Chapter 49 Chapter 49: Shopping

Jan 16, 2026 705 words

Time passed quickly, and soon it was the day of the appointment.

With no classes that morning, Ji Yehao and Gao Jun were still asleep when Su Yuan’s alarm rang just after seven.

Feeling the bed shake, Ji Yehao lifted his head and saw Su Yuan climbing down.

“Why wake up so early when there’s no class?” he asked, then paused. Su Yuan was wearing a thin summer shirt, short‑sleeved, her delicate arms exposed. From his angle he could even glimpse the faint curve of her underarm.

Su Yuan was unaware. Seeing she had disturbed him, she jumped lightly from the last step of the bunk.

“I arranged to meet a friend today, and I’ll buy some things.”

She slipped on her slippers, grabbed her toiletries, and disappeared into the bathroom.

Her habits hadn’t changed—brushing her teeth, filling the basin with hot water, and relieving herself. Only now she had to squat instead of stand. By the time she finished, the basin was overflowing.

After washing, she changed into clean clothes, tidied her look, said goodbye to Ji Yehao, and left.

At the campus gate it was 7:30. The meeting with Hongye was set for 8:30 at the Youth Cultural Plaza.

The plaza was a bustling hub of shopping streets, snack stalls, and electronics markets, next to Zhongshan Park. By bus it would take forty minutes.

Su Yuan withdrew 1,500 yuan from an ATM, ready to shop. She didn’t want to wait for the bus.

A sky‑blue taxi approached. She waved it down.

“Where to, little miss?” the middle‑aged driver asked.

“Youth Cultural Plaza,” she replied, closing her eyes to rest as the car started.

She had slept little the night before, excitement keeping her awake. Drowsy, she drifted off.

The road was smooth, the car rocking gently. Warm wind rushed in through the window, blowing her hair aside, clearing her sleepiness.

“Hmm?” She noticed the car seemed slow.

“Could you drive faster?” she asked, displeased at the driver’s lingering glances in the mirror.

He pressed the accelerator, and twenty minutes later they arrived.

“How much?”

“Thirty.”

She frowned. “But the meter says twenty‑three.”

“You saw it and still ask? If you let uncle touch you, I won’t charge.”

“Pervert!” She threw two tens at him and slammed the door.

“You shorted me three yuan and slammed the door! I’ll beat you!” he shouted.

Su Yuan ignored him. With so many people around, she wasn’t afraid.

“Pretending to be pure when you’re not even wearing underwear!” he muttered, then smiled at a new passenger.

Su Yuan snorted. Rotten old man. Let the police deal with you.

She bought two buns for breakfast and waited at the plaza’s west entrance.

Soon she saw a beautiful woman approaching—the same figure she had seen on video.

Hongye waved excitedly.

She had arrived earlier, working at the First Hospital nearby. She had even seen Su Yuan slam the taxi door and eat buns hungrily, finding her adorable.

“Sorry to keep you waiting,” Hongye said, her eyes sparkling. Seeing Su Yuan in person, she found her even more delicate, her skin smoother.

“No, I just arrived.”

Her voice was clear and gentle. Hongye praised it, though frowned at her simple outfit—long sleeves covering her arms. It lowered her impression from eight points to seven.

But since today was for shopping, she smiled. I’ll dress her properly today.

“Let’s go. Where should we start?”

She naturally linked arms with Su Yuan. Su Yuan froze, then hid her awkwardness. She remembered girls often held hands while shopping.

“I don’t know. I rarely shop.”

“You rarely shop?” Hongye was shocked. Such a pretty girl, yet she didn’t care about clothes. No wonder she didn’t know how to show her beauty.

Su Yuan felt uneasy under her gaze. “Wha… what’s wrong?”

Hongye smiled warmly. “Nothing. Since you don’t know, leave it to me.”

“Let’s buy clothes first.”

“Alright.” That was exactly Su Yuan’s plan. She agreed readily.
