Chapter 35 Kevin

"Kal'tsit, what are you thinking about?"

Theresa's call sounded in Kal'tsit's ear, pulling her out of her thoughts.

"Ah... nothing, really. I was just pondering this person's origins."

Kal'tsit's expression turned slightly serious. Clearly, Kevin's existence had already touched upon a blind spot in her knowledge.

"Let me see, and also... Originium Arts adaptability."

Touch tapped the tip of her pen on the last item of data that needed to be measured.

"If the Originium you're referring to is that kind of black crystal, then this item is unnecessary."

Kevin twirled ice crystals around his fingertip and flicked them towards a small hill in the simulated combat environment. Pitch-black ice pillars erupted from the ground as if taking root and sprouting, forming a massive iceberg in the blink of an eye.

The overflowing chill instantly gave everyone goosebumps.

"The power I rely on is not the same system as yours. Your standards lack universality."

Kevin's azure eyes swept over Touch. She was clearly not very calm—no, it should be said that no one was very calm.

How can one cast spells without using Originium? Is it something like the Wendigo's cannibalistic witchcraft? Or perhaps the thunder techniques of Yan's Celestial Masters?

"Oh? Then how does Mr. Kevin cast his spells?"

Anton asked curiously.

Unsurprisingly, Kevin gave a negative answer.

"Ah hehe... It's fine, I was just asking casually. Please pretend I don't exist."

Anton realized that prying into someone's privacy like this wasn't very appropriate, so she awkwardly chuckled a couple of times to let the matter drop.

"Then... this item will be—"

Touch filled it in as "Deficient," but added a note afterward.

"This operator possesses abilities distinctly different from Originium Arts..."

"Alright, Mr. Kevin, the testing is complete. If it's convenient for you, we may need some of your blood later to test your blood-crystallized Originium density."

She pointed to the medical syringe that had been prepared earlier.

"Blood? That won't be necessary. My blood contains some... dangerous things."

Kevin carefully chose his words. No one knew what severe consequences would occur if the Parvati genes left his body.

The Hundred Beasts of Brahma, bestowed upon this body—the power of the [Karmic Demon] was far too dangerous for them. A single misstep could lead to disaster.

"Dangerous things? Very well, Babel respects the privacy of every operator."

After that, Touch took Kevin through a simple physical examination process: measuring height and weight, observing infection status, and so on...

Before long, Kevin had completed the entire procedure.

"Mr. Kevin, this is the cooperation agreement drafted according to your requirements. Please take a look."

Theresa smiled as she pushed a small paper document in front of Kevin.

"Hmm..."

Kevin quickly scanned through the lines and pages. The content of the document was largely consistent with the opinions he had raised.

A cooperation agreement, meaning a negotiated contract signed under the premise of equal status between both parties.

During his tenure at Babel, Kevin's responsibility would only be to garrison Babel headquarters and ensure its safety.

This point was something he himself had proposed. Even things like personal preferences or transactions were acceptable, but he absolutely could not be involved because of the war itself.

Kevin could deeply recognize the danger represented by his own existence. Ending the civil war would be easy, but what about afterward? The gradually inflating ambitions of the Sarkaz? Taking revenge on various nations?

War would not cease...

As part of the cooperation, Babel would provide Kevin with a certain amount of funds or equivalent resources in exchange. His daily salary and benefits would be twice that of an elite operator.

Of course, Kevin didn't care much about these things. He just needed an opportunity to observe the Doctor.

This agreement was merely a credential for him to stay here.

"Then, Mr. Kevin, please fill in your codename here."

Theresa pointed to a blank space on the agreement.

"Codename?"

"Yes, every Babel operator has their own codename. Of course, if Mr. Kevin wishes to use his real name, that's fine too. Many operators do just that."

Kevin nodded and, without much thought, filled in that blank space with—"Kevin."

"Well then, Operator Kevin, welcome to Babel."

Theresa extended her hand quite ladylike. After a slight hesitation, Kevin gently shook it.

——————

Babel Special Activity Room,

"Hey, Touch, do you think we should hold a welcome party for Mr. Kevin?"

Anton nudged Touch's waist, her eyes seemingly sparkling.

"A welcome party? Why would you suddenly think of that?"

That newly joined Mr. Kevin didn't seem like someone very easy to get along with, she asked curiously.

"Ah, isn't it our tradition? Anyway, after a battle, everyone usually drinks together. Why don't we just expand the scale and combine it with Kevin's welcome party! Wouldn't that kill two birds with one stone?"

The more Anton spoke, the more excited she became. The entire proposal was practically bursting forth!

"You..."

Touch was just about to pour cold water on her companion's enthusiasm when another figure appeared, catching both their attention.

"Well now, seems like you're in a good mood, Anton. And a new colleague? That's truly unexpected news."

A black hat like a cowboy's, with a bright halo floating above it. White hair tied into a neat ponytail. A few fragmented light wings behind her back. The gray-blue Babel uniform gave her a rather dashing and heroic feel.

"Outcast? You're back?"

Seeing the newcomer, Anton's face lit up with joy. Touch beside her also nodded in greeting.

"Yeah, mission accomplished successfully, so of course I'm back. Or what, little Anton, don't you trust my skills?"

Outcast patted the Guardian Gun at her waist. As one of the elite operators, she naturally had her own unique missions as well.

However, due to special circumstances, she returned later than Ace and Scout. But because of this delay, some other things had happened~

"Care to talk about the new colleague situation?"

She asked with a smile. It really made one curious.

"Ah, there's a lot to talk about here. Let me tell you, Outcast, you have no idea..."

Anton vividly recounted everything that happened today, including Kevin's performance and his final confrontation with the three elite operators.

The more Outcast listened, the more surprised she became. She was considered quite experienced and had seen all sorts of storms and waves, but someone like Kevin...

"...So that's why I was thinking, shouldn't we hold a welcome party to celebrate together? Let him experience the local customs and practices of our Babel too."

As Anton spoke, she shook Outcast's arm and asked with a smile:

"What do you think, Outcast?"

"Hmm, it's up to you."

She nodded. She really wanted to meet this new colleague who had overpowered three elite operators.

"I think all this talk about a welcome party is just a pretext. It's probably because she herself is craving something tasty..."

"Touch! You... what are you saying! Am I that kind of person?!"
