Chapter 137 Chapter 137 A Refrigerator Full Of Orange Juice
Chapter 137 A Refrigerator Full Of Orange Juice
“Orange… orange juice.”
Hearing Chi Xiaocheng’s words, an ill premonition rose in Su Tao’s heart.
Her first reaction was to look at Chi Xiaocheng’s hands.
But she was wearing long sleeves today; her two slender arms were hidden within the fabric, showing no signs of anything amiss.
Then this orange juice...
Su Tao swallowed, one hand unconsciously hidden behind her back, trembling slightly.
Chi Xiaocheng blinked obediently. “Hmm? Is there something wrong with the orange juice? Or perhaps Taotao doesn’t like orange juice?”
“No… of course I like orange juice.”
Su Tao immediately broke into a smile.
She already knew that when it came to the word “like,” Chi Xiaocheng had an abnormal persistence. This was also the most crucial trigger for her yandere tendencies!
Any deviation from her wishes might lead to her darkening.
Once that word was uttered, Su Tao knew she truly had no choice.
She watched as Chi Xiaocheng put Dawang down.
Then she slipped into the kitchen.
Su Tao glanced over and her heart clenched again when she noticed the small knife that had been on the coffee table was gone, only its sheath remaining.
Subconsciously, she turned to the kitchen and called out, “Xiaocheng!”
“What’s wrong?”
Chi Xiaocheng’s questioning voice came out, as she walked out with a glass of orange-colored orange juice.
Seeing this, Su Tao let out a long breath.
So it was just this orange juice; it had given her a fright.
“Here~”
A disposable cup filled with orange juice was handed to Su Tao.
Su Tao reached out to take it, finding the orange juice somewhat cool, clearly taken from the refrigerator.
Her tongue licked her pink lips, and Su Tao’s heart began to pound inexplicably.
Ah… come to think of it, it had been almost a month since she’d tasted orange juice.
Ever since Chi Xiaocheng had become very obedient, she had never forced her to drink orange juice again.
Wait.
Obedient?
Su Tao raised her gaze, looking at the smiling Chi Xiaocheng. Her small face was close to hers, her delicate skin perfectly clear.
Hadn’t Xiaocheng been this obedient just before her episode on the bridge?
Hiding that yandere side behind this disguise called “obedience.”
Speaking of which, Xiaocheng had clearly written a suicide note and had been utterly disappointed in herself.
The words in the suicide note had even expressed something she had wanted to say herself.
—I am no longer your Xiaocheng.
Yes, the signature at the end, after “Goodnight.”
The word “your” was clearly crossed out.
At that time, unsure if Chi Xiaocheng would ever wake up, Su Tao had felt a wrenching pain in her heart from regret because of that last sentence.
Those few short words seemed to constantly remind her.
Originally, Xiaocheng belonged to you.
Now, Xiaocheng has nothing to do with you anymore, and you’ll never see Xiaocheng again!
But what about after Chi Xiaocheng truly woke up?
Su Tao had prepared for Chi Xiaocheng to attempt suicide a second time; for heart-wrenching pain; for her to hit her, curse her for her “betrayal”; or to continue showing her yandere side.
Su Tao had mentally prepared for such extremely bad possibilities.
But after she truly woke up, she only sulked for three days, seemingly disliking her, but actually secretly caring for her deep down.
Her sulking didn’t make people feel scared.
Instead, it showed a cuteness distinct from her usual obedience.
After all, it was like a playful coaxing.
These past few days, Su Tao had been happy about Chi Xiaocheng’s recovery, and busy catching up on things she had fallen behind on due to her own illness. She hadn’t really thought it through.
Why had Xiaocheng been so desperate as to attempt suicide?
Yet after waking up, her emotions were as stable as a normal person’s, and she hadn’t mentioned anything about the time before her suicide attempt?
She hadn’t even pressed for details about Xiao Ming or the suicide note, or even who attacked her that night!
Only when she was alone with her would she casually bring it up.
Now, recalling this in hindsight.
Su Tao suddenly felt countless incongruities rush towards her.
Things she hadn’t really thought through in her mind all surfaced.
Had Xiaocheng truly become normal?
She was even more obedient than half a month ago!
The living room, originally filled with warm light and made comfortable by the air conditioning, slowly became dim and distorted in Su Tao’s eyes.
Dawang was held in Chi Xiaocheng’s arms.
Its eerie vertical pupils seemed to emit a green glow.
Looking up again, Chi Xiaocheng’s pupils also narrowed into vertical slits like Dawang’s, her smile growing more eerie and chilling.
The orange juice in the cup she held… gradually began to turn red.
Su Tao felt a sudden jolt.
After closing her eyes tightly.
She opened them to see Chi Xiaocheng tilting her head in surprise, asking concernedly, “Taotao, what’s wrong?”
The Chi Xiaocheng before her, though her pupils were a tiny bit strange, cuteness was her very definition.
Dawang was only staring curiously at the glass of orange juice.
The living room remained unchanged.
Was what just happened an illusion?
Cold sweat broke out on Su Tao’s back as she gently patted her chest.
Perhaps it had been too long since she’d had orange juice, making her a little nervous.
She closed her eyes, even though the orange juice in her hand was cold.
But she wrinkled her face and tried her best to down it in one gulp.
Perhaps it was because she hadn’t tasted this flavor in almost a month.
Her body’s original adaptation to orange juice gradually disappeared.
That uncomfortable nausea, coupled with the thought of a certain red liquid, surged forth.
Su Tao truly wanted to go to the kitchen or bathroom and throw up what was churning in her stomach.
But the moment she opened her eyes and glimpsed Chi Xiaocheng.
She forcefully suppressed that impulse.
If she really threw up, everything would be over.
Xiaocheng would definitely make groundless associations!
It was hard to imagine that a drink could make someone sweat so profusely.
Su Tao would rather eat savory tofu pudding than drink orange juice; she, incidentally, preferred the sweet variety.
Su Tao tried her best to control her facial expression, forcing a smile. “Orange juice… it’s really delicious.”
Unbeknownst to her, the hand holding the empty cup was trembling slightly.
As she repeatedly suppressed the discomfort in her stomach, she didn’t even notice that Chi Xiaocheng was smiling even more happily.
Su Tao thought, at least it was just one glass of orange juice.
Just bear with it; it would pass.
Of course, liking it was out of the question.
She even found it revolting.
But, she would just humor Xiaocheng for now.
Chi Xiaocheng took the empty cup from Su Tao, chuckling softly, “That’s great, Taotao likes orange juice just like me! Let’s have some more after dinner.”
“More?”
Su Tao froze for a moment. “Xia… Xiaocheng, is there… a lot of orange juice?”
“Not much, really.”
Chi Xiaocheng walked to the refrigerator, deliberately opening the door wide, while also taking out prepared dinner ingredients.
She deliberately said, “What should we eat tonight? Taotao usually decides; it’s a bit hard to decide by myself all of a sudden.”
And then, what appeared before Su Tao’s eyes was…
Bottle after bottle of orange juice, pulp and all, jam-packed every shelf of the refrigerator.
And they were the expensive, extra-large bottles, the kind usually reserved for parties!
She swallowed, her lips turning a little pale.
Would she have to drink orange juice for the next three days?!
