Chapter 209: A Miracle Cure, Dr. Kevin

"How did it go?"

Skadi's bedside wooden drawer still held a pile of messy needles and thread, with several leftover pieces of black fabric hanging from the edge.

Although making that garment had taken her a full day and night, it wasn't enough to tire out a Deep Sea Hunter.

"......"

Gladiia remained silent.

After snapping out of her joy, she realized Kevin's explanation hadn't been entirely clear, leaving her with a question: who exactly did he mean would come to the medical room in the afternoon?

Was it just her, or did it include her two teammates as well?

She didn't go to Kevin for confirmation; she didn't want to risk leaving a greedy impression... Reading people's intentions was somewhat of a professional habit for Gladiia.

"Kai..."

Knock knock—

Just as she was about to speak, the room door was knocked.

"I'll get it."

Skadi stood up and walked towards the door.

Weapons were placed within easy reach; even in the stable central city, the Hunters were always prepared for battle.

They would never entrust the initiative over life and death to others.

Creak—

The door opened, revealing FrostNova standing outside, sweat still beading on her forehead.

"FrostNova? What's the matter?"

Skadi and FrostNova weren't particularly close, even though they were both colleagues at Rhodes Island.

But given Skadi's previous personality, she hardly had deep connections with any other operators.

"The teacher asked me to tell you that if you don't mind, you can bring Miss Specter along this afternoon. You too, Skadi."

Her face showed deep exhaustion; FrostNova was still aching all over.

Facing a sparring partner who could make her go all out, she had unconsciously gotten a bit too carried away.

The waves of fatigue from her body made her just want to find a place to collapse and sleep, not come here to deliver messages.

"Uh... thank you. Would you like to—"

"No, just delivering the message is enough."

Unable to find words to invite her in, Skadi could only watch as the other left.

"What do we need to prepare?"

This was the first time Kal'tsit had participated in surgical treatment as an "assistant."

For her, this was also a completely unfamiliar experience. If anyone from Rhodes Island's Medical Department were here, they'd probably be shocked speechless.

Especially Warfarin; that Bloodfiend probably could never have imagined that the perpetually stern-faced old lynx would have such a day.

Even more unbelievable was that Kal'tsit herself had actively proposed this.

"Not necessary. As for medical instruments, I've already prepared them."

Kevin declined her offer. If those conditions could be solved with ordinary medical instruments, his intervention wouldn't be needed.

"Mhm."

Curiosity—she couldn't remember how long it had been since she last felt this emotion.

But she didn't voice her feelings. The Ancients lacked neither patience nor caution.

Anyway, Kal'tsit had already obtained Kevin's prior permission for the opportunity to observe from the side.

"You won't learn what you want from me here."

He felt it necessary to pour some cold water on the Feline before him; overly high expectations always lead to great disappointment.

"Mhm."

Then that would be her own problem, not anyone else's fault.

Only Kal'tsit herself knew that she actually held no expectations at all; from the very beginning, she was prepared to gain nothing.

After a polite knock, the medical room door opened.

A salty, damp aura surged in; the two inside didn't need to look up to know who had arrived.

Even though Skadi and the others had been away from the ocean for a long time, they still carried that deep-sea scent with them, as if it had taken root on their bodies.

"Mr. Kevin, we're here."

Gladiia hadn't tied up her long hair; her smooth white hair reached her hips, softening her sharpness by two parts and adding one part of delicate beauty and one part of charm.

Skadi held Laurentina's hand. The moment the shark stepped into the medical room, the pungent smell of disinfectant made the poor nun instinctively tense her body.

The inhumane treatment in the laboratory had left an indelible impression on her.

"Good. Who wants to start first?"

Kevin handed the initiative back to them.

"Me." ×2

Skadi and Gladiia spoke almost simultaneously.

Whether the technique was known or unknown, risks always accompanied it. The two exchanged a glance, neither seeing even a hint of retreat in the other's eyes.

"I'm the captain. Listen to me."

Gladiia had no choice but to resort to "pulling rank."

"You're not our team's captain..."

Skadi snorted lightly and turned her head away. Though she muttered under her breath, her body honestly moved aside to make way.

Seeing her compromise, Gladiia stepped before Kevin.

"I leave it to you."

Whether it succeeded or not in the end, she would remember this favor.

"Your symptoms are the mildest."

Kevin gestured. Understanding, she removed the clothing from her shoulders.

Her tender, fair shoulders, the faintly visible straight collarbone, and the astonishingly curved northern hemisphere together composed an aria named "Hormones."

He fell silent for a moment.

His meaning had clearly been for her to lie down, making it easier to calmly receive treatment, but Gladiia had obviously misunderstood something.

Kevin didn't correct her; pointing out the misunderstanding now would only create unnecessary awkwardness.

He reached out his hand. Blue light trickled down like rain, and a simple lantern fell into Kevin's hand.

Having already fully analyzed it, reconstructing one was nothing more than the simplest task for him.

"Creating something from nothing"!

As a technical executive officer, most of Gladiia's cognition was built upon science. This seemingly simple scene before her eyes undoubtedly challenged her long-held beliefs.

Whoosh.

A spark ignited within the lantern, starting as a grain-sized point before gradually growing to the size of an infant's fist.

Wherever the light reached, everyone felt as if they had sunk into a hot spring condensed from sunlight, warmth and peace spontaneously arising in their hearts.

Compared to last time's fervent and overbearing "blazing sun," Gladiia clearly preferred this time's warm and gentle "lantern light."

Of course, if it really were last time's "sun," being this close would likely result in a higher probability of being reduced to ashes.

Pfft!

Gladiia's skin began to undulate beneath the surface, as if something was gathering towards her right shoulder.

Finally, "they" seemed to have found an escape route, rushing en masse towards the area covered by scales.

The scales split open from the inside out, and a stream of deep blue liquid spurted out. Kevin was prepared; a wisp of cold air shot out like a swimming dragon.

Ping!

That was the sound of tiny ice pillars hitting the medical room wall.

The scales on Gladiia's shoulder seemed to have lost their attachment points as well, slowly sliding off.
