Chapter 32 Chapter 32: Sudden Misfortune

Jan 16, 2026 919 words

Awakening from the pleasant sensation, Su Yuan felt a surge of resistance. Her face hardened like an icy mountain as she looked coldly at the crowd.

Surprised expressions, whispered conversations, girls pointing fingers from afar. The buzzing voices were indistinct, yet Su Yuan knew she had been dragged into trouble. More precisely, she had been played.

She never expected her life to follow the clichés of novels, where the campus beauty seeks a shield and then falls for the protagonist. Such stories were nonsense. Only those who confuse fiction with reality would believe this was reasonable.

Su Yuan was simple and steady. She never wished for her life to become dazzling. In that sense she had the awareness of a true protagonist, knowing that unfamiliar and extraordinary situations often brought unpredictable consequences.

Now, seeing herself at the center of the storm, she calmed down to examine it.

There was no denying Xiao Yiyan’s beauty. She was a goddess in the eyes of many, and the kiss had been stirring, worth remembering. Perhaps if it had happened before her transformation, she would have been thrilled, even reckless. But now she was no longer the same person. She had to think with a cooler mind.

And thinking brought a strong sense of absurdity. It felt like a foolish game.

Xiao Yiyan’s noble bearing was clear from the first meeting. Her aloofness and pride seemed out of place in the modern world, more suited to ancient tales. For her to kiss Su Yuan so casually in public was baffling.

A shield. That was obvious.

Why choose Su Yuan as the shield. Perhaps she seemed convenient, easy to discard afterward.

Whatever the reason, Su Yuan was unhappy at losing control.

She knew she needed a moment of defiance. To be summoned and dismissed like a dog was intolerable.

Yet the expected clash did not happen. The crowd dispersed. Su Yuan remembered Lin Jun’s fierce glare before leaving, and it chilled her.

She ignored Xiao Yiyan’s relieved smile and walked away expressionless.

Some things were better left unsaid.

It felt like punching cotton. She was hurt.

“Su… Su Yuan…” A timid voice called. She turned to see Yan Bing, a shy girl from the External Relations Department.

“What is it.”

“You should be careful. That Lin Jun…”

Su Yuan waved lightly. “I know. I will avoid him.” She turned to leave.

“No.” Yan Bing hurried. “His father is the deputy director of the Public Security Bureau.”

Su Yuan staggered, nearly twisting her ankle. “His father is deputy director.”

Yan Bing nodded firmly.

Looking at the sky, heavy clouds pressing down, Su Yuan realized this was serious. Xiao Yiyan had dragged her into real trouble. If she had tried to act strong earlier, it would have been disastrous.

She had offended Xiao Yiyan and angered Lin Jun. The world of privilege was beyond her. A moment’s thrill had brought endless consequences.

“Thank you.”

She smiled gratefully and limped back to the dorm.

Inside, she collapsed on the desk.

“Su Yuan, look. You are on the campus forum.” Gao Jun shouted.

“As expected.” Su Yuan replied coolly.

The forum was ablaze. “The Goddess’s Mysterious Boyfriend Revealed.” “Loser’s Counterattack, Real‑Life Romance of Commoner and Princess.” “Goddess Kisses Weak Boy in Public.” Several posts filled the page.

One photo captured the kiss perfectly. Xiao Yiyan’s face was hidden, but Su Yuan’s startled eyes were clear.

She stared at it, thinking the photographer must hate her. She looked foolish.

Her anger flared.

Popularity soared.

As the rumored boyfriend, she was admired, mocked, envied.

“This is bad.” She grew more troubled.

“Su Yuan, hold on.” Ji Yehao appeared, his eyes full of sympathy.

Fame was dangerous. Su Yuan was infamous now, hated by many.

She waved weakly. “Yehao, bring me pork chop rice for dinner. Heaven has given me a burden. My name is known. Now I must rest and recover, survive this trial.”

“Su Yuan, this trial looks grim.” Gao Jun interjected.

Su Yuan glared. “Jinx.” But she knew he was right.

That evening, hungry, she ate the pork chop rice Ji Yehao brought. Her phone rang. The first trial had arrived.

She glanced at the unfamiliar number, tossed the phone aside, and kept eating.

But the caller persisted. The ringing continued. Frowning, she answered.

“Hello.”

“Are you Su Yuan.”

“Who is this.”

“Tell me if you are Su Yuan.”

“Yes. What of it.”

The rude tone annoyed her. She hung up.

“Trouble?” Ji Yehao asked.

“Not sure. The voice was unfamiliar, arrogant. Nothing good.”

The phone rang again.

“Answer it. Find out.” Gao Jun advised.

She hesitated, then picked up. Seeing the number, she laughed. “He changed numbers.”

“Su Yuan, come to the back hill training ground. I am waiting. If you do not come, you will regret it.” The voice was the same. He hung up before she could reply.

“Who is so arrogant.” Su Yuan muttered. She decided to keep eating her pork chop rice.

At the back hill training ground, a boy in white sportswear squatted on the metal bars, smoking. He watched the smoke rings rise. “Damn, half an hour already. Even crawling he should be here. Where is that Su kid.”

“Damn it. Did that bastard stand me up.”
