Chapter 59 Chapter 59: Brother’s Wife

Jan 16, 2026 894 words

A few minutes later, Xia Linfei lifted her eyes from the microscope and studied Su Yuan for a long time. Finally, her lips curved, and she tugged Su Yuan over. “Ah, so that’s why you’re such a pretty boy—you’re a tomboy!”

She hugged Su Yuan, ruffled her hair, and even reached toward her chest. A soft squeeze revealed surprising fullness.

“Summer Jie, stop that!!” Su Yuan said sternly.

She hated this kind of boundary‑crossing play between girls, especially being treated as a little girl. She had heard: men are like peaches, soft outside but hard inside; women are like eggs, hard shell but soft within. Men endure mountains; women fear broken fingers. That “fragility” was not what she wanted.

“Alright, alright, no more jokes.” Linfei reluctantly let go.

Silence lingered. Then Linfei said, “I suspected you were a girl long ago, but didn’t ask—afraid to hurt your pride.”

Su Yuan nearly cried. You’ve already hurt it now.

She expected Linfei to ask why she disguised herself as a boy, ready with excuses from transformation novels. But Linfei didn’t ask at all.

Novels lie. Look at Summer Jie—so considerate!

“Su Yuan, you still live in the boys’ dorm?”

“Mm.”

“That won’t do. A girl in that place—it’s dangerous, inconvenient. You should move out.”

“This…”

Su Yuan hesitated. Her counselor had mentioned it too. Daily life was indeed inconvenient—bathrooms, laundry, even drying clothes.

“I’ll consider moving after National Day. But for now… can I bathe at your place, and dry my clothes there?”

Linfei sighed. “Of course. Not just bathing and drying—if you want, you can live with me.”

“That might cause misunderstandings with Gao Jun…”

Linfei glared. “What does he matter? Don’t worry about him!”

Su Yuan nodded quickly. “Yes, yes, I understand.”

Linfei smiled, grasped her hand. “Such pretty hands. They feel so nice.”

“…” Su Yuan thought, Summer Jie really is a bold tomboy—she even enjoys teasing girls.

She watched Linfei work, moving gracefully between labs. In her white coat, she radiated intellectual beauty—not girlish innocence, not aggressive dominance, but subtle feminine charm.

“Truly a beauty,” Su Yuan whispered.

Linfei was unpredictable—sometimes fierce, sometimes gentle. Like an old well: sometimes dry, sometimes full of cold spring water. What lay beneath the cover was unknown.

Checking her phone, Su Yuan saw it was past five. “Summer Jie, I’ll head back.”

Linfei answered from the next room. Su Yuan left for the dorm.

Dorm 330.

Su Yuan opened the door to find Yang Xiaowei at her desk, using her computer to chat with his girlfriend.

Surprised—he rarely came at this hour.

Seeing her, he smiled. “Su Su, borrowing your computer.”

Su Yuan didn’t mind, sat lazily. “Why aren’t you with your girlfriend?”

“She had a classmate visit, so she kicked me out.”

Su Yuan chuckled. “Classmate—male or female?”

“If male, I’d be there guarding the front line.” He rolled his eyes.

Su Yuan nodded, pulled out her phone to read novels. She had been studying transformation stories for inspiration, though discarding illogical ones. She preferred happy endings—tragic ones she avoided. Fantasy worlds lacked practical lessons, so she focused on urban tales. But she wondered: why did all those protagonists end up married?

Nearby, Yang Xiaowei laughed with his girlfriend. Su Yuan cracked sunflower seeds, chatting idly with Yehao and Gao Jun.

Unaware, their voices caused trouble.

“Xiaowei, why do I hear a girl’s voice? Where are you?” his girlfriend Mo Ying asked.

“In the dorm! That was my brother talking!” He gestured for silence.

Su Yuan and the others stopped, puzzled.

“Brother? That was clearly a girl’s voice! Don’t tell me your dorm is mixed.” Mo Ying was sharp, not easily fooled.

She wasn’t petty, but highly sensitive. With her intuition, Xiaowei could never stray.

“It’s really a guy!”

Xiaowei’s head throbbed. He glanced at Su Yuan, realizing her voice had softened. Without careful listening, it could be mistaken for a girl’s.

“No words?” Mo Ying’s tone grew hurt. She cared deeply, and hearing a girl’s voice unsettled her.

Finally, Xiaowei whispered, “It’s my brother—Su Yuan. You know him.”

“Su Yuan?” Mo Ying was surprised. She remembered him as a cute boy, with a neutral but still masculine voice. Yet what she heard sounded feminine.

The video feed shifted, showing dorm 330—familiar background, familiar faces.

“Maybe I misunderstood…”

Mo Ying felt embarrassed. If it was a mistake, she seemed petty. But unwilling to concede, she said, “No, let Su Yuan video with me. I want to talk to him.”

Xiaowei smiled faintly. He knew she was softening, but needed dignity. Still, letting his girlfriend chat with his “brother” felt odd.

He beckoned Su Yuan, handed her the headset. “My wife wants to video with you.”

“With me?”

“Yes.” Xiaowei feigned jealousy. “You’re so popular—even my wife wants to chat with you!”

Su Yuan chuckled, put on the headset, and sat at the computer.
