Chapter 20 020 She Keeps Looking at Me
Lu Yu had no idea why the school beauty kept turning around to look at him today.
He didn’t really care—being stared at by a pretty girl wouldn’t make him lose any weight.
But his desk mate was another story entirely.
His desk mate had been buzzing with excitement the whole morning.
“Hey, hey! Look—she’s turning around again!”
“Bro Lu! Quick, look toward the class monitor!”
Ren Jie was practically vibrating with adrenaline, jabbing Lu Yu repeatedly in the back with his sharp elbow.
Lu Yu felt like he was about to cough up blood—he’d barely slept a minute this morning, all thanks to Ren Jie’s relentless poking.
“She keeps looking at you—why?!” Ren Jie asked, pretending he didn’t already have his own theory.
In his mind, it was crystal clear:
This was the stirrings of young love!
Lu Yu just shrugged. “Who knows? Maybe she’s trying to make sure I study.”
“Oh, right…” Ren Jie suddenly remembered.
Yesterday at noon, when they’d bumped into Lu Yu and Lin Beixing coming down the stairs together, the two of them had claimed it was because “the teacher assigned Lin Beixing to supervise Lu Yu’s studies.”
He’d nearly forgotten that excuse. Now that it came back to him, he actually felt a bit disappointed.
“Just for that?” he grumbled, unsatisfied.
“No normal person would turn around to look every few seconds. I think she’s got a crush on you.”
Lu Yu idly twirled his pen, then happened to glance up—just in time to catch Lin Beixing looking his way again.
Well, technically glaring.
Especially when she saw him holding a pen in one hand and scrolling on his phone with the other, completely zoning out in class. Her eyes sharpened instantly.
Lu Yu had a pretty good guess what she was thinking.
It probably had something to do with what she’d said to him that morning while collecting homework.
He was almost certain she’d opened his desk drawer and seen *that thing* inside.
She must have a million questions.
But honestly, Lu Yu couldn’t care less about any of it.
He had zero interest in explaining himself—or in studying. All he wanted was to survive the rest of senior year, and then he’d finally be free.
He dropped his pen and leaned forward onto his arms, ready to nap.
“Hey, hey—bro!”
“Don’t call me. Just wake me up when it’s lunchtime.”
Ren Jie stifled his excitement and reluctantly mumbled, “Okay…”
He wanted to ask, “Aren’t you eating lunch with your girlfriend?”—but held his tongue.
After all, saying that out loud might earn him a solid punch from Lu Yu, who clearly wasn’t in the best mood.
Lu Yu slept straight through till noon.
The classroom buzzed with chatter and the scraping of chairs—lunch break had started.
Knock, knock.
Someone tapped twice on his desk.
The sound felt oddly familiar. Since Lin Beixing had been keeping a close eye on him all morning, Lu Yu instinctively assumed it was her coming to scold him again.
Without even opening his eyes, he muttered, “What is it, Lin Beixing?”
The person standing opposite his desk: “????”
“Uh, bro… wasn’t it me you asked to wake you up at noon?” Ren Jie said, bewildered.
“If you’d rather the class monitor wake you, should I go get her?”
Lu Yu paused.
He must’ve been half-asleep to mistake Ren Jie for her.
Then it hit him—yesterday at this exact time, he and Lin Beixing had swapped bodies right here in this classroom. That incident had now been a full day in the past…
“Let’s go eat,” Lu Yu said, grabbing his water bottle and taking a swig.
It had been iced this morning, but now it was lukewarm. He desperately needed an ice-cold Coke to stay alive.
Ren Jie trailed behind him, wearing a sly, knowing grin.
Lu Yu knew exactly what was running through his friend’s mind.
“Why don’t you just admit it, bro?” Ren Jie teased.
“You were dreaming about her, weren’t you? Daydreaming in broad daylight about something… steamy— OW! Hey! Hands off! A gentleman uses words, not fists!”
Before Ren Jie could keep babbling, Lu Yu’s fist came flying.
Boys roughhousing was normal—and though Lu Yu rarely threw punches, when he did, he didn’t hold back, especially with this particular desk mate.
“Aww, bro! You’ve changed!” Ren Jie whined, clutching his arm dramatically.
“Yesterday, you flinched when I tapped your shoulder, but today you’re straight-up beating me up!”
Lu Yu frowned and hit him even harder.
“Speak normally.”
He absolutely couldn’t stand grown men whining like that.
It reminded him too much of “himself” on the rooftop yesterday—
when he acted all girly, even he couldn’t stand it.
But Ren Jie was just messing around—he loved how entertaining Lu Yu’s reactions were.
“Ohhh, sis-in-law~!” Ren Jie suddenly called out again.
Lu Yu ignored him—until he raised his fist for another swing…
…then froze mid-air as a familiar floral scent drifted into his nose.
He turned his head—and locked eyes with Lin Beixing as she passed by.
Her gaze was oddly tentative. Gone was the sharp, scolding look from this morning.
Lu Yu watched as her delicate, rosy lips parted slightly—
“Lu…” she began softly.
“Ahh—cough! COUGH!!”
The shorter girl beside her suddenly burst into exaggerated coughing.
Lu Yu recognized her—Lan Xi, Lin Beixing’s best friend.
Yesterday, she’d even clung to Lu Yu outside the school gate, demanding gossip about “Lu Yu” (who was actually Lin Beixing in his body at the time).
She was probably just as invested in their “relationship” as Ren Jie was.
Honestly, those two would make a surprisingly good match—both overly enthusiastic about pushing Lu Yu and Lin Beixing together.
“Ahem! So… you’re Lu Yu, right?” Lan Xi cut in, pulling Lin Beixing forward by the arm.
Lu Yu raised an eyebrow. “Yeah.”
“Well,” Lan Xi said, giving Lin Beixing a little shove, “the cafeteria was packed earlier, and Beixing didn’t get to eat. Since you’re classmates, why don’t you take her to grab something? I’ve gotta get back to class to study.”
The moment she finished speaking, Lin Beixing shot her a sharp glare—then immediately looked up at Lu Yu like a startled rabbit, cheeks flushing.
Lu Yu studied her for a moment, then simply nodded.
“Alright.”
“Go on already, dummy,” Lan Xi whispered, nudging Lin Beixing’s waist.
Lin Beixing hesitated. This felt too sudden.
Yesterday, they’d eaten together only because they’d swapped bodies—it was out of necessity.
But today? She had no excuse.
And everyone in school knew what it meant when two students of opposite genders went to the cafeteria together.
It basically screamed “couple.”
“Uh, hey, bro Lu,” Ren Jie chimed in, suddenly backing away, “I just remembered—I’ve got a ranked game waiting! I’ll just—”
Before he could escape, Lu Yu grabbed him by the collar.
“You’re coming with me to eat.”
“What?! Why?!” Ren Jie cried, utterly confused.
He was giving them space! Why wasn’t Lu Yu appreciating his thoughtfulness?!
