Chapter 191 Chapter 191 Miracle
Chapter 191 Miracle
As the scenery flashed by, Su Tao sat in the sports car, pondering what Dongfang Yang’s surprise could be.
First, she ruled out the possibility of Chi Xiaocheng coming back to life; that was too far-fetched.
Could it be that Xiao Ming and Lin Fangya had been found?
Or was it about Brother Chi Song?
It could also be related to her own father!
Thinking of that last possibility, Su Tao’s heart sank slightly. She had originally held some expectation for this father she had never met.
But the engagement, and Xiao Ming's irritatingly flashy yellow hair, had diminished that expectation considerably.
Just as Dongfang Yang had said:
If he cared about me, why didn’t he come back sooner?
A person I’ve never even met comes back with an engagement, what does that even mean?
Having had some exposure to the upper circles, her belated realization was that this father wanted to use her to tie down Xiao Ming.
After all, according to Dongfang Yang, this guy was some kind of Dragon King.
While she was lost in her thoughts, the car stopped. “What are you thinking about? We’re here.”
Su Tao was taken aback and quickly came back to her senses. “Nothing… I was wondering how Fang Ning was last night.”
Dongfang Yang put his hands in the pockets of his red coat and walked towards the entrance, saying helplessly, “That little girl’s emotions are relatively stable, but she feels like she has no motivation to live. There’s nothing physically wrong with her. Keeping her in the hospital all the time is too depressing.”
“I have a doctor taking care of her and put her in a cat café. If she doesn’t hate cats and dogs, maybe the little animals can be therapeutic.”
Su Tao: “I'm always troubling you. I… thank you.”
Dongfang Yang looked at Su Tao in surprise. “I thought you were going to apologize again. That thank you sounds much better.”
“Xiaocheng taught me,” Su Tao said, quickly changing the subject. “Speaking of which, what’s the surprise you were talking about?”
“Come with me to see Professor Su first.”
Going straight to the fifth floor, Su Tao found Professor Su in Chi Xiaocheng’s ward.
The moment the familiar face appeared before her eyes, Su Tao’s originally firm gaze turned gentle and remorseful.
Ever since entering the hospital, she had been constantly preparing herself mentally.
It was just one more look at Xiaocheng; it was nothing.
She had even seen her in a dream last night.
But as her gaze fell on the person in the hospital bed, tears involuntarily welled up in her eyes.
In that moment of absentmindedness, Su Tao even overlooked the sophisticated equipment attached to Chi Xiaocheng.
Professor Su stood aside, waiting for Su Tao to calm down, and looked at Dongfang Yang in confusion.
It was as if she was asking, why did you bring Su Tao here?
Dongfang Yang simply shrugged helplessly.
He hadn’t brought her here; Su Tao had requested it.
Neither of them spoke, not wanting to disturb Su Tao.
The girl sat by the bed for a full three minutes before wiping her eyes and saying with a determined tone, “Dongfang Yang, Professor Su, thank you for preserving Xiaocheng’s body for so long, but I think it’s best to cremate her as soon as possible.”
Those words almost choked Professor Su, who was drinking water.
She coughed several times and said to Su Tao, “Miss Su, please don’t get agitated. I’d like you to take a close look at Miss Chi’s condition.”
“Condition?”
She tilted her head and subconsciously looked at the EKG monitor first.
It was still a straight line.
But…
Neither her skin nor her complexion looked like that of someone who had been dead for more than half a month.
Even her light brown hair was incredibly lustrous.
Su Tao reached out and took Chi Xiaocheng’s hand, discovering that it surprisingly had a trace of warmth!
She hurriedly looked at Professor Su. “What’s going on with Xiaocheng? Is she still alive?!”
Professor Su said slowly, “I’m not sure either. We were certain that Miss Chi had died half a month ago. We originally intended to preserve the body temporarily, but later we discovered that Chi Xiaocheng’s heart had already stopped beating.”
“But the cells in her body are still active!”
“Not only active, but even automatically repairing her body!”
The more Professor Su spoke, the more excited she became. “Such a phenomenon has never occurred in our country… no, in the entire world! It’s nothing short of a miracle!”
She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. “Now, the cells are still repairing her body. You’ve also felt that the body temperature, which was originally gone, is now somewhat perceptible.”
Su Tao’s eyes widened, and her breath hitched in her throat. “So, does that mean that Xiaocheng really has a chance to come back to life?!”
“We can’t say for sure.” Professor Su shook her head. “No breathing, heart stopped beating, those are the facts before us.”
Su Tao’s eyes dimmed a little.
But then she heard Professor Su say, “But we have a conjecture: now that the cells in her body are still constantly repairing, her body temperature is gradually returning, and her skin remains active, isn’t there a possibility…”
“That a heart that has stopped beating might one day start beating again?”
Su Tao: “That…”
“Does it sound incredible?” Professor Su asked herself and answered, “I think so too, even if the probability is very, very small!”
Dongfang Yang was more rational than Professor Su. They had already discussed the current situation once, saying,
“According to the analysis of several of my professional professors, Chi Xiaocheng’s current condition may be a case of suspended animation that has never been discovered in medical history. Unlike common shock-induced suspended animation, we learned when she first entered the hospital that the activity of her cells was unusually high.”
“Perhaps it is this point that we overlooked that has caused her body to undergo transformations that we have never known.”
“However, this is a far-fetched explanation, and there is no academic basis for it, but…”
But they couldn’t find any other explanation.
Resurrection from the dead was a little scary.
Categorizing it as an unprecedented case of suspended animation was clearly more reasonable.
More importantly, Dongfang Yang dared not publicize this matter.
Apart from Professor Su, the other professors who had seen Chi Xiaocheng were all his people. He would not let anyone else know about this matter unless he could trust them one hundred percent.
Even Chi Xiaocheng’s death has not been made public to this day!
Once such a miraculous event is discovered by the outside world, it will be impossible for Chi Xiaocheng’s "body" to remain in this hospital.
Dongfang Yang looked at Su Tao, who seemed to be on the verge of tears of joy, and smiled gently. “Although it’s very slim, at least we have a glimmer of hope, just like we once said, right?”
Su Tao still held that small hand, feeling the remaining warmth on it.
Drop after drop of tears fell.
The word "thank you" was already mumbled and unclear.
Professor Su patted Dongfang Yang on the shoulder and gestured towards the door.
“You brought her too early. We ourselves are not sure what’s going on with Miss Chi. What if this is just unnecessary hope…”
“Rest assured.” Dongfang Yang closed the door and took one last look at the two girls in the room. “Perhaps the momentary change in her EKG that Si Chen detected last time wasn’t a malfunction of the equipment.”
“It is because of such miracles that our lives become more colorful, isn’t it?”
