Chapter 429: A Subtle Lingering Unease

He ripped his clothes, his movements fluid and confident.

The intricate tattoos already adorning his body served as a declaration, to Sichen, of his connection to both Chi Xiaocheng and Su Tao. Every time he looked in the mirror, stroking his chin as he gazed at these rather abstract tattoos, he felt his handsomeness had increased by more than just one notch.

And now, the tattoo that proclaimed he would never love Chi Xiaocheng, having been on him for so long, was finally going to be put to good use.

Sichen was about to casually show off, wanting to see Su Tao’s reaction. But to his surprise, the girl instinctively pointed at his tattooed abdomen and exclaimed, “Sichen, what do you mean? Not only do you like Xiaocheng, you actually want to tattoo Xiaocheng onto your body!”

As soon as Sichen heard this, he was instantly dumbfounded, his grand plan to impress largely ruined.

He forcefully poked his own abs. Seeing that the girl seemed to be growing even more agitated, he couldn't help but shout, “Seriously, can you look a little closer? This says ‘Never Love Cheng’!”

“It means I will never love Chi Xiaocheng! Who the hell told you that just because there’s a ‘Cheng’ character tattooed on me, it means I like Chi Xiaocheng?!”

As he spoke, he puffed out his stomach even further.

To make the words on it even clearer.

Su Tao finally saw it clearly, and her initial, somewhat stressed expression calmed. She gave Sichen an embarrassed smile. “My apologies, I didn’t notice the other words at first. But what you’ve carved here is…”

Sichen rolled his eyes. “Of course, it means I have no interest in Chi Xiaocheng. What’s more, I have absolutely no interest in you either. I simply consider both of you friends.”

As he spoke, he turned his back to her.

Behind him, the four characters “Never Love Tao” were even more ostentatious, complete with a gilded border!

Sichen leaned on the rosewood table with one hand, a melancholic expression on his face. “It’s precisely because I know both of your possessiveness is abnormal that I used this method to express my own thoughts. As for your misunderstanding of me, you’re completely overthinking it.”

“Then…” Su Tao still didn’t quite believe him. “Then why have you been constantly looking for Xiaocheng these past few days, and deliberately avoiding me? Don’t you know we’re already together?”

“Of course I know.”

Sichen said, “What I was discussing with her was about Chi Song and his parents. You didn't come in to join the conversation yourself, and now you’re accusing me of avoiding you?”

Su Tao: "..."

Could it be that I really was overthinking it?

Then why was Xiaocheng’s face flushed when she came out of Sichen’s room last time?

Su Tao didn’t dare ask that question; her eavesdropping at the time had been a rather shameful act.

Still, her suspicions had indeed lessened considerably.

After all, the words tattooed on Sichen’s back looked as though they had been carved into his skin, rather than simply being a sticker.

Seeing Su Tao calm down, Sichen took his suit jacket in his hand. “Have you thought it through now?”

Su Tao scratched her head. “Sorry.”

“Hmph~.” Sichen let out another proud snort. “I know you two have been together for a while, and both of you are quite possessive. How could I possibly be so suicidal as to interfere in your relationship? You’d be better off checking on Dongfang Yang; he’s the one who truly likes Chi Xiaocheng.”

“It’s a good thing I had these words carved as a precaution, otherwise, you might actually stab me one day.”

Truly, with “Never Love Tao” etched into my skin, there’s no one in this world quite like me!

Sichen draped his jacket over his shoulder and calmly walked towards the door. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving now. I also need to investigate what’s going on with that Maid Chief.”

Su Tao pursed her lips and nodded gently. “Mm, Sichen, thank you.”

Sichen waved his hand, saying nothing.

Only his broad back, and the four characters “Never Love Tao” emblazoned upon it, shone even more dazzlingly.

He stepped out and closed the door.

Sichen gazed thoughtfully up at the ceiling at a 45-degree angle, feeling even more dashing than before.

“Only I could be so brilliant.”

Sichen sighed softly to himself. Stepping out of the living room, he turned his head and found a petite girl in an orange hoodie drinking water.

Their eyes met, and both froze.

Before Sichen could speak, Chi Xiaocheng frowned, her eyes seeming to subtly narrow into cat-like vertical slits.

A faint hint of hostility seemed to linger in her gaze.

“Sichen, you just came out of Tao Tao’s room. Why aren’t you wearing any clothes?”

Sichen: "???"

I’ve gone to such lengths to show my loyalty to Cheng; how on earth can you ask such a question, full of jealousy and hostility?!

You two absurdly possessive lovebirds, that’s enough already, come on!

...

Back in her room, Su Tao stood by the window, gazing at the scenery outside. As she let out a long sigh of relief, a hint of melancholy settled in her heart.

On one hand, it was a feeling of helplessness at her own vulnerability.

On the other hand, she also had a feeling that Sichen seemed to be lying.

Xiaocheng also had something she was hiding from her.

Dongfang Yang’s gaze towards Xiaocheng had always seemed off.

For some reason, she felt that familiar sensation again, reminiscent of their confession by the lake in the amusement park.

After being with Xiaocheng.

It felt as if the whole world was against her, trying to steal her Xiaocheng.

Ye Liang died, and then Chu Lingfeng appeared.

Chu Lingfeng died, and then the Maid Chief arrived.

What after the Maid Chief?

Even when she occasionally held Chi Xiaocheng, she couldn’t draw the sense of security she longed for from the girl.

“I haven’t really done anything; I’ve just been waiting in the villa all this time, yet I still feel a bit weary.”

Su Tao pulled a chair to the window and sat down. Watching Sichen’s retreating figure as he left the villa, she suddenly paused again.

She slapped her forehead. “That’s right, I forgot to ask Sichen about those glasses he gave me.”

She had taken them out to think about them last time, but after Chi Xiaocheng interrupted her, she’d completely forgotten about them again.

“Never mind, it’s just a matter of putting on the glasses and then glancing at Xiaocheng, and I’ll understand everything, right?”

There wasn't anything else to do at the moment.

Su Tao then rose to her feet and went to the living room, where she found Chi Xiaocheng curled up on the sofa, nursing a cup of hot tea and watching television, her little legs swinging gently, utterly adorable.

Perhaps noticing a sound behind her, Chi Xiaocheng turned around, and upon seeing Su Tao, immediately broke into a sweet smile.

“Tao Tao, want to come watch TV together?”

Meeting her gaze, the girl likewise offered a blissful smile. “Xiaocheng, you go ahead and watch. I’m just going back to my room for a moment; there’s something I need to sort out.”

“Okay~”

After her obedient reply, Chi Xiaocheng continued to stare intently at the animation on the television.

When bored, she typically just watched anime to pass the time.

Yet, it was precisely this mundane, peaceful life that brought Su Tao a sense of ease.

“Mutual love…”

Su Tao’s smile broadened. After they became a couple, while their daily lives hadn’t changed much, the increasing intimacy in her relationship with Xiaocheng was clear for all to see.

At the very least, whenever Su Tao wanted a kiss, she merely had to beckon, and that adorable little one would readily come close.

If only this sense of security could last forever.

But no matter the time, an unspoken unease always lingered in her heart.

Perhaps it was all just an illusion.

Su Tao returned to her room and quickly found the black, antique-looking glasses, which lay in a drawer, covered by a cloth.

She put them on immediately.

“Are these just non-prescription glasses? I don’t feel anything unusual.”

But…

Do I need to go see Xiaocheng to understand how they work?

Su Tao adjusted the frames and stepped out of her room.
