit him.

Wait—why was *he* reading as soon as he got to school? He wasn’t Lin Beixing anymore!

“Bro Lu!”

Just as he was about to close the book, his deskmate Ren Jie suddenly grabbed his hand and pinned it down.

“Are you still sick?!” Ren Jie asked, his eyes wide with genuine worry.

“What sickness?” Lu Yu asked, confused.

“Study-induced stress disorder!” Ren Jie exclaimed. “Please, stop studying! You were acting so weird yesterday—it freaked me out!”

Lu Yu: “….”

He fell silent for a moment.

He and Lin Beixing hadn’t had time to discuss what *she* did in his body yesterday—so he had no idea what interactions had transpired between “him” and his own deskmate.

To avoid exposing any inconsistencies, he simply nodded.

Seeing that, Ren Jie visibly relaxed. Today’s Lu Yu seemed normal again—calm, composed, not spaced out like he’d been all afternoon yesterday.

He let out a breath of relief and tugged Lu Yu back into his seat.

“Hey, Bro Lu—got a quick question for you.”

“Go ahead.”

As long as it wasn’t about homework, Lu Yu was usually happy to chat.

Ren Jie then pulled out his phone and said coolly:
“How do you beat *this* level in Happy消除 *(Happy Pop)*?”

Lu Yu: “???”

Seeing Lu Yu’s utterly bewildered expression, Ren Jie looked even more confused.

“What? Didn’t *you* teach me to play this yesterday? You said the levels get harder and harder… I tried it last night—it’s actually pretty fun! I stayed up all night and got to level 200, but now I’m totally stuck…”

“Bro, please—help me pass this level!”

Lu Yu stared at the cartoon chicken wiggling on Ren Jie’s screen—and fell into deep, painful silence.

Sure, he played *every* kind of game under the sun, and played them well…
…but this particular game? He’d never even touched it.

“Bro Lu… uuuuh… save me!”

Watching his deskmate’s earnest, pleading face, Lu Yu felt the hairs on his neck prickle with dread.
