Chapter 51 Chapter 51: Beauty Not Recognized
“Women’s things are so expensive—so little fabric, yet over a thousand yuan!”
Leaving the market, Su Yuan muttered nonstop. She had heard before that women’s clothes were costly, but today she truly experienced it. A few T‑shirts, cardigans, a lace dress, a ruffled blouse, plus jeans, shorts, and several sets of lingerie—her 1,500 yuan vanished instantly.
Hongye smiled at her complaints. Su Yuan had changed back into her earlier outfit, but now with lingerie underneath, her figure looked far more graceful. Hongye liked her even more—such potential beauty, with a heart still pure, like a blooming lily.
“No, I need to withdraw more money!”
Spotting an ATM, Su Yuan hurried over and withdrew another 1,500 yuan, ready to continue shopping.
Passing a men’s clothing store, she turned inside. Though she had bought four sets of women’s outfits, she regretted it—she wouldn’t have many chances to wear them. Her wardrobe still held men’s clothes, but they were thin or ill‑fitting. She needed more.
“Su Yuan, why are you in a men’s shop?” Hongye followed, surprised. “Buying for your boyfriend?”
Su Yuan stayed silent.
“Alright, I’ll check the shop next door,” Hongye said, smiling slyly.
Su Yuan quickly chose a black sports outfit—slightly bold, perfect for hiding curves as the weather cooled. “Boss, this one.”
The shopkeeper beamed. “Good eye, miss. 299 yuan. Buy two, I’ll give you 20% off.”
“So expensive?” Su Yuan thought. Even men’s clothes were overpriced. She bargained: “Two for 450.”
The boss sighed theatrically. “At that price I lose money… but fine, for popularity, 450.”
Su Yuan paid, glaring at his false lament.
Outside, Hongye returned with a bag. “I bought you a coat.”
“For me?”
“Yes, a gift.”
Su Yuan hesitated, but Hongye glared. “You dare refuse?”
“…Alright, I’ll accept. Let me treat you to a cold drink.”
They sat in a café, enjoying chilled drinks.
Su Yuan frowned at the pile of bags. She hadn’t expected to buy so much—it would be a burden to carry home.
Hongye suggested cosmetics, but Su Yuan refused. As a former man, she couldn’t accept them. Hongye relented, but insisted on skincare products. “A girl’s skin is like fruit—it must be kept fresh.” Su Yuan reluctantly agreed.
“Let’s style your hair,” Hongye proposed.
“No, I’m tired,” Su Yuan declined.
Hongye pouted, baffled by her thinking.
Passing an eyewear shop, Su Yuan stopped. She recalled transformation novels—messy hair and old‑fashioned glasses were useful disguises. “I want glasses.”
“Near‑sighted?” Hongye asked.
“Not presbyopia,” Su Yuan joked, entering.
The clerk greeted them. “What strength lenses?”
“Flat lenses,” Su Yuan said.
Hongye eagerly picked stylish frames. Su Yuan rejected them. She wanted disguise, not beauty. She chose an old‑fashioned, oversized frame.
The clerk advised against it. “Too large, hides your beauty, looks stiff.”
Su Yuan was delighted. “Perfect. Cheap too. I’ll take it.”
Hongye sighed. “If she likes it, fine.”
The clerk installed the lenses.
Su Yuan then pointed to sunglasses—large, gray lenses, frog‑like. “How much?”
“198 yuan. Unisex, polarized, very suitable.”
“I’ll take it too.”
“Thank you!” the clerk said, watching them leave.
