Chapter 94: Grand Entrance

With a buzzing sound of electricity, the lights in the entire recreation room were instantly switched off, plunging the enclosed space into complete darkness.
This sudden change made everyone's expressions turn serious.
"Power system malfunction?"
"I'll go find Closure to check."
Just as Folinic was about to go find that black-hearted Bloodfiend to inquire about the situation, a piece of the ceiling ahead suddenly fell down, making a clattering noise.
A beam of white light shone down. A figure clad in a red and black coat descended via rope onto the ground, a pair of military boots landing with a crisp sound.
"Dear audience, welcome to Rhodes Island's evening theater! The real excitement is only just beginning!"
Two signature tufts of red hair, a brilliant smile—who else could it be but W?
However, obscured by the shadows, some people couldn't clearly see her true appearance.
"Folinic, is this an entertainment program you arranged?"
"Huh? What are you thinking? How could that be?"
Folinic does have a unique penchant for certain things, but that doesn't mean she would arrange such a nonsensical farce.
"Hey! You up there! Come down quickly!"
She placed her hands on her hips and urged. This already counted as an "assault," didn't it?
Separated by the darkness and the shadows cast by irregular lighting, she couldn't see clearly who was on the stage, simply assuming it was an operator playing a prank here.
"It seems our audience can't wait for our performance!"
"I'm looking forward to your Sarkaz profanity!"
W completely ignored Folinic's aggressive display. Compared to herself, an expert in such matters, this kind of verbal attack was still too weak.
With a flourish, she lifted her large hat, and one lively bird after another flew out from within. Apart from their varied and messy plumage, they actually looked quite convincing.
Flap flap flap!
The birds flapped their wings, feathers fluttering down as they flew toward the elite operators below the stage.
Frowning, Folinic snatched one out of the air. Although she is a Medic operator, she still has some combat skills. Who would dare call themselves a Rhodes Island Medical Department operator without some ability?
But the feel in her hand was somewhat off—a bit hard and stiff?
She hurriedly parted the bird's feathers and saw fine wires connected to a delicate device, which also had... a countdown?!
"Everyone! Dodge...!"
Instinctively, Folinic threw the bird in her hand toward W while loudly warning those around her.
But it was already too late. At that very moment, the countdown reached zero!
Boom!
The device exploded! There was no flash of light as Folinic had expected, nor any unpleasant smell of gunpowder.
Plastic confetti mixed with feathers fluttered down everywhere. The birds startled by the device flapped their wings, weaving through the air and churning up the colorful wave, creating a quite beautiful sight.
"...open."
Only then did Folinic utter the last word of her warning. Her face stiffened as she caught a mixture of feathers and confetti; some even got caught on her upturned hair ends, making her appearance even more disheveled.
She'd been tricked! She was sure of it! 100% sure! The culprit was that person on the stage!
"It seems our audience isn't satisfied with the program we prepared. But it's okay; the real [performance] is only just beginning."
With a playful tone, she pulled out a Guardian firearm and pointed it at the people below the stage.
Using confetti to block vision, then sweeping with a Guardian firearm—so this was the real killing move?
Folinic's pupils contracted. She stretched out a hand, intending to block the gun's muzzle.
Bang!
W pulled the trigger. The expected bullet did not appear; instead, a fresh fragrance filled Folinic's nose and mouth.
A vibrant bouquet slid out from the barrel, its colors bright and eye-catching. The petals even had some dew on them, looking as if freshly picked.
"Oh dear, Dr. Folinic, you didn't really think I would shoot at you all, did you?"
The curve of W's smile grew even more pronounced. It was only then that Folinic truly saw the face of the person before her clearly.
"W!!!"
Even though many years had passed and W's face and figure had changed significantly, Folinic still recognized this annoying individual!
Her furious voice only made W's smile grow more malicious. W casually pushed Folinic aside.
"Please step aside, Ms. Lacking Sense of Distance. I never expected such a wonderful performance to have such an impolite audience."
"But it's okay. As a great performer, I will forgive your offense~"
Pretending to be magnanimous, she took light, brisk steps, breaking into a little run.
"Boss, welcome back!"
The fresh bouquet was placed before him. Even brighter than the flowers was W's big, beaming smile.
Kevin's expression softened slightly.
"Heh, thank you."
Boss Kevin smiled! He really smiled!
Although it was very slight, sharp-eyed W noticed it immediately. Instantly, all the preparations felt worthwhile; a sense of full accomplishment filled W's heart.
She could even make Boss Kevin smile! What couldn't she do then?
Kevin accepted the bouquet.
The party continued. With W's addition, this gathering seemed to become livelier. The drunken bickering between W and Folinic was particularly entertaining to watch.
Finally, it ended amidst laughter and joy.

Ursus, Chernobog, Afternoon.
"Blaze, are you okay?"
"I'm fine, I'm fine. I've really wasted all these years; it's my first time tasting such good wine."
Actually, she hadn't intended to drink too much last night. But that kind of fine wine—she really couldn't resist!
Blaze felt as if the lingering aroma of last night's gin still remained in her mouth. The mellow richness and refreshing crispness—two nearly opposite characteristics—could coexist in the same glass of wine.
Beautiful and wondrous. Moreover, although that wine was intoxicating, even drinking a bit too much didn't cause hangover side effects. On the contrary, she slept incredibly soundly last night and still felt warm all over now.
"No wonder Dr. Folinic said that if I came, I definitely wouldn't be disappointed. This is more than just 'not disappointing'~"
The big cat was very satisfied. She never expected Kevin would be willing to share such an extremely precious fine wine with them. Most importantly—unlimited!!!
Such magnanimity—she, Blaze, acknowledged it!
"It's fine. I'm very happy to see everyone getting along harmoniously with Mr. Kevin."
Amiya said with a smile. Including Dr. Kal'tsit, the Doctor, everyone—even the former Princess Theresa—everyone told her to build a good relationship with Mr. Kevin.
To gain recognition from so many people, Mr. Kevin must be a very worthwhile friend to make.
"Anyway, we're about to enter Chernobog now. Let's stay alert!"
The little rabbit was spirited and bright-eyed; she had come with a mission.
"No problem."
Blaze gave an OK sign while holding her massive chainsaw.
A team of over ten people cautiously entered this silent main urban area of Chernobog.
The same thing was happening at other entrances to the city area.
A transport aircraft hovered high in the air. A white-haired man leaned on his greatsword, watching the movements of each squad and the city that looked like building blocks.
Operation "Brake" officially begins!
