A Complete Falling Out

Si Chen was in an awful mood, truly awful.

Ever since Su Tao handed him that small slip of paper three days ago, he, Dongfang Yang, Chi Song, and Brother Long had spent over two hours analyzing it.

The relics had to be fake.

Something was amiss with Lin Fangya and Xiao Ming; Ye Liang had hidden them away somewhere, as if they had vanished into thin air.

As for Chi Xiaocheng’s parents, the investigation revealed that Ye Liang had indeed sent people to try and abduct the elderly couple. However, Brother Long had already dispatched several of his subordinates to the couple’s hometown long ago. His original intention was that his subordinates, who had fought to build his empire and ended up losing limbs, were owed a debt by him as their boss. So he gave them a hefty sum of money and sent them to Chi Song’s hometown to retire, with the added task of looking after Chi Song’s parents. As luck would have it, the people Ye Liang sent this time ran directly into that group of subordinates. A large group of retired subordinates, now turned village ruffians, easily protected Chi Xiaocheng’s parents.

But the most pressing concern for them all was the news about Su Tao's father! Si Chen, after all, had been tracking Su Tao’s father for a long time, tirelessly digging for every scrap of information, and now Ye Liang had conveniently dangled this bait.

He began analyzing the slip day and night, making countless conjectures that the “Every Word Has You Hotel” was merely a front. Ye Liang would surely send Su Tao to a far more clandestine, dark, and dangerous location. He thus devised countless plans, ensuring that no matter where Su Tao was, they would know her situation immediately. Then send people to capture Ye Liang!

However, despite all of Si Chen’s meticulous planning, he never accounted for the possibility that Ye Liang was, in fact, an idiot!

He had actually, infuriatingly, taken Su Tao to the Every Word Has You Grand Hotel. Si Chen had been convinced that the hotel was a hundred percent a mere shell for a cover operation, so he’d only sent a few people for a cursory look, not even focusing his main efforts on its vicinity. By the time he realized his mistake and rapidly deployed his forces, Su Tao had already arrived at the hotel entrance in the driver’s car.

He told her to stall, not to enter the hotel.

She didn't listen.

She insisted on putting herself in harm’s way.

Now, his anxiety reached a fever pitch.

He continued to shout into his earpiece, “Su Tao, don’t do anything rash! Ye Liang is, after all, the eldest young master of the Ye family in the capital. While you might be able to defeat him, he has so many bodyguards. If you get caught and threatened, rescuing you will be incredibly difficult!”

Su Tao, however, stood before Ye Liang, her anger surging uncontrollably. “My apologies,” she said, “but I can’t help myself.”

Ye Liang raised an eyebrow, a hint of confusion in his voice. “What are you talking about?”

“Nothing.”

Su Tao replied, then turned and headed to the kitchen. The presidential suite was fully equipped, and since this was Ye Liang’s regular residence, a coffee machine was readily available. Su Tao set to work, boiling another kettle of scorching hot water. After a considerable delay, she emerged with a cup of coffee.

The scalding water sent up thick plumes of steam, making Ye Liang frown. “I usually prefer iced coffee,” he remarked. “Don’t tell me you forgot; there were ingredients for you in the fridge.”

Su Tao stood before Ye Liang, holding the coffee, and spoke coolly, “I just want to know one thing: why did you kill Xiaocheng?”

“Kill?” Ye Liang smiled and shrugged. “I’ve already told you, Lin Fangya did it. I never laid a hand on Chi Xiaocheng; I forgave her a long time ago.”

His face was still somewhat handsome, and such a smile, amplified by the protagonist’s halo, could indeed significantly boost his likeability. Paired with his wealthy persona, the average young woman might not have been able to resist him.

However, Ye Liang’s protagonist’s halo was long gone. His image in Su Tao’s eyes had long plummeted to rock bottom; that smile, to her, was utterly repulsive.

Su Tao said, “I’m asking again: why did you kill Xiaocheng?”

Her voice was now utterly cold.

Ye Liang frowned with displeasure. “What kind of attitude is that?!” He straightened up and slammed his palm onto the table. “I’ve already humbled myself to you, offering reconciliation, and you still bring up that Chi Xiaocheng? She’s dead— Ugh! Ahhhhh!”

Before he could finish speaking, the cup of scalding coffee in Su Tao’s hand was splashed onto his face. It wasn't just a mix of boiling water and coffee grounds; Su Tao had also poured a large amount of chili powder into the coffee. Accompanied by Ye Liang’s agonizing scream, half of his face instantly scalded crimson, his expression contorting into a grotesque mask.

Si Chen was still shouting into Su Tao’s earpiece.

However, the girl, her patience wearing thin, had already yanked off her earpiece and tossed it aside. Her voice was utterly cold. “Ye Liang,” she demanded, “I’m asking you one last time: why did you kill my Xiaocheng?!”

She was my only one!

With her enemy right before her, Su Tao felt she was being remarkably restrained just by attempting rational communication. Had this been during the first two days after Chi Xiaocheng’s death, the moment she saw Ye Liang, she would undoubtedly have lunged at him with a knife. Instead of now, tolerating his presence enough to converse with him. She gazed at his revolting face.

Ye Liang clutched his face in agony. Because the coffee contained a copious amount of chili powder, one of his eyes was swollen shut. His facial nerves, already sensitive, reacted intensely to the hybrid sensation of scalding heat and fiery spice, causing Ye Liang to contort completely, unable to maintain his previous composed demeanor.

He clutched the sofa, his face contorted like a demon. “Su Tao!” he snarled, “It seems you prefer a beating to a banquet! Do you really think I won’t touch you just because I’ve shown you some courtesy? Chi Xiaocheng is dead, and you still dare to mention that little hussy!”

Su Tao’s eyes suddenly deepened, seeming to glow with a crimson light. With a sharp zing, she drew a fruit knife hidden in her pocket and lunged directly at Ye Liang.

Ye Liang, however, had been prepared. Enduring the pain, he swiftly rolled behind the sofa, effortlessly evading Su Tao’s lunge. At the same time, he laughed loudly. “Hahahaha! Impatient already? I was still hoping to have a proper talk with you, but it seems there’s no need for that anymore. Yes, I sent people to kill Chi Xiaocheng. So what?”

Ye Liang stood behind the sofa, completely oblivious that due to the excessive force used, not only had the small knife pierced the sofa, but Su Tao’s hand had actually plunged into it. From the outside, it looked as if Su Tao had punched straight through the sofa. But from Ye Liang’s perspective, Su Tao had merely thrown herself at the sofa in an emotional frenzy. This kneeling-like posture only further inflamed his desire for conquest.

His words continued to spew forth.

“Su Tao, my dear Su Tao,” he continued, “if you hadn’t opposed me, with a face like yours, you could have easily been one of this young master’s concubines, living a life of luxury, with me buying you anything your heart desired. Countless women would kill for such a life of happiness. But you’re also so base, squandering the opportunity I gave you. What were you thinking, opposing this young master for Chi Xiaocheng? You don’t actually believe you, alone, can contend with my Ye family, do you?”

“Oh, that’s right, and Chi Xiaocheng.” Ye Liang seemed to recall something, a cold chuckle escaping his lips. “It’s truly a shame she died like that. After all, she was quite cute even without makeup. The taste of a young loli, I imagine, must have been rather delightful, wouldn’t you agree?”
