Chapter 262 Who Wants To Sleep In The Same Bed As You?
"It's nothing," Chi Xiaocheng said with a smile, not calling out Su Tao's little scheme. "Let's bring your things in first. I'll take this Grey Wolf back to my room."
As she spoke, she jumped up and grabbed the Grey Wolf doll from behind Su Tao. Still without her shoes or even slippers, just white socks covering her small feet, she hurried off toward her room.
Su Tao shook her head helplessly, changed her shoes, grabbed a pair of spare slippers, and followed.
"Xiaocheng, you know you still need to wear shoes, right?"
Walking through the living room to Chi Xiaocheng's door, she found Chi Xiaocheng standing there, frozen.
"What's wrong now? I hardly touched anything in your room," Su Tao said, her tone naturally tinged with a hint of pride.
This room was filled with wonderful memories of her and Chi Xiaocheng.
She had deliberately avoided moving anything, keeping everything arranged neatly.
Her aim was to allow Chi Xiaocheng to remember the good times when she came back.
The living room, bathroom, and kitchen all held some bad memories, but this room, at any time, was warm and peaceful.
She didn't want Xiaocheng to recall those painful memories, but she also wanted Xiaocheng to remember the good times they'd shared.
She was being a little selfish, really.
She wanted Chi Xiaocheng to forget the pain, to forget the yandere side of her.
At the same time, she wanted her to remember that deep love she had for her.
Su Tao knew that this extreme idea was unlikely to come true, but she couldn't help but fantasize and try to make it happen.
The room's layout was one of her attempts.
Every detail, big and small, was exactly as it had been when Chi Xiaocheng left two months ago.
That way, even if it triggered memories, they should be good ones, right?
She didn't notice that as Chi Xiaocheng stared blankly at the scene in the room, she painfully clutched her head.
After a long moment, she took a breath and reached out to steady herself on the doorframe, dropping the Grey Wolf doll to the floor.
The soft thud finally brought Su Tao back to her senses. She quickly turned around and supported the girl. "Xiaocheng, are you alright?"
"Tao... Su Tao-jie-jie..."
Chi Xiaocheng's tone was hesitant. She was still clutching her head, as if recalling something.
A look of joy flashed across Su Tao's face.
The first thing Xiaocheng had said was "Tao," not "Su Tao-jie-jie."
Could it be that for that split second, she had wanted to call her Taotao?
And the headache, did that mean she was remembering something from the past?
Su Tao slowed her breathing, hoping that the Xiaocheng she was supporting would throw her arms around her.
But she waited in vain.
Instead, Chi Xiaocheng looked up, her eyes clear again, and asked, "Su Tao-jie-jie, have you... have you been sleeping in my room all the time while I've been sick?"
It was Su Tao's turn to be stunned.
She asked in confusion, "What are you talking about, Xiaocheng? If I'm not sleeping in your room, where else would I sleep?"
Chi Xiaocheng frowned slightly. "Even though... even though we sometimes sleep together, it's not really appropriate to do it all the time. Su Tao-jie-jie, you should go back to Gege's room."
Su Tao's bewildered pupils widened in disbelief.
Almost instinctively, she retorted, "Xiaocheng, what do you mean, go to Gege's room? We've always slept together, haven't we? You..."
She was cut off by Chi Xiaocheng waving her hand.
She turned to face Su Tao, her eyes filled with the same confusion. "You're the strange one, Su Tao-jie-jie. We've always slept separately. You sleep in Gege's room, and I sleep in mine. We only sleep together once a week, maybe."
Her words were simple, as if stating a fact.
A distorted "fact" unique to Chi Xiaocheng's memory.
Su Tao understood what was happening. She could see why Chi Xiaocheng would say that.
But... why was this memory so wrong?
The memories of sleeping together were all good, not bad, and had nothing to do with her being a yandere, so why was even that distorted?
And what had Xiaocheng been thinking about when she came in and clutched her head in pain?
Su Tao couldn't figure it out. The sense of dissonance was growing stronger.
The Xiaocheng in front of her was still the familiar Xiaocheng from the hospital, not inexplicably hating her as she had before.
But she continued to speak in a very calm tone, "Alright, Su Tao-jie-jie, don't just stand there. You should put your pillow and things back in your room. Even though my room is a bit warmer, you can't just take it over!"
Hearing her words, Su Tao quickly composed herself, forcing a smile. "But I want to sleep with Xiaocheng. Can't I... can't I just leave my things here?"
"Besides, Chi Song-ge came home to stay for a while, so he's sleeping in his own room. That's why I moved into Xiaocheng's room."
Su Tao's brain was racing to come up with reasons.
She remembered what Dr. Cheng had said:
If she had an unexpected memory lapse, don't force her to remember, and don't dwell on the topic.
Go along with her memory first, make up a lie to fit it, and then analyze why it happened and figure out a countermeasure.
She couldn't let Xiaocheng think she was being clingy, and she couldn't distort her memories. Her brain working at lightning speed, Su Tao came up with the reason for Chi Song's return.
As soon as she said that, sure enough, Chi Xiaocheng's slightly furrowed brow smoothed out.
"Oh, I see."
Hearing the girl's voice, Su Tao quickly followed up. "Yeah... yeah, and I've gotten used to sleeping in Xiaocheng's room, so... so I won't move back, okay?"
"We used to sleep together, so we can just keep doing that."
Even though their relationship was gradually improving, if they couldn't even sleep together...
Su Tao bit her lip, looking at Chi Xiaocheng expectantly.
The greater the hope, the greater the disappointment.
Su Tao's hopes were dashed.
Chi Xiaocheng's tone was rejecting. "Let's not. We're not kids anymore. We should have some personal space. You can sleep in Gege's room, and I'll sleep in mine, like before."
She looked at the big brown bear doll in the corner. "You can take that doll back to your room, Su Tao-jie-jie."
Then she added, "If it ever breaks, you can just throw it away."
With that, Chi Xiaocheng went over to the big brown bear and moved it out of the way.
The spot where it had been was taken by the four-foot-tall Grey Wolf doll.
Chi Xiaocheng slowly turned around. "What's wrong, Su Tao-jie-jie? Do you need me to help you take your things out?"
The order to leave had been given.
Su Tao felt as if her breath had stopped.
The fleeting thought she had had earlier resurfaced in her mind.
Were she and Xiaocheng really getting closer?
Xiaocheng didn't hate her as much.
She would even call her Su Tao-jie-jie affectionately.
But now, she didn't even have the chance to sleep with Xiaocheng.
