Chapter 95: Manual Guidance Combat

"By the way, why did the Doctor ask us to bring these things?"

Blaze pressed the device on her arm curiously. A blue light lit up on the black casing, indicating it was fully activated.

If a real fight broke out, with her Originium Arts, it probably wouldn't take long for it to burn out, right?

Could there be some special purpose?

"The Doctor must have her own considerations. Let's keep moving forward."

Although Amiya didn't understand either, the Doctor had instructed before departure that to prevent any single unit from being damaged, each squad was equipped with three devices. When encountering enemies, they should press the button.

——————

Shadows flickered. The Serpent Scales operated methodically on Chernobog's central control console, even though their ultimate goal was to drive Chernobog to crash into Lungmen.

A collision between cities is dangerous. The self-destruction of giant engines combined with platform collapse would be enough to send most of Chernobog's citizens and this portion of the Black Serpents in the core area straight to hell.

Or perhaps, before Chernobog even got close, it would already be blasted to pieces by Lungmen's city defense artillery matrix, which would undoubtedly provide Ursus with a better excuse.

But regardless of which scenario unfolds, these Serpent Scales in the core area have only one ending: death.

Yet they show no fear of death; the Black Serpent's brainwashing has long been deeply ingrained.

"Rhodes Island has arrived in Chernobog."

"Send squads two through eleven to intercept. Squads one and thirteen are responsible for guarding the core area."

The blue light from the screens couldn't dispel the dark shadows beneath the cloaks. The Amiya didn't seem surprised by Rhodes Island's landing.

At the current speed, Chernobog is still 23 hours away from reaching Lungmen. At the very least, nothing must happen in the core area during this time.

Although far inferior to the Imperial Guards, with the Serpent Scales' strength, delaying this group of people from a shell pharmaceutical company for a day shouldn't be a problem.

"Oh, and when necessary, you can incite and drive civilians to muddy the waters, buying as much time as possible. Everything for Ursus!"

After all, these civilians have little chance of surviving the collision between the two cities anyway. Might as well extract their last bit of value.

"Everything for Ursus!"

The shouts were uniform, a chilling blend of coldness and fanaticism.

——————

"Stay alert to the surroundings. The civilians here haven't fully evacuated yet."

Ace entered the city from Chernobog's southwest. Rhodes Island operators were scattered across various peripheral locations in Chernobog in a wide-net deployment.

This was a perplexing tactic. Even the Serpent Scales lurking and observing in secret found it strange. Logically speaking, shouldn't they rapidly break through toward the core area via two or three main directions in concentrated groups?

It's not like Chernobog is already surrounded. Rhodes Island's manpower shouldn't support them employing such a tactic.

Although they found it very odd, the Serpent Scales were happy to see this situation. Harassing and delaying scattered forces is much simpler than clashing head-on with a large force, and it happens to be right up their alley.

Under a streetlight pole,

a cold glint flashed from a dark corner.

Clang!

The experience and vigilance Ace gained from war served him well. Quick-eyed and swift-handed, his shield blocked a dagger as thin and sharp as a snake's fang. His hammer swept horizontally with a fierce gust of wind.

The assassin leaned back, his waist bending like a snake into an almost impossible arc as the hammer nearly grazed the tip of his nose.

The tip of his shoe split open, revealing a hidden blade within. The sharp edge aimed straight for Ace's neck as the assassin executed an agile high kick.

Poisoned! Catching a glimpse of that eerie green on the blade from the corner of his eye, Ace didn't dare be careless. He twisted his shield and slammed it down with overwhelming force.

Clang!

Failing to land a hit, the assassin agilely rolled several times, escaping Ace's attack range while simultaneously dodging several spells shot toward him.

This assassin wasn't alone. Others in the squad were also attacked. Although not as skilled as the one facing Ace, they still caused significant trouble for the Casters and Medic operators.

The Guard operators' vigilance was at its peak, yet two were still injured. Poisoned blades cut them, and a numbing, sluggish sensation instantly seeped into every inch of their muscles.

The price paid by the Serpent Scales was one member having his abdomen pierced by a spell. Surprisingly, even with some internal organs charred black by the spell, he could still shakily stand up,

attempting to add another wound to other operators.

Ace instinctively pressed the button on the device strapped to his arm. The blue light shifted to a dangerous bright red!

If attacked, press it. That was the Doctor's initial instruction.

——————

High above Chernobog, a display screen on a rotary-wing aircraft lit up. A red dot appeared, and a soft alarm sound awakened the man leaning on his sword.

His trench coat flapped loudly in the high-altitude airflow as he slowly opened his eyes.

Sky-blue pupils sharp as an eagle's first swept across the display screen before locking onto a direction in Chernobog from afar.

A hand clad in tactical gloves extended—almost as if aiming!

......

"Withdraw!"

Seeing their delaying objective achieved, the Serpent Scale who initially fought Ace coldly uttered the command.

They left behind a comrade's corpse, each agilely scaling courtyard walls and building floors. Few Rhodes Island operators possessed such skills and could only watch as the others left... or did they?!

Whoosh!

The air emitted a piercing shriek. A surge of biting cold instantly made it feel like they were in a snowy region, causing Rhodes Island operators' hairs to stand on end!

"Look! What is that?!"

A sharp-eyed Sniper operator inadvertently looked up, his eyes widening instantly as he shouted in disbelief.

Everyone looked in the direction he pointed.

Several thick, pitch-black ice pillars descended like divine punishment, streaking over their heads with terrifying kinetic energy, piercing through and shattering building after building and wall after wall—precisely in the direction the Serpent Scales intended to retreat.

The life-seeking nails of frigid sky closed in. Facing those hurtling pitch-black ice pillars almost three times their width, the faces beneath the Serpent Scales' masks were nearly frozen in stupor.

At that speed, they couldn't dodge! Their instincts as assassins almost instantly delivered that judgment.

Dust and rubble rained down from the sky. No matter how thick or sturdy the walls were, they crumbled like rotten wood before those ice pillars, utterly defenseless.

One by one, black-robed Serpent Scales were crushed into bloody pulp by the thick ice pillars before being carried along and driven into the ground. The earth instantly bloomed with one dark red "delicate flower" after another!

Thus, Serpent Scale Squad Five—wiped out without survivors!

The dust settled.

Tap, tap, tap.

A pebble rolled to Ace's feet. The impact against his military boot pulled him out of thatshocking scene.

Having not participated in a mission with Kevin for too long, memories sealed away ten years ago flooded out as if a dam had burst.

Yes, it had been far too long since he last witnessed such a sight.

Even Ace, who had seen Kevin in combat before, was like this. As for other inexperienced new-generation operators who hadn't seen much of the world—their jaws practically dropped to the ground!

High-altitude strike?!

So Rhodes Island actually had such a devastating weapon?!!

If someone rummaged through the Doctor's trash can, they would find that on the first page of discarded documents under "Combat Plan Name",

it clearly read—Manual Guidance Combat!
