Chapter 75: The Beast Manifested in This World

The scenery within the painting trembled on the verge of collapse due to the arrival of the Sui-xiang. Xi's brushstrokes were clearly insufficient to sustain the illusory mountains and rivers under the imposing presence of "Sui."

"This place can't hold it..."

As the painting was about to disintegrate, Xi couldn't help but feel a pang of regret. Drinking had caused trouble!

But who... who could have thought that mere mortal wine would actually possess some peculiar qualities? A momentary lapse of attention had released this behemoth.

At the very least, she had to protect the person behind her. With the cyan-red greatsword in hand, Xi finally felt a bit more confident.

From within the clouds, an enormous, somewhat bloated body parted the mist. At its tail was connected a mace-like weapon, neither quite bronze nor iron.

Within those majestic, imposing dragon eyes, the gaze directed at Xi held a trace of mockery.

"I say, Little Xi, why are you trembling?"

Ling's teasing voice rang out behind Xi, causing her expression to relax slightly. With two people here, dealing with this would be somewhat easier.

"Stop talking nonsense and come help," she said irritably, not bothering to retort about Ling's form of address.

With two people, they should be able to control the situation without involving the common folk.

At the very least, they couldn't let this ticking time bomb explode within Gouwu City.

Hmph, it wasn't that she cared about the common folk or anything; she just didn't want those annoying flies from the Sui Division to come bother her.

Even staying holed up at home wasn't safe; there were always a few unreasonable ones who could come and set her paintings on fire.

"Help with what?"

"This is no time for jokes."

And that thing... it had grown larger again. Was it because of Ling?

"Ha~"

Ling lazily straightened her posture. Following her signal, Fiammetta had already taken advantage of the moment when Sui and Xi were confronting each other. Stepping on the gathering and dispersing clouds, she had jogged all the way back to Kevin's side.

"She doesn't seem as confident as you are."

Kevin saw through the nature of the giant beast overhead at a glance—it was merely a projection of some creature, an illusory image lacking substance.

But for Xi, it was a nightmare that had kept her from closing her eyes in peace for hundreds of years of painting.

"She's my little sister; she always needs to grow."

"I'm not interested in your current situation. If you can't stop it, I'll intervene."

The small courtyard outside had just been tidied up. Kevin wasn't pleased to see the fruits of her labor, which had cost her considerable effort, being trampled.

Even if that big guy overhead was just an illusion, it still possessed destructive power. If it broke out of the painting, forget about Gouwu City; her own residence certainly wouldn't survive.

"No problem."

Ling made an "OK" gesture.

Seeing these two made Xi furious. What time was it? The Sui-xiang was right overhead, and they were still chatting over there?!

"Hey! I'm talking to you two! Are you really not going to help?!"

Ling has issues... no, wait, both of you have issues, right?

Roar!

A terrifying sonic wave overturned rivers and mountains, shattering the sky-filled scenery into pure, fragmented ink traces.

The shattered painting seemed to be replaced by another scroll. Thick layers of dark clouds piled up, and as time passed, the Sui-xiang's form grew increasingly massive.

"Watch out!"

Xi drew her sword and swept it horizontally. The shattered ink all converged upon the blade's spine.

Stars hide amidst scattered snow, the moon's shadow is clear and empty; clumsy mountains, withered waters, a great river flows!

Swish!

With a splashing ink strike, she finally delivered her first blow against her nightmare!

Golden lightning was shattered by this ink-stained sword. But before she could even catch her breath, the dragon-tail mace swept across, sending her flying several kilometers away.

With both Ling and Xi present, the current Sui-xiang was only equivalent to one-sixth of its original power. But dealing with a Xi who couldn't see through its illusory nature was more than sufficient.

"Hiss......."

Xi was stunned by the blow—not because of the Sui-xiang's attack, but because Ling and Kevin were really just watching from the sidelines!

Why are you just standing there watching?

A terrifying beam shot from the Sui-xiang's mouth, giving Xi no time to react at all.

The struggle became exceptionally fierce for a time. The total amount of exercise this shut-in had gotten over hundreds of years couldn't compare to today. She could only maintain a brief stalemate.

But the Sui-xiang was unwilling to accept this. It had already sensed the falseness of this realm; it needed to go to a more real place!

Golden thunderbolts attacked in all directions. Spiritual mountains were destroyed one after another; long rivers were evaporated one after another.

Shaking everything that constituted this world.

"Bad!"

If given a bit more time, Xi was completely confident she could suppress the Sui-xiang back, as it was merely a manifestation of the shadow in her heart. But if it broke free from this painted world, things would become serious.

Outside was Gouwu City. Even if they solved the problem in the end, I'm afraid it would still cause many civilian casualties.

"Hey! Spectators! If you don't come over now, we really won't be able to control it!"

Xi was drenched in sweat.

"It's time."

Xi hadn't reached her limit yet, but this painting's limit had been reached.

Kevin stood up. The scorching greatsword was planted on the ground. Merely a wisp of its overflowing aura was enough to contend equally with that massive Sui-xiang!

Under this bizarre balance formed by two destructive forces, this painting was miraculously stabilized.

"'Giant Beast'? So that's what they meant by that term back then. There is indeed a certain degree of similarity."

Regarding Kevin stepping forward, Ling showed no intention of stopping him.

"At least you have a conscience, unlike that spectator."

The frown on Xi's brow finally relaxed somewhat.

"Roar!"

As if provoked by the "insect" walking towards it, the dragon claw above the clouds ruthlessly pressed down, accompanied by rushing thunder and lightning!

But its simple thoughts now encountered unprecedented resistance.

Boom!

A white giant claw, even larger than "It," blocked that swift dragon claw. The collision of the two colossal beings squeezed the air, producing an ear-splitting wail!

Distributed upon it were sharp, distinct white bony structures. Purple-red veins resembled precise circuits, recording something in an unknown manner.

"Roar!"

The Sui-xiang's roar had no effect. The terrifying force did not shatter its enemy. On the contrary, with just one swipe from that white giant claw, large areas of depression appeared on the Sui-xiang's scales. Its massive body crashed down onto those ink-wash mountains!

Kevin stepped forward one pace at a time. That white giant claw, like rootless duckweed, slowly retracted, as if welcoming its king!

Countless white ribbons madly gushed forth from the ground, gradually completing the white giant claw from the elbow. A huge, complete outline was sketched out. A meteor-like base supported that heavy body. From the spiral-shaped main trunk grew three arms, each with its own distinctive features.

Giant claw, lantern, beast pincer.

Red ribbon-like objects extended from above and swayed. A gigantic golden-red divine halo seemed to reflect "Its" arrival.

Of course, what was here wasn't the trueoriginal body (original body). To deal with an illusion, an illusion alone sufficed.

"What on earth... is that thing?"

Xi found it difficult to remain calm and quickly retreated two steps, maintaining a certain safe distance from Kevin.

Ling stopped drinking her wine and stared blankly at that thing floating in the sky—even larger than the "Sui-xiang."

"Hey hey hey, although everyone keeps things hidden up their sleeves, isn't this hiding things a bit too deeply?"
