Chapter 61: Huai Tianpei and the Yumen Arena
"Ha!"
A young, strong Feline male sent his opponent off the stage with a single punch. His distinct features, heavily influenced by Ancient bloodlines, made him stand out.
"Good!"
The crowd cheered loudly. Most of those gathered around the Yumen Arena at this late hour were martial artists passionate about this path, with ordinary civilians being a minority.
After all, they all had their own work to do and couldn't just gather here at night to join the excitement.
"Anyone else?"
The man's voice was deep and resonant.
The black "king" character on his tiger-like forehead wrinkled along with his brows, making him appear even more fierce and imposing.
"I'll go."
The martial arts culture in Yumen was strong; how could they tolerate a newcomer from elsewhere acting so arrogantly?
A swordsman stepped onto the stage, but the man still used only his fists, showing no intention of picking up a weapon.
"Hey, who do you think will win?"
"That Xiao Zuo is ranked 36th on the Yumen Arena leaderboard. I'm definitely betting on him."
"This newcomer isn't simple either. Yesterday, he stood there the entire afternoon and walked off on his own in the end."
While the crowd was buzzing with discussion, two figures also made their way into the throng.
"Anyway, you're probably tired of all the talking, right? How about we go up there and spar a bit?"
Ling pointed with her lantern staff, gesturing slightly towards the Yumen Arena.
Yumen in Yan was not like Kazimierz. The Yumen Arena was more a place for martial artists to exchange and spar with each other, not for commercial purposes.
Win, get on the leaderboard!
Lose, step down!
It was that simple. No secret arrangements. If you thought you had the skill, you just stood on the stage, and someone would naturally challenge you.
"I was thinking the same."
Kevin had to admit that sometimes having a bout was far more effective than mere verbal exchange.
Ling led the way in front. Without any visible action from her, the crowded people automatically parted before her. The two of them moved smoothly through the crowd, yet no one noticed anything unusual.
On the stage, the battle between the Feline male and the swordsman was also nearing its end.
But ultimately, the tiger-headed man proved superior. A powerful, heavy punch landed on the swordsman's wrist. Even though the swordsman gritted his teeth and held on without dropping his sword, half his body was now numb and sore.
After enduring another hard blow, he was sent flying off the stage without any suspense.
Another wave of exclamations rose from the crowd, with continuous sounds of praise and admiration.
"Anyone else? Come on!"
Huai Tianpei assessed his own physical condition; he was far from exhausted.
Among all the opponents tonight, only that swordsman just now had required a bit more effort.
The martial artists below exchanged whispers, but no one immediately stepped onto the stage. Clearly, Xiao Zuo's defeat had finally cooled everyone's enthusiasm a bit.
This outsider was definitely not some easy pushover.
"Is there really no one left in all of Yumen?"
Huai Tianpei shouted. After all, he was a martial artist; his temperament wasn't that steady yet.
These words were quite heavy. The area below the stage immediately became restless. Many people were itching to go up and teach this guy on stage a lesson.
Thud! Thud!
Just as a Forte in the crowd was about to step onto the stage, he was startled to find someone already standing on the arena steps.
A trench coat flapped loudly in Yumen's wind and sand. The neat combat uniform was clearly completely different from ordinary Yumen attire.
No, two people. A woman had also stepped up together. She wore a faint smile and clothing that resembled both military uniform and Daoist robes, as if nothing in the world concerned her.
"You step down."
Kevin said to Huai Tianpei. If possible, he hoped the other could end this in a dignified manner.
After all, fighting in the arena so late at night wasn't easy.
"Huh? Are you joking?"
Huai Tianpei frowned. Was the arena a place for jokes?
"If you want to fight, then fight! No need for so much nonsense!"
"Forget it. You go or me?"
Kevin looked at Ling.
She smiled and made a "please" gesture. 六⑨四⑨三⑥一③五
Seeing the two of them actually being polite there, how could Huai Tianpei tolerate it?
"Then it's you!"
He strode forward, his mid-length sleeves billowing with air currents as he threw a powerful, heavy punch.
