Chapter 55 Chapter 55: Self-Indulgent Delusions (2)
Xu Yecheng worked until the end of her shift in a gloomy mood, her mind racking itself over how she could get close to that guy, He Xiaohan.
Damn it—how could He Xiaohan not be interested in such a good-looking girl?
She was even starting to suspect that He Xiaohan had slept around too much and worn himself out, to the point that he wasn’t interested in girls like that anymore.
No matter how she thought about it, Xu Yecheng just couldn’t figure it out.
Was it really her personality problem? Had she not acted enough like a girl?
Xu Yecheng began to doubt herself.
Maybe she really needed to study up on it…
Thinking this, her expression turned troubled again.
Was there actually some kind of tutorial online teaching people how to be a “scumbag girl” or something?
Another wave of dizziness washed over her.
When it was time to get off work, Xu Yecheng tidied up a bit and changed back into her original outfit. Doudou was waiting for her at the changing room door.
Seeing Doudou sending someone a message, Xu Yecheng couldn’t help feeling curious.
“All done? Then hurry up and go pick up the dessert,” Doudou said with a smile.
“Mm,” Xu Yecheng responded, but she still felt vaguely uneasy.
She picked up her phone and saw an event reminder from one of the apps. Her whole body jolted.
Holy shit—she still had a lecture to attend. How the hell did she forget about it?!
She checked the time—there were only a little over ten minutes left. It took ten minutes just to get from here to the school gate, not to mention finding the building where the event was held and climbing up to the right floor…
The key problem was that with so little time, there was absolutely no way for her to change clothes.
Xu Yecheng had forgotten to leave half an hour early.
If she missed the sign-in for the event, not only would she lose the credits, it would also affect her ability to participate in future activities.
The most urgent thing was to get to the lecture hall first, sign in, and then sit through the lecture.
After all, signing in was just scanning a QR code with her phone.
Thinking that, Xu Yecheng turned to Doudou beside her and said apologetically, “Doudou, I have to go first. I’ve got a lecture that’s about to start—I need to rush over to sign in.”
“Ah… I see. Then… then hurry up and go!” Doudou replied blankly, watching Xu Yecheng rush out in a panic.
Only after Xu Yecheng left did Doudou get a headache thinking—had Ningning forgotten to take her clothes with her?
Thinking that, Doudou took Xu Yecheng’s clothes and walked into the manager’s office.
Xu Yecheng jogged anxiously, but her whole body felt weak, unable to muster any strength at all. Waves of intense dizziness kept crashing into her head. This body was far too fragile in this condition, and she had no choice but to slow down.
But at this speed, there was no way she’d make it in time…
Because she didn’t want to be blacklisted, even though she felt awful, Xu Yecheng still forced herself to speed up as much as she could.
The next second, a bicycle stopped in front of her.
Xu Yecheng froze slightly, panting as she lifted her gaze toward the boy. When she saw He Xiaohan’s face, she was stunned.
“Heading back to campus? Want a ride?” He Xiaohan asked in a low voice.
Xu Yecheng couldn’t care about anything else now. All she wanted was to get back to school as fast as possible and make it in time for sign-in.
“Mm, thank you.”
The discomfort in her body made her voice sound weak and flat, lacking the deliberately affected tone from earlier. Her voice became a bit stiff.
He Xiaohan’s expression turned slightly puzzled.
She’d looked fairly interested just now—why did she suddenly seem like she couldn’t be bothered with him?
He Xiaohan found Xu Wanning more interesting than he’d expected.
Feeling her sit down on the back seat of the bike, he asked calmly, “You holding on properly?”
“Mm.” Xu Yecheng tightly gripped the small raised part of the bike seat with both hands, still feeling a little scared.
He Xiaohan pushed down on the pedal, and the bike shot forward.
Why the hell are you riding so fast?!
Xu Yecheng cursed internally. The cool wind brushed against her cheeks, and the faint minty scent from He Xiaohan drifted into her nose. She genuinely couldn’t understand why a grown man would bother making himself smell so nice.
The bike jolted again, startling her. Her hands tightened even more, but soon the bike stopped by the roadside.
Xu Yecheng finally let out a relieved breath and got off the bike. He Xiaohan’s gaze fell on her face, noticing how pale she looked.
“Feeling unwell?” he asked.
Xu Yecheng shook her head and slowly walked toward the school gate, then suddenly snapped back to her senses.
If she swiped her ID at this distance, the screen beside the gate would directly display her personal information.
What should she do…?
Xu Yecheng stood in place, her brain racing.
“Wanning, you dropped something.”
She suddenly heard He Xiaohan call out from behind her. Turning back, she saw that he was standing a little distance away.
Dropped something?
She walked over to him in confusion and suddenly realized that He Xiaohan was actually quite tall.
“You dropped your ID?” He Xiaohan asked.
Xu Yecheng froze slightly, then gave a small “Mm.”
The next moment, warmth spread in her hand. Lowering her head, she saw that He Xiaohan had already placed the ID card into her palm.
“Go on in first,” He Xiaohan said. “You can just drop it off at the cafeteria’s lost-and-found later.”
“Okay,” Xu Yecheng replied. With time pressing, she didn’t have the chance to say anything more. She turned back toward the gate, raised her hand, swiped her ID, and went in.
She had to admit—this guy was pretty smart. Keeping some distance made it less likely for the security guard at the gate to notice him slipping the ID to her.
Although He Xiaohan touching her hand earlier had made her feel somewhat uncomfortable.
It was still kind of useful.
Xu Yecheng glanced at the ID card, then stuffed it into her pocket.
Did He Xiaohan think he was being considerate?
Thinking that, Xu Yecheng couldn’t help feeling a bit smug.
Too bad—if it were another girl, she might’ve found him thoughtful. But Xu Yecheng was different.
And thinking about how this guy would later have to trot all the way to the school’s lost-and-found to retrieve it, Xu Yecheng felt secretly satisfied.
She quickened her pace and finally reached the lecture hall two minutes before sign-in started.
Of course, after frantically climbing four floors and arriving at the hall, she was completely out of breath.
She glanced at the lecturer and discovered it was that bald guy she hated the most.
Sitting in the front row for his class was basically asking to die. Without a second thought, Xu Yecheng walked straight to the very last row, where there was one empty seat, and sat down.
Zheng Wenxuan, seeing a girl suddenly sit down beside him, instantly became a little flustered.
Did she forget she was still wearing a mask?
