Chapter 29: The Battle Should Indeed End.
"Chief Oleg, look over there! Why have so many robots suddenly appeared?!"
The members of Wildfire were all startled when they saw the steel tide approaching from the distance. However, Oleg just smiled and patted someone's shoulder, saying, "Don't worry. Svarog must be here to pick up that little girl from his family and take her home. He's never been interested in the commotions we people in the Underworld stir up."
This sounded reasonable, but the closer those robots got, the more something felt off. Until the humanoid robot at the very front leaped high into the air, precisely landing between Kevin and Clara.
"Humans affiliated with Wildfire, leave this area. Otherwise, you will also be designated as suppression targets."
As soon as the words fell, Svarog gave no one any time to react. His massive iron fist swung down fiercely towards Kevin—
BOOM!!!
The hard ground was smashed into a crater half a meter in diameter, but Kevin, who was supposed to be the target of the attack, was now standing a meter away.
"Target speed too high to capture. Threat level continuously rising. Unlocking destructive firepower armaments..."
The single eye in the center of his head continuously emitted an extremely dangerous red light. From that cold mechanical voice, anyone present could probably tell how dire the situation had become.
"Wait, Mr. Svarog, what's going on? This gentleman just saved me, he..."
"Step back, Clara." Svarog unceremoniously pushed Clara, who was trying to step forward to explain, behind him. At the same time, he kept his gaze fixed on Kevin and explained, "The system has identified the target as a non-human entity with an extremely high threat level. His existence will severely impact the continued survival of the Underworld."
As a robot that relies on arithmetic logic for judgment and action, Svarog would never question the judgment provided by his system. Even if the optimal result for protecting the Underworld meant completely eliminating humanity's excessive capacity for resistance.
"Hey! Since when does the Underworld need you to worry about it? Kevin has been here for less than a day, but he's already done more than you, you pile of scrap metal!"
Given Seele's fiery temper, she wouldn't indulge Svarog. If he attacked right off the bat, why should they bother reasoning with him?
Even if they were going to reason, it would be after they'd dismantled this pile of scrap metal!
"Final warning issued. Seele of Wildfire affiliation. If you do not retreat, you will also be included in the elimination targets."
Clearly, as a robot that thinks purely through logic and arithmetic, Svarog had no intention of negotiating terms with them. With one hand protecting Clara behind him, his other hand was already aimed at Seele blocking the way.
Before Seele could utter any more threats, immense energy had already gathered in Svarog's hand. In the next moment, a dazzling beam of light poured forth.
BOOM—!
No matter how fast a human is, they can't outrun a laser... Of course, Kevin is an exception.
Just like Svarog protecting Clara behind him, Kevin also stood in front of Seele. The laser beam capable of obliterating most of a large rock was casually blocked by him simply extending a palm.
"This is why I dislike certain artificial intelligences. Their chips simply won't listen to any reason."
While Kevin was quietly lamenting this, Svarog had already entrusted Clara behind him to robots that had arrived from the rear for safekeeping. He himself focused all his attention on Kevin.
"Mission execution. Annihilation operation commencing."
As the mechanical voice fell, several thick cannon barrels extended from various parts of Svarog's body, all without exception aimed at Kevin not far away.
In the next second, dozens of shells poured forth mercilessly, trailing lines of fire across the sky straight towards Kevin's vicinity.
Perhaps even aware that his opponent wouldn't be easy to deal with, Svarog simultaneously ordered several tall humanoid robots beside him to charge forward as well, brandishing their weapons to surround their target.
Faced with such an assault, Kevin remained unflustered, standing calmly in place, quietly waiting for those shells to speed towards him and explode.
BOOM————!
Accompanied by deafening explosions, what finally appeared before everyone's eyes wasn't towering flames with violent shockwaves, but... an entire expanse of crystal-clear frost?!
Those dozens of high-yield weapons capable of easily demolishing buildings seemed to have all turned into duds. Not only did Kevin not retreat as he emerged from the patches of frost, he instead stepped forward towards those mechanical soldiers charging at him.
The armed robot at the forefront reached Kevin first. The steel blade held high in its hands tore through the air with the aid of thrusters, swinging down with astonishing speed and power—
BANG—!
This strike that should have easily sliced through steel was casually dodged by Kevin with a slight sidestep. Before it could raise its weapon again, Kevin had already leaped high and delivered a powerful kick squarely to its chest.
This machine weighing several tons was now sent flying backwards in a bizarre manner under the force of gravity. Even the machines following behind it were caught up in the misfortune. After being dragged several meters, they crashed heavily onto the ground.
These heavy-duty machines sprawled there struggled a few times but ultimately failed amidst dull sounds of gear collisions and electric arcs.
"With this level of armed force, it should be barely sufficient to clear out the Fragmentum in the Underworld, right?"
To avoid actually damaging these armed machines, Kevin deliberately held back most of his strength. Otherwise, their fate would likely be similar to those Fragmentum creatures from before—nothing left but ice shards.
"Encirclement and suppression plan ineffective. Commencing saturation bombardment."
As Svarog's voice fell again this time, not only did he himself unleash fierce firepower, but many other machines beside him also revealed menacing cannon barrels, aiming at Kevin and beginning to pour firepower without restraint.
BOOM—! BOOM—! BOOM—!
Waves of flames accompanied by violent explosions continuously erupted. Standing at the very center of the explosions, Kevin only had the corner of his clothes slightly ruffled by the intense shockwaves.
With an expression still calm and composed, Kevin raised his palm and swept it down. The fiercely burning flames were instantly split open by the gusting wind and frost he summoned. But what came into view was Svarog, who had appeared before him at some unknown time, and an ever-enlarging iron fist that seemed capable of smashing everything.
"The battle should indeed end."
BOOM!!!
