Chapter 56: Help Me, Mr. Kevin!

"Are all the procedures done? Did you bring all the documents? Honestly, cheer up a bit."

Fiammetta was encouraging Kevin.

Please don't misunderstand; they were just going to complete the temporary suspension of cooperation procedures. As the Head of Human Resources put it, it was at least a formality to go through the motions and make a record.

They also took the opportunity to handle Fiammetta's resignation procedures.

Coincidentally, both of them had time today, so they came together.

——————

"Mr. Kevin, Miss Pozëmka, that's it then. I hope we'll have another chance to cooperate in the future."

The Human Resources Department now had a new front on Rhodes Island's main ship. Although it couldn't be called luxurious or elegant, at least they no longer had to squeeze into that dilapidated brick and earth hut.

Otherwise, it would have been hard not to doubt Babel's capabilities.

The Head of Human Resources wore a face full of regret but still forced out a slight smile as he spoke.

By the time the two left, it was already noon.

But coincidentally, they ran head-on into Scout, who was in a hurry. He didn't even have time to take off the long rifle on his back as he rushed towards the Doctor's office.

"Mr. Scout."

Fiammetta greeted him politely. Although she often stayed in her room writing, she wasn't the type of shut-in who never stepped outside.

So she was somewhat familiar with these elite operators. Everyone's attitude was quite friendly, especially the more enthusiastic Ansel, with whom she could chat quite well.

Kevin also nodded to Scout as a greeting.

"Oh, it's Kevin and Fiammetta. Sorry, it's a bit urgent. Let's talk later..."

Scout was in a hurry. After responding, he ran off and disappeared.

"What's going on with Mr. Scout?"

"Probably a mission. Let's go."

——————

In the Doctor's office, a heavy atmosphere hung over everything.

"Is the information confirmed?"

"Dr. Kal'tsit, this is the result after the reconnaissance team verified it three times repeatedly."

Scout seemed very certain as he answered her question.

"It seems Theresis..."

"No, it's not that simple."

Whenever it came to such times, the Doctor casually placed the report back on the desk, crossing her hands and resting her chin on them.

From this enemy intelligence reconnaissance, she only sensed two words: suspicious...

It wasn't that the Doctor couldn't understand Theresis's urgent mood; it was just that this man was definitely no fool.

"So?"

"It's just my speculation..."

The Doctor lightly tapped the table. Her face hidden beneath the hood and mask was unclear, but those bright eyes faintly visible through the goggles seemed to glimpse the truth buried beneath this unusual troop movement.

"...Is it for Kevin?"

She murmured silently, not voicing this speculation to everyone.

"Anyway, let's prepare our defenses first."

——————

The flames of war were reignited once again! Kazdel, which had finally quieted down under some strange tacit understanding, began to grow "noisy" again.

Fortunately, this land had never ceased its conflicts, and this was especially true for the Sarkaz.

Contrary to their usual behavior, the Military Committee threw the entire Fifth Corps into the battlefield right from the start of the war. Other corps also showed signs of shifting their positions.

It seemed as if they hoped to settle things with Babel in a short time.

Jungles, plains, mountains, valleys—every strategic location became a chip or piece fiercely contested by both sides.

"Meat grinder." No one cared about the intensity of this war anymore. The Sarkaz brandished their swords and blades.

Slaughter? Or be slaughtered? The relationship between the two could reverse in an instant.

But on the other side, in a certain room on Rhodes Island's main ship, there was an atmosphere completely different from that of all Kazdel—a feeling of peace and tranquility.

"Should I take this?"

Kevin carried over Fiammetta's original manuscripts from Babel's Propaganda Department. There weren't many; they only filled one cardboard box.

"I almost forgot. Can I take them?"

She asked expectantly. After all, they were works she had personally written bit by bit; their commemorative value far exceeded their practical worth.

"Of course you can."

Kevin nodded. The trunk wasn't lacking in space to load these miscellaneous items.

After a while,

"All packed up."

Fiammetta slung a specially made backpack from the Engineering Department over her shoulder and also held her manuscript box in her arms.

Although it was a bit heavy, it was far from being too heavy to carry; it was within her capacity.

Although she didn't like to push herself too hard, she disliked even more bothering Kevin with things she could manage herself.

"Then let's go."

A week passed quickly. Kevin didn't show any signs of changing his mind.

He just silently called Fiammetta along.

"Ah! Okay. By the way, Kevin, are we just leaving like this?"

"Didn't Ansel and the others hold a farewell party for us a few days ago?"

This wasn't leaving without saying goodbye. Kevin looked at Fiammetta.

She had attended the farewell party the night before last; W had called her there. Although that kid didn't shed tears after getting drunk, she hugged a wine bottle and squatted in a corner silently sulking.

Ansel even took a photo of W's condition at that time with a camera, saying he didn't know when it might come in handy...

"That's true too. Then let's go."

Soon after, a vehicle drove out from Rhodes Island's ground-level track and headed into the wilderness.

——————

"Ancient ones, hear our prayers; we beseech you to bestow calamity."

Gray-white Originium Arts tore across the sky like ancient beings proclaiming prophecies of doom.

As one of the Ten Royal Courts, the Vampires naturally wouldn't show weakness either. Blood-soaked battlefields were their favorite breeding grounds; there were far too many "materials" here for them to utilize.

An endless stream of Vampire creations helped them block the Banshees' Arts or assault the battle lines.

Beneath all this, ordinary Sarkaz were undoubtedly the cheapest consumables in this war.

...

Pfft~ "So, Kevin, you still drove back after all?"

Fiammetta couldn't hide her laughter; her picturesque beautiful eyes narrowed into lines as she smiled.

Honestly, an unstraightforward man is quite cute too~

"No. I just remembered a possibility."

Kevin opened the car door, not appearing flustered because of Pozëmka's words.

"They came for me?"

Stepping onto solid ground, his sky-blue eyes seemed to pierce through the fog, directly pointing at the true strategic intent Theresis was trying to conceal.

"Yes."

If this was the answer,

then all the threads became clear: why Theresis launched an attack so urgently and so recklessly, almost as if he wanted to deliberately attract someone's attention...

If this speculation was correct... Kevin narrowed his eyes slightly.

"It seems I need to go deal with some matters that arose because of me."

"Kevin, what if you guessed wrong?"

"..."

"Then consider it helping them one last time."
