Chapter 18 Chapter 18: Heaven’s Heavy Burden

Jan 16, 2026 874 words

Hearing someone was looking for her, Su Yuan was puzzled. Friends had her number, they would call, not hunt her down in classrooms. Suspicious, she walked toward the door.

Outside, Peng Jie leaned against the wall, posing coolly. Seeing her, he flashed a dazzling smile. “We meet again. I need to talk”

“Sorry. I do not know you. Nothing to discuss” Though Peng Jie’s smile was bright, Su Yuan now saw it as filthy. She had heard his reputation, enough to make her cut ties even if they had been friends. To her, he was human trash.

“Yehan, Gao Jun, let us go”

Peng Jie’s smile froze in shock. His cool invitations never failed. Yet here he stood, rejected.

After a long pause, he recovered. Noticing his follower staring oddly, he cleared his throat and feigned depth. “Truly challenging prey. Xiao Pang, see. Conquering her would be far more satisfying than those ordinary women”

“But Peng Ge, he did not even respect you”

“You would not understand. Fine wine ages well. The harder the win, the sweeter the victory”

Xiao Pang hesitated. “But I checked, he is a guy. Not a girl. Are you sure chasing him is wise”

“What guy or girl. Are my eyes broken”

“Peng Ge, he really is male. Just looks girly. Ask his classmates if you do not believe me” The follower panicked. He had thought Peng Ge had turned gay, now he realized his boss had mistaken a boy for a girl. A colossal blunder needing urgent correction.

Peng Jie waved impatiently. “Then go verify”

Walking back, willow branches swayed gently over the riverbank in the warm breeze. Su Yuan led the way while Ji Yehan and Gao Jun followed, deep in thought.

“What was that about” Ji Yehan frowned. “Why would Peng Jie seek you out”

“How should I know. I have exchanged fewer than ten words with him”

Gao Jun scratched his head. “Weird. The Economics School Casanova personally tracking you down after one chat. Su Yuan, what magic do you have. You are not even a beauty, he should not notice you”

“Gao Jun” Su Yuan snapped. “Does being beautiful automatically attract Peng Jie”

“Hard to say. They say he sniffs out beauties like a bloodhound. That is why they call him the Casanova”

Su Yuan’s heart lurched. Can a nose really detect gender. Did he see through me. A cold shiver cut through the summer heat.

Ji Yehan joked. “Maybe he mistook you for a girl. Possible”

“Exactly” Gao Jun clapped his hands. “Our Su Yuan is naturally gorgeous. With some makeup, absolutely a beauty. Haha, that Casanova finally slipped up”

“Yehan” Su Yuan scowled, displeased by the tease.

“Su Yuan” Gao Jun suddenly turned solemn. “Remember, Heaven imposes great responsibilities on those it will test, first breaking their will, exhausting their bodies, starving their flesh. I propose this, for all women’s sake, endure humiliation. Let Peng Jie fall for your female disguise. Then shatter his heart by revealing you are a man. Destroy his warped love philosophy and save countless girls. Brilliant, right”

Su Yuan rolled her eyes. “Brilliant your head. No games, I am not playing”

“Oh, I see now, you and Peng Jie are cut from the same cloth. Thank heavens you lack his handsome face, or another girl devouring monster would roam the earth”

“What. Comparing me to him” Gao Jun gasped as if grievously wronged.

“Hmph. Your filth rivals his. Do not act innocent. Look at Yehan, often teased by me, yet a true gentleman. You, just a lecherous little fatty” Her contempt was unmistakable.

Ji Yehan puffed his chest proudly at her praise. Gao Jun groaned. “He is just hiding it. Ever heard of hypocrites”

“Gao Jun. Do not ruin the decent image I have built in Su Yuan’s mind”

Gao Jun pleaded with Ji Yehan, then turned to Su Yuan. “I am not Peng Jie’s level. Yes, my thoughts get dirty sometimes, but what man does not. I am merely average”

“…Frankly, we are two of a kind. I have my filth, you, you are a repressed pervert. Half a pound versus eight ounces, stop laughing at others’ shorter steps”

“Repressed pervert” Su Yuan bristled. That label felt worse than lecherous. Was she truly more despicable than Gao Jun.

Nonsense. Unacceptable.

“Exactly. You are repressed” Gao Jun insisted.

“Gao Jun, see a doctor. Yehan, judge this, Gao Jun called me repressed”

Ji Yehan had planned to stay neutral but knew Su Yuan would drag him in. He shot Gao Jun a warning glance. “How can you say that to Su Yuan”

“Stop. Unfair. You always gang up on me, two against one” Gao Jun clutched his chest dramatically. “Yehan, this is not right. You constantly take Su Yuan’s side. What about fairness. Justice. Humanity’s highest ideals”

“Haha, quit yelling. This is why allies matter” Su Yuan shot him a triumphant look. “Find your own backup if you dare”
