Chapter 56 Chapter 56: Self-Indulgent Delusions (3)
Oh my god, what kind of blessing was this? It was the first time a pretty girl had ever sat down beside him. Zheng Wenxuan felt utterly overwhelmed by the favor.
After Xu Yecheng sat down, she still felt dizzy. She let out a long breath of relief—thank goodness she’d made it in time for this event.
She turned her head and, upon seeing Zheng Wenxuan, instinctively smiled. When she noticed the stunned look on his face, it suddenly hit her—she was in her girl form right now.
Holy shit, what do I do?!
Panic instantly rose in Xu Yecheng’s heart.
Her smile stiffened a little, but inspiration struck quickly. She followed up with a question, “No one’s sitting here, right?”
Seeing her smile, Zheng Wenxuan immediately became shy, his speech turning clumsy.
“N–No… no one.”
Xu Yecheng chuckled again, her voice crisp and gentle.
“Okay,” she replied.
Seeing Zheng Wenxuan like this for the first time, Xu Yecheng found it extremely amusing.
He could actually get shy?
Usually he was a greasy old driver with a head full of dirty jokes—how did he suddenly turn into a pure, inexperienced boy in front of a pretty girl?
A pleasant smile rested on Xu Yecheng’s face, and Zheng Wenxuan stared at her in a daze.
Isn’t this that insanely beautiful girl from the forums?!
What kind of insane luck did he have today, to get her sitting right next to him?
Seeing Zheng Wenxuan avert his gaze guiltily, Xu Yecheng’s expression grew even more playful.
“What’s your name?” she asked with a deliberately softened voice and a smile.
“Zheng Wenxuan,” he replied, forcing himself to sound calm.
“Wenxuan—nice name,” Xu Yecheng said sincerely, holding back her laughter as she looked at him.
“Hehe…”
Zheng Wenxuan immediately felt embarrassed. This girl wasn’t just good-looking—she also seemed gentle, and she’d even said his name was nice. He was genuinely moved.
It felt a little unreal. Was this a dream?
He thought to himself.
She’d actually taken the initiative to ask his name—did that mean she wanted to get to know him better?
“What’s your name, miss?” Gathering his courage, Zheng Wenxuan asked.
“Xu Wanning,” Xu Yecheng replied openly.
“That sounds nice!”
Xu Yecheng suddenly didn’t know how to respond.
Thankfully, the bald teacher at the podium announced rhythmically, “Students, we’ll begin signing in now.”
Zheng Wenxuan hurriedly took out his phone, and Xu Yecheng raised hers as well, scanning the QR code on the screen.
After signing in, Xu Yecheng couldn’t help feeling a bit emotional.
Why did chatting with Zheng Wenxuan feel so awkward when she was using this identity?
She seemed to understand now—once Zheng Wenxuan set aside dirty jokes, he basically had nothing substantial to say.
She finally grasped what people meant by “straight guy.”
Xu Yecheng sighed helplessly in her heart.
How are you supposed to find a partner like this? As your “father,” I’m really worried for you.
Another wave of exhaustion washed over her. She shook her head slightly and brushed the hair from in front of her eyes.
Normally it didn’t bother her at all—once she got used to it, she barely noticed things like hair blocking her vision.
But when her body felt unwell, the strands occasionally falling against her face became especially irritating.
Xu Yecheng took a deep breath, then simply laid her head down on the desk. Her head felt fuzzy, and she had no energy to continue talking to Zheng Wenxuan.
“Wake me up if the teacher calls me,” she said weakly to him.
Hearing her hoarse yet soft voice, Zheng Wenxuan’s heart instantly fluttered.
Dear mother… what kind of day is this, exactly?
Could it be that the heavens felt sorry for him for spending too long with just his right hand, and decided to make all his fantasies from yesterday come true?
God, if he could really make Wanning his girlfriend, he’d be willing to take a lifetime of frying-pan beatings.
Zheng Wenxuan felt inexplicably excited.
But at the same time, he thought… maybe he was getting a bit too worked up.
It was probably because he hadn’t chatted with girls in so long—starting off with someone at this ceiling-level made it hard for him to stay calm.
At the very least, though, it proved one thing: he, Zheng Wenxuan, was definitely straight. Finding Xu Yecheng oddly pleasing to look at some time ago must’ve been a mental glitch. What he liked was clearly the kind of pretty girl sitting next to him right now.
Xu Yecheng slept in a daze for a while longer. When she woke up again, class had already ended.
She felt someone nudge her arm. Groggily opening her eyes, she saw Zheng Wenxuan’s face.
“Uh… it’s time to sign out.”
Seeing her half-asleep look, with slightly messy hair sticking to her face and her usually clear eyes now half-open and misty, Zheng Wenxuan froze when she widened her eyes and met his gaze. He quickly looked away, feeling flustered.
Xu Yecheng was confused for a moment, then remembered she’d come for a lecture.
She looked toward the podium and saw that sign-out had already begun.
She scanned the QR code, then stood up from her seat, gently shaking her head.
Seems like… it’s worn off?
Thinking that, she glanced at Zheng Wenxuan again. He stood up from his seat, and when he straightened his body, Xu Yecheng froze.
Holy crap, he’s tall.
She marveled internally, then realized that with her current body, it wasn’t strange for Zheng Wenxuan to seem taller.
“I’ll head off first, then,” she said to him.
She knew perfectly well that this sentence was unnecessary.
But she was curious how Zheng Wenxuan would respond.
“Uh… okay,” he said after a brief pause.
Tch—his voice even got gentler when talking to girls.
Xu Yecheng sighed inwardly.
Leaving the lecture hall, she headed straight for the school’s lost-and-found, tossed the ID card onto the counter, and walked away coolly.
Still, seeing He Xiaohan’s ID photo really made Xu Yecheng feel inferior. She had to admit—being good-looking was a blessing. Unlike her own ID photo, which looked downright ghostly.
At least her original appearance still looked human.
But without an ID, how was He Xiaohan supposed to get into campus?
She thought about it for a moment, then quickly dismissed the idea.
It wasn’t her problem. He could deal with the consequences of his own showing off.
There was one thing, however, that genuinely troubled her.
Why was He Xiaohan not even the slightest bit interested in her like this?
How was she supposed to mess with him now?
Xu Yecheng instantly felt deflated.
Why was this guy so determined to be at odds with her?!
