Chapter 39 Chapter 39: Give Him a Taste of His Own Medicine! Part 4
The next day was packed with classes. Xu Yecheng was busy from morning until night. His university had two campuses far apart from each other. He was based at the old campus, while all the faculty dormitories were located at the new one. Because of this, his 8 a.m. class had been rescheduled to 8:30 a.m.—what he called his “early eight” actually started half an hour later.
That extra thirty minutes did give him some breathing room in the morning, but it also cut into his lunch break. With classes ending at noon and the next one starting at 1 p.m., he barely had time to grab a bite—let alone return to his dorm to charge his phone.
Still, being fully occupied helped push his lingering unease out of his mind.
Over the weekend, he’d stayed in his dorm doing nothing—just lying around, drifting through the days in a daze. Before he knew it, Monday had arrived.
He had morning classes and was scheduled to work in the afternoon. He hadn’t even had time to eat yet, so he rushed back to his dorm to gather his things. He needed to get everything ready before Zheng Wenxuan and the others came back—it would be awkward if they caught him in the middle of preparing.
Just like before, he stuffed his clothes into a bag and headed toward the science building.
*These clothes have already been worn once…*
*Guess I really need to buy a few more sets for changes. If things go well, I’ll probably be staying at this shop for a while…*
*After all, the pay really is too generous!* Xu Yecheng thought to himself, planning to pick up some fresh undergarments and maybe a change of clothes after work that afternoon.
*What a hassle…*
Lost in thought, he slowly climbed to the rooftop of the science building. It was lunchtime, so the building was nearly empty.
He put on the mask. That familiar sensation returned instantly. It had been several days since he’d last assumed this appearance. The added weight on his chest made him feel oddly uneasy.
*So… it’s time to get back to work, huh…?*
With a resigned sigh, he finished changing, then pulled out his phone to use as a mirror for a final check. Everything looked ready.
He shoved his regular clothes and shoes into his backpack, slipped out through the restroom door, and headed toward the sports field.
First, he stopped by the cafeteria. The food at the school canteen was cheap—and notably better than anything you could get outside for the same price. But with so many people around, she couldn’t help feeling nervous.
She stood at the end of the queue. The strange emptiness between her legs, the stray strands of hair occasionally brushing against her cheeks—it all sent a ticklish sensation through her.
*Surely no one can tell it’s actually me… right?*
The unfamiliar tightness pressing against her chest made it hard to breathe.
After getting her tray, she turned to look for a seat. The dining hall was packed during peak hours, and nearly every table was occupied. As she scanned the room, her eyes suddenly landed on He Xiaohan and his two friends sitting together. For a split second, her face lit up with pleasant surprise—but just as she took two steps toward them, she abruptly froze.
*Oh no—I’m in “girl mode” right now!*
Her expression instantly turned awkward. She quickly turned away, scanning elsewhere for a seat.
“Hey, wanna sit with us?” a girl’s voice suddenly called out beside her.
Xu Yecheng turned and saw a four-person table with two girls already seated. The one wearing glasses patted the empty spot next to her and said, “Go ahead—it’s free.”
Xu Yecheng hesitated, feeling conflicted.
*Should I really sit with strangers…?*
*Wait, duh—they think I’m a girl. Of course they’d invite me to sit with them.*
Realizing there really wasn’t anywhere else to go, and not wanting to be rude, she shyly took the seat.
“Thanks,” she murmured softly, picking up her chopsticks to start eating.
“No problem!” the bespectacled girl replied, then turned back to her friend across the table and resumed their chat.
Xu Yecheng internally scolded herself: *Stay calm… act refined… small bites… chew slowly…*
She’d never been this “ladylike” before—but she was terrified of giving herself away.
As she ate, she realized she was already full—even though she’d barely finished half her rice bowl.
*Has my appetite gotten smaller since… becoming like this?*
She forced herself to eat a bit more—after all, wasting food meant wasting money. Only when she absolutely couldn’t manage another bite did she reluctantly throw away the leftovers.
*Still feels like a waste…* she thought with a pang of regret.
*Oh, right—I should probably get a handbag too. Carrying everything in my hands while wearing a skirt is seriously inconvenient.*
When she arrived at the café later, she slipped quietly into the office as she had the last time.
She knocked on the door and heard the manager say, “Come in!”
Pushing the door open, Xu Yecheng froze at the sight inside.
The manager’s face immediately brightened. “Ah! Xiao Ning’s here!”
A girl standing near the door let out a sudden, “Whoa!”
Xu Yecheng forced a stiff smile—inside, he was panicking.
The girl was slightly shorter than him, with a cute bun hairstyle and two strands of hair framing her face. Her clear, bright eyes made her look like a porcelain doll.
She hurried over. “Is it really you, Xiao Ning?”
Xu Yecheng blinked in surprise, then stammered, “Y-yeah… it’s me…”
“Wow! You’re even cuter in person! The manager wasn’t lying at all!” The girl squealed, leaving Xu Yecheng flustered.
The manager chuckled. “Alright, alright, Yuwei—don’t scare Xiao Ning like that.”
The girl—Dou Yuwei—suddenly realized her mistake and quickly introduced herself. “Oops! Sorry—I’m Dou Yuwei, but you can just call me Doudou!”
“Uh… I’m Xu… Ye—ahem! Xu Wan’ning,” Xu Yecheng nearly slipped and said his real name, catching himself just in time. His face turned slightly red from embarrassment.
Dou Yuwei nodded cheerfully. “Engineering-school beauty—how could anyone not fall for you?”
She grabbed Xu Yecheng’s hands. Flustered, Xu Yecheng stared at their joined hands, cheeks flushing even more.
Noticing the blush, Dou Yuwei’s eyes sparkled mischievously. “Oho? You’re blushing!”
“Alright, that’s enough,” the manager interjected firmly. “Go get your uniforms and get to work. I’ve already posted your assigned zones in the group chat—no slacking off during shifts!”
“Of course not!” Dou Yuwei declared earnestly, then hooked her arm through Xu Yecheng’s.
Xu Yecheng stiffened again and turned to see her grinning playfully.
“We’re on the same team—both of us are working on the second floor!”