The fierce fist wind tore through the air, aiming for Kevin's shoulder.
Thump!
The large fist was steadily caught by a pale palm, kicking up a circle of dust.
Kevin pressed down. The terrifying force instantly forced Huai Tianpei to bend forward completely. A foot clad in a black combat boot swept past his eyes.
Thud!
As casually as kicking a bag of garbage, Huai Tianpei's body arched, bending into a shrimp-like shape as he flew out of the arena in a perfect arc.
The entire process didn't even take three seconds. The martial artists below didn't even have time to exclaim before the entire fight was over.
When they reacted, the people below erupted.
"Yan profanity! Are you kidding me?"
"Such a big guy got knocked flying out? How many moves did he use?"
"One move or two? Didn't see clearly..."
Ignoring the arguments below.
"Alright, come on."
Kevin patted non-existent dust off his hands. Having cleared the stage, he extended an invitation to Ling.
"Deal."
Ling nodded. She didn't seem under much pressure; after all, she could have done those moves just now too.
A human body couldn't compare to that of a giant beast. These few moves didn't reveal much at all.
"Within Yumen City, we can't really go all out. How about we just exchange martial skills?"
Ling held her lantern staff—taller than one and a half people—upright in front of her and said with a smile.
Though not as good as her eldest brother, her martial skills should still be considered... decent?
"Fine."
Kevin extended his hand. A greatsword from the weapon rack flew out as if with a will of its own and was caught in his hand.
Just this move alone made the martial artists below exclaim in surprise. Although this world did have Originium Arts, it couldn't beat how cool that looked!
"Then... be careful."
Ling swept away her previously drunken demeanor; her entire person now appeared sharp and keen.
Her white clothes left afterimages as her lantern staff pointed forward.
The greatsword swept out sharply and directly, simply crushing the afterimages and forcing Ling's figure out.
"Hey, are you kidding me?"
Her tail whipped the ground, her waist tightened. Ling completed her evasion in an unbelievable manner and even managed to strike out several palm strikes in the gaps.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
Their movements were dazzling. In the blink of an eye, they had already exchanged several moves. Kevin hadn't retreated an inch, while Ling borrowed force to retreat like a light butterfly.
"Perfect response."
Kevin praised. Among the combat skills accumulated over fifty thousand years, he had truly never encountered an enemy who could use their tail so effectively.
"Good, good, good! Never thought that besides my eldest brother, there would be someone like you."
Ling laughed heartily and took another swig of wine from her gourd.
Although she was a woman, at this moment she appeared heroic and unrestrained. Having stayed in Yumen for nearly a century, she had been somewhat influenced by its military atmosphere and battlefield spirit.
Author's Note on Release
Alright, this book has been smooth sailing all the way until its official release now.
I'm really very grateful for everyone's support and guidance along this journey.
Every single collection, every vote, every bit of support during this time has been motivation for me to keep updating.
With two volumes plus the beginning part of the next volume, this book's progress has generally aligned quite well with my initial outline.
Shuke released at 120k words; my 140k is definitely full value hahaha.
Of course, no novel can satisfy everyone's preferences. If there are any shortcomings, I hope everyone can be understanding.
Although the most common feedback is that my update times are quite... nocturnal hahaha... about this issue indeed...
But no matter how nocturnal they are, at least I haven't missed any updates, right?
It's been exactly one month since I started writing this book. Started on the 2nd; not being able to get full attendance bonuses means I'm destined to be a big fool hhhhh.
For this release, I originally wanted to mention that guy again, but as a reader rightly pointed out in the comments—can't let it turn into online bullying—so I'll let it go this time~
The comments far exceeded my expectations—over six thousand! So five updates tomorrow!
The first update will probably be posted around 10:30 AM tomorrow. I'll quickly write and post the remaining four updates afterward—no nocturnal updates!
The calculation for initial subscriptions is based on the number of subscribers within 24 hours starting from 10 AM Friday~
This data is really important for me as an author. Please!
-)
Even tokens are love! Hope we get good results. Thank you everyone!
Oh right, my editor told me to act cute; said it can effectively increase subscriptions. Hehe.
