Chapter 18 Chapter 18 – Moving Out of the Dorm

Dec 10, 2025 1,276 words

Nanhu College didn’t strictly manage off-campus vehicles. Except during special periods, on normal days, outside cars only needed a simple registration to enter. It didn’t take long, and once it was done, Jiang Zixuan returned to the car.

This time, he didn’t look for a parking lot. Instead, he drove directly to the entrance of the West District dormitories.

There were still many cars parked along this road. Dusk was falling, and not many students were lingering around, so the arrival of this BMW didn’t attract any attention. After the two got out of the car, Jiang Zixuan escorted Shu Yuxin to the dorm entrance, then stopped.

“Guys probably can’t go into the girls’ dorm now, right? I’ll wait for you here. No need to bring everything—just take a few sets of clothes. You can pick up the rest later when you have time.”

“Okay.” Shu Yuxin nodded and went inside.

She actually wanted to say that it wasn’t a big deal for guys to enter the girls’ dorm. After all, just last night Cheng Xiaonan had brought a guy into their room. But after thinking about it, she dropped the idea.

Indeed, in her eyes, it still felt strange for a boy to freely walk into the girls’ dorm.

At this time, the only person in the room was Peng Xiaoxiao—exactly as Shu Yuxin expected. Peng Xiaoxiao was still playing her racing game. At the moment Shu Yuxin closed the door behind her, she saw Peng Xiaoxiao drift and crash into a wall in the game.

Seeing her return, Peng Xiaoxiao paused the game. She put down the controller, grabbed a bottle of “fat-boy happy tea” from the desk, and sucked the last bit through the straw. The empty bottle made gurgling sounds as she drank.

“Mmm… Why are you back so late? Went on a date?”

“Of course not. Where would I get a girl… a boyfriend?” Shu Yuxin answered casually. Seeing Peng Xiaoxiao’s mischievous grin, she couldn’t help but laugh too. “I’m moving out tonight.”

“Moving out?” Peng Xiaoxiao blinked, then suddenly understood. “You rented a place off campus?”

“Something like that. A shared rental.” Shu Yuxin took out her suitcase and began packing clothes.

Watching her for a moment, Peng Xiaoxiao sighed softly. “Lucky you. I also want to move out…”

“Then just move out. I heard there are tons of empty units in WeiAiers.”

“No money.”

“…”

After a brief silence, Peng Xiaoxiao slid her gaming chair over next to Shu Yuxin. “Hey, you’re sharing a place with someone? Any extra rooms?”

“No. Just a two-bedroom apartment with a friend.”

“Oh.” Peng Xiaoxiao sat cross-legged in her chair, lifted her little face and asked, “Is that friend a guy or a girl?”

After hesitating for a few seconds, Shu Yuxin answered truthfully, “A guy.”

“Knew it!” Peng Xiaoxiao exclaimed as if she’d discovered something huge. “It must be that handsome guy who dropped you off on the first day of school! And you said you were just friends!”

“…We really are just normal friends. We just get along well.” Shu Yuxin honestly didn’t know how to explain.

Peng Xiaoxiao didn’t expect her to explain anyway. From her perspective, those two were definitely a couple. “Hehe, then I wish you two a happy co-living life!”

“Whatever, think what you want.” Shu Yuxin gave up trying to argue. “Oh right, do you know if Nanhu College does dorm inspections? I didn’t tell anyone I was moving out.”

Peng Xiaoxiao shook her head. “Don’t worry. Before I came to the school, I asked seniors on the forum. They all said the school usually doesn’t inspect freshmen dorms.”

“That’s good.” After saying that, Shu Yuxin finished packing. She zipped up her suitcase and went to the balcony.

The weather today wasn’t great. The sun had only come out for a short while, and the dorm building didn’t get good sunlight, so the sheets and thin blankets they had dried in the afternoon still felt a bit damp. After touching them for a bit, Shu Yuxin decided not to take them down. She had a spare set anyway, enough to get by tonight.

Seeing Shu Yuxin about to leave, Peng Xiaoxiao looked a little down. “Yuxin… you won’t come back anymore, will you?”

In this dorm, the only person she could really talk to was Shu Yuxin. Once she left, Peng Xiaoxiao would basically be alone.

Noticing her expression, Shu Yuxin hesitated, then shook her head lightly. “I’ll probably still come back sometimes. I paid for a whole year of dorm fees—if I don’t stay at least a month, wouldn’t that be a huge loss?”

Peng Xiaoxiao immediately burst out laughing. “Hahaha, okay! I’ll help keep your bed clean. Don’t worry about it.”

“Thanks.” Shu Yuxin took one step out of the room but suddenly remembered something. She parked her suitcase by the door, quickly climbed onto her bed, and a few seconds later hopped down lightly with a small spray bottle in hand.

She shook it and handed it to Peng Xiaoxiao. “Here, this pepper spray is for you. If Cheng Xiaonan brings guys to the dorm again, you at least have something to protect yourself.”

Peng Xiaoxiao froze for a moment but still accepted it. “Um… how much was it? I’ll transfer you the money.”

“It’s just a gift between friends. Don’t worry about it.” Shu Yuxin waved dismissively, grabbed her suitcase, and left the dorm. “Bye-bye~!”

Peng Xiaoxiao held the pepper spray and stared at the closed door for a whole minute.

Then she suddenly smiled softly. “Thank you…”

Her smile was beautiful—but the person who should’ve seen it was already far away.

Outside the dorm building, Jiang Zixuan was squatting by the flower bed near the entrance, playing on his phone.

Shu Yuxin immediately spotted him. She raised her hand and waved. “Zixuan, let’s go!”

Jiang Zixuan looked up, put his phone away, and stood to meet her. “Got everything packed?”

“Of course. What else did you think was in my suitcase?”

“I was just asking…”

They didn’t stay at school any longer and went straight back to WeiAiers. After parking in the underground garage, Jiang Zixuan unbuckled his seatbelt. “Let’s take your suitcase up first, then go buy groceries. The fridge at home is completely empty.”

“Groceries? From that department store?” Shu Yuxin asked as she unbuckled her belt.

“Yeah. I checked it before—pretty good selection. There’s also a market outside WeiAiers, but I doubt anyone’s there now.”

“Of course not. Have you ever seen a market open at night?” Shu Yuxin gave him a sideways look and stepped out of the car. “How about this—you take my suitcase upstairs, and I’ll go buy the groceries. Saves us from running up and down.”

Jiang Zixuan paused. “You’ll go alone?”

“What? It’s not like I don’t know how to shop.”

“…Alright. I’ll wait at home. Call me if anything happens.”

“Yeah yeah, I know!” Shu Yuxin waved him off casually and left the underground lot.
