Chapter 28 Chapter 28: Best Bros

Jan 12, 2026 1,343 words

In the end, Yan Zhikai couldn’t stand it anymore. He walked over and positioned himself between the two of them, resting a hand on each of their shoulders, smiling with exaggerated friendliness. “What are you guys talking about? Come on, let me take a look too.”

The fat guy called Old Mei chuckled and turned around, clearly planning to share something good with his buddy. “It’s that confession wall goddess ranking that just got posted a few days ago. This batch of freshmen girls is seriously—”

Then his phone clattered to the floor. “Ah—holy shit!!”

The skinny guy also spun his chair around, and when he saw Shu Yuxin, he froze as well.

Shu Yuxin forced a smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes and greeted him, “Hello.”

“Good-looking, right? Pretty, right? Stunned, aren’t you?” Yan Zhikai took a step back to stand beside the two girls and raised a hand to point at them. “Come on, let me introduce you. These are our prospective members—Shu Yuxin and Peng Xiaoxiao.”

The expression on Old Mei’s face shifted a couple of times, and suddenly he slid down onto one knee right in front of Shu Yuxin. “Miss, I’m sorry! My fault!”

Shu Yuxin was startled and instinctively took half a step back.

Honestly, this kind of thing didn’t really bother her, and she hadn’t expected such a big reaction from him.

Yan Zhikai’s gaze flicked between the two of them, then he said to Shu Yuxin, “This guy just can’t control his mouth—spouts nonsense all day. But he’s actually a decent person. You know what they say, a man’s knees are worth gold. He’s already given you half his gold, so let’s just let this slide, alright?”

“I’m not blaming him…” Shu Yuxin said, forcing a smile as she waved her hand.

Since the way out had been provided, Old Mei didn’t need to keep kneeling. He grabbed a nearby gaming chair and pulled himself back up, smiling apologetically. “Thanks, miss. Um, so you’re new members, right? From Nanhai College? Want me to go buy you a bottle of water?”

“No, no! Thank you!” Shu Yuxin felt a bit overwhelmed by the attention.

The changes to her own body were gradually becoming apparent in how they affected her social interactions. In the past, Shu Yuxin had been very ordinary—both in looks and personality, the kind who would disappear into a crowd without anyone noticing. Because of that, no matter what circle she entered, she never drew much attention at first and had enough time to slowly get to know people. Now, setting aside her personality, just her appearance alone made it impossible for her to remain unnoticed. Entering a new group and becoming the center of attention before she even knew anyone made her feel very uncomfortable.

Yan Zhikai seemed to notice the awkwardness on her face. He scratched his head and naturally changed the subject. “Alright, they haven’t decided to join our club yet. I just brought them over to take a look at our activity room. You guys go do your thing.”

Old Mei nodded, picked up his phone from the floor, and left with the skinny guy toward another room nearby.

Seeing Peng Xiaoxiao and Shu Yuxin looking curiously in that direction, Yan Zhikai explained, “That’s the club’s lounge. There are vending machines and stuff. Sometimes if you don’t feel like gaming or think it’s too noisy in here, you can go rest in that room.”

“There’s even a lounge… How big is your activity room, exactly?” Peng Xiaoxiao asked in surprise.

“Compared to other clubs at Minghai University, ours is actually considered small,” Yan Zhikai said, then suddenly spread his hands. “But compared to our school’s activity building, this place is who knows how many times bigger. Can’t help it—Minghai University is rich. And when you’re rich, you can do whatever you want.”

Shu Yuxin finally couldn’t hold back and laughed.

The way this big guy talked really came with its own built-in comedic effect.

Yan Zhikai didn’t quite understand why she was laughing, but he figured that if a girl was laughing, it was definitely a good thing. He put the bottle of Yibao he’d been holding onto a nearby computer desk and said, “Come on, I’ll show you some other—”

Before he could finish, the door to the activity room opened again, and two more people walked in. Both were over 1.8 meters tall, and when Shu Yuxin turned to look, she instinctively had to tilt her head up.

One of them was Jiang Zixuan. The other guy was about the same height but had a slimmer build and wasn’t as handsome. Perhaps because they’d just come in from outside, there was still a sheen of sweat on their faces. The guy in front smiled when he saw Yan Zhikai. “Idiot Kai, these are the new members you dragged over?”

“Huh?” Yan Zhikai froze. “Did I ever tell you I dragged people over?”

“You didn’t. He did,” the guy said, pointing at Jiang Zixuan behind him. “He said you tricked a freshman girl from Nanhai College into coming over…” Only then did his gaze shift to the two girls beside him. “Hey, you even tricked two?”

“Why are you always talking nonsense? What do you mean ‘tricked’? I brought them over to have a look, okay?” Yan Zhikai sized up Jiang Zixuan with a slight frown. “And who’s this?”

Peng Xiaoxiao stared at Jiang Zixuan for two seconds, then turned to Shu Yuxin, about to speak—only for Shu Yuxin to speak first. “He’s my friend. I asked him to come take a look.”

Jiang Zixuan raised a hand and waved at Yan Zhikai, greeting him with a smile. “Hello, my name is Jiang Zixuan.”

“He’s our Minghai University military-uniform heartthrob,” the other guy joked. “No idea how many fangirls he has now.” Then he gave the two girls a brief introduction. “I’m Zhang Houlin, the head of the E-sports Club here at Minghai University.”

Before the girls could respond, Yan Zhikai smugly added, “Military-uniform heartthrob? Hah. If I’d been able to slim down back then, I’d have been a military-uniform heartthrob raking in fangirls too.”

“First you’d have to slim down. I didn’t see you in the gym last night.”

“I was fucking preparing for make-up exams, okay? I failed three courses—want to take them for me?” Yan Zhikai leaned sideways to look at Zhang Houlin, acting like a street thug.

Jiang Zixuan walked over to the two girls and chuckled quietly. “Do you think we’re being ignored?”

“That’s just how best bros interact,” Peng Xiaoxiao said, her eyes sparkling with excitement. “The only question is—who’s the top and who’s the bottom…”

Jiang Zixuan glanced sideways at Shu Yuxin. “You thinking of joining this club?”

“I’m considering it. It seems pretty interesting,” Shu Yuxin nodded.

As they finished speaking, the bickering between the two best bros also came to an end. Yan Zhikai picked up the Yibao on the desk, took a sip, and wiped his mouth with his hand. “I don’t feel like arguing with you. I still have to show them around the activity room.”

With that, without caring about Zhang Houlin’s reaction, he turned and headed straight in one direction. “Come on, I’ll show you something fun.”

Zhang Houlin smiled helplessly and waved at the three of them. “Feel free to look around. You’re welcome to join our E-sports Club.”
