Chapter 66 Chapter 66: Ya
Chapter 66: Ya
That was a "female." Her shoulders were propped up high by a pair of shoulder guards devoid of any aesthetic appeal.
A voluminous robe of gold, red, and black added a touch of sinister aura to her. Black hair cascaded loosely down her back, bronze cloud rings encircled her sides, and she held a long blade nearly half a person's height.
Her crimson eyes held a bewitching allure, and atop her head were two pointed ears, red on the inside and black on the outside.
"This aura is...?"
The lamp staff came into her hand, emitting a faint glow. Ling stood up. Though she still wore that carefree, languid expression, a hint of seriousness had appeared in her eyes.
"'He' spoke of you?"
Ya first fixed her gaze on Ling, then shook her head as if denying herself.
Though it was indeed one-twelfth of "Him," it still wasn't that "Sui" she was familiar with. That person had awakened "Him"; it shouldn't have been just for this purpose.
"So, it's you, right?"
Ya locked onto Kevin. Yes, it was him!
Though vastly different from the true aura of a "Behemoth," that sense of familiarity, perceivable only by true "kin," could not be mistaken.
This was a complete "Behemoth"!
Had it migrated from another region? No, considering Yan, this land of trouble—the very site of the "Great Hunt" where gods were slain—it was unlikely any Behemoth would come here seeking misfortune.
So, was it a newly born "kin"? Why did it maintain a human form?
And why... did that "kin's" aura feel so complex?
Destruction? Madness? Indifference?
The intricate and chaotic aura almost shattered Ya's understanding of any kin. It was definitely not something "humans" or their agents could possess.
Yet, such a chaotic entity seemed forcibly bound together by a pure will and power.
Chaos and unity—it was too contradictory.
Ya found she couldn't quite comprehend this kin before her, but it didn't matter.
A newborn "Behemoth"—she didn't mind offering "Him" some guidance in these times when their kind was scarce.
"Come with me. We are 'kin.'"
She extended her hand, releasing the aura of "Yazi," unique to Behemoths. For any kin, this Behemoth aura was the most direct language of communication.
Ya extended an invitation; she didn't believe her "kin" would refuse.
"I am not your 'kin.'"
Kevin found this baffling, but it didn't stop him from remaining vigilant.
"It seems you have been deeply tainted by humans. But it's fine. Come with me. I will help you become 'yourself' again."
Ya harbored immense tolerance for this newly born "kin." "He" had gone far too long without an opponent or companion to converse with.
Returning to this land, "He" would certainly settle old scores. But for the sake of a new "companion," a slight delay was acceptable.
Those insects had cunning methods; having an extra helper during the eventual revenge wouldn't hurt.
"Hey~ What do you mean by saying you'll take my person right in front of me?"
Ling stretched lazily, her golden-ratio figure perfectly displayed. She twirled her lamp staff; the hanging lantern swayed slightly, emitting pinpricks of light.
"Do not obstruct me. You are ultimately not 'Him,' merely one-twelfth of a fragment. Beings like us will forever remember the disgrace of 'Sui,' but now is not the time for reckoning."
Perhaps on another day, she might have been interested in Ling. But now, she only wanted to take her newborn "kin" away from this city.
Before humans completely stain this "kin" with their colors...
"And what are you? Merely an agent."
Ling chuckled lightly. Trading barbs? Who couldn't do that?
She was only one-twelfth of Sui, and the being before her was merely an agent.
"My patience is limited."
Clang—
The blade left its sheath. A cold gleam like a full moon about to brim over flashed like lightning as it slashed towards Ling.
Ling's hands sank slightly as her lamp staff firmly parried the blow.
A palm strike, sinuous as a swimming dragon, followed the long staff shaft and slapped against the back of Ya's blade. The two began to exchange blows!
"Go to a safe place. Remember, there's no need to call for help."
"Mhm."
Kevin gave a calm instruction. Ordinary people would be utterly helpless in such a battle; even a stray ripple could be fatal.
Hongxue nodded obediently and quickly ran down from the city wall without looking back. She wasn't the type of woman who would stubbornly stay and cause trouble.
His hand felt a weight as the greatsword appeared in his grip. Kevin stepped into the fray.
Amidst the clash of lamp staff and long blade, an overbearing greatsword suddenly intervened, violently shattering the myriad blade lights.
Caught off guard, Ya was sent flying back by this powerful, heavy slash. Earth and stones flew, dust rose, and she embedded herself into a corner of the city wall.
"My, two against one, and a sneak attack at that. Isn't that a bit unsportsmanlike?"
Though Ling was clearly smiling happily, her words were still mocking.
"No mercy is needed against enemies."
Flames ignited, casting Kevin's face in a crimson glow from the greatsword's light. However, seeing the streets not far below the tower, he ultimately restrained himself somewhat.
"Enemies?! Hehehe..."
Ya stood up from the pile of earth and stones, holding her forehead as she chuckled coldly, clearly incredulous at the term used by her "kin."
"See? My 'kin.' Those are your enemies. Humans are your enemies!"
Ya pointed her long blade towards the streets, where bustling crowds resided. The tense standoff on the city tower and their peaceful lives seemed like two extremes.
"Nonsense."
Kevin no longer wanted to argue this topic with her. If this weren't Yumen City, Judgement of Shamash would have already achieved its initial liberation by now. But as it stood...
He'd just have to put in more effort.
His figure vanished like a shadow. The sharp greatsword descended upon Ya with the most orthodox posture. The two clashed again!
Clang! Clang!
In merely two exchanges, Ya's body was sent flying like a sandbag once more, crashing into the sandy ground outside the city wall and creating a large crater.
Her combat style was too crude, like that of a mere beginner, though her incredible blade speed masked this flaw.
Faster? Kevin was faster than her!
Thus, in direct confrontation, this disadvantage was magnified infinitely.
That's why Ya appeared so "weak" before him.
"With such formidable power, why do you side with those insects?"
Ya couldn't understand—Kevin was like this; Sui of the past was like this; even the twelve fragments today were like this. Was there really anything about those humans worth caring for?
They were so frail; a single breath from Him could effortlessly crush swathes of these "vermin."
"Those foolish, arrogant insects dig through rock veins, bore through riverbeds, turn mountains and lakes upside down, invert purity and turbidity. They name those hideous scars 'cities.' Shouldn't eternal beings like us wipe them out?"
"Answer me, my—kin!!!"
With the last sentence, Ya practically roared.
Anger, resentment, disgrace, and sorrow...
