Chapter 139: A Sudden Turn To Yandere, The Situation Rapidly Deteriorates
Early morning.
Su Tao felt exceptionally refreshed after a night of sound sleep.
“Hmm~”
Wearing a somewhat sheer nightgown, Su Tao sat up with her hands clasped, letting out an alluring sound.
She reached into the duvet, but didn't feel the warm, soft hair like a kitten's.
No, she did feel a cat.
Su Tao lifted the duvet and saw Dawang comfortably dozing, his eyes half-closed, his small tail flicking contentedly.
But it wasn't this cat she wanted to see.
“Where’s Xiaocheng?”
“She’s up even earlier than me, how novel.”
Normally, even if Xiaocheng was already awake when she woke up, she would still snuggle into her arms and just stare at her face.
All the while wearing a faint, endearing smile.
“What time is it now?”
Su Tao reached for her phone, then saw the two-person figurine on the nearby table.
The figure of her in a black gown forcefully poised to invade the figure of Chi Xiaocheng in a white princess dress.
Every time she looked at it, she felt as if the figurine was about to come alive.
“I’ll ask Xiaocheng about this figurine later. That kind of black gown doesn’t really suit me.”
Getting out of bed, she picked up a hair tie and held it in her mouth, then ran her hand through her long hair while looking for Chi Xiaocheng.
She wasn't in the living room, but the air conditioning, which Su Tao had turned off before bed last night, was already on.
Clearly, Chi Xiaocheng had woken up very early.
Now she was in... the kitchen?
Faint, trickling sounds drifted from the kitchen into Su Tao’s ears. The sounds were tiny, yet so distinct in the quiet living room.
She walked to the kitchen door and saw a small figure with her back to her, busying herself with something.
“Xiaocheng, what are you doing?”
“Making a new drink.”
“A drink?”
Chi Xiaocheng slowly turned around, a familiar, comforting and endearing faint smile on her lips.
But her eyes were unsettlingly strange.
Her cat-like vertical pupils were aggressive, emitting faint red light.
This created a sharp contrast with the comforting smile on her lips.
Yet, it didn't feel out of place at all.
Su Tao even had a feeling that the Chi Xiaocheng before her was the true Xiaocheng!
But what was even more frightening wasn't her expression, but one of her hands as she turned around.
That hand held an eerily familiar fruit knife, stained with fresh, crimson orange juice.
Like slime from a Western fantasy novel, drops of it pushed against each other, wriggling on the blade until they reached the tip.
Absorbing, merging.
With a “drip,” it fell straight to the floor.
It hit and splattered, scattering as if to engrave a crimson rose onto the floor tiles.
And precisely as she turned, her other hand hovered over a cup.
Drop after drop of orange juice fell into the cup.
A common cup holds 250ml.
Chi Xiaocheng was clearly nearing the end; more than half a cup of crimson orange juice was particularly glaring, estimated to be about 200ml.
She stood sideways, and the chilling sight reflected in Su Tao’s eyes made the faint smile on the latter’s lips freeze completely.
“Tao Tao, you’re awake. Did you sleep well last night?”
Chi Xiaocheng’s usual sweet voice reached Su Tao’s ears.
It should have been endearingly comforting.
For some who appreciate voices, it would have been heavenly.
But to Su Tao, it was piercingly jarring.
Awake?
Slept well?
Last night she was so well-behaved, sleeping cradled in her arms, without any apparent triggers. Why had she become like this after waking up?
Did she have a nightmare?
From well-behaved, she had once again turned yandere.
No no no no no!
This likely wasn't triggered by anything at all; it was completely different from her usual dark personality shifts!
The way she was now, it was more like…
She was actively displaying her yandere side.
As if she were softly telling her, “The me you see now, this is the real me~”
Su Tao’s brain, still not fully awake, was flooded with possibilities of why Chi Xiaocheng had changed like this again, yet she couldn't accept the scene before her.
Her sleeve was pulled up, revealing an arm that had gradually become fair and free of scars.
New marks had been added again.
And they were startlingly crimson!
She almost subconsciously repeated her earlier question, “Xiaocheng, what… what are you doing?”
Chi Xiaocheng twitched the arm that was still dripping 'orange juice', then casually wiped it with her other hand.
She smiled faintly, “Didn’t Tao Tao say she didn’t like orange juice with pulp? How about trying this one?”
“No… that’s not right, is it?”
“Hmm?” Chi Xiaocheng tilted her head. “What’s wrong? Tao Tao told me a long time ago that she wanted to drink my orange juice. But a month has passed, and Tao Tao hasn’t offered to let me give it to you even once.”
“You disliked that orange juice with pulp, but this red orange juice, you said you liked it.”
More than half a cup of crimson orange juice was raised before her.
She could even smell a rusty scent in the air.
If it was the orange-yellow juice with pulp, Su Tao might have been able to force herself to accept it.
But this cup of deep crimson orange juice made Su Tao feel dizzy and her stomach churn just by looking at it.
Red has always been the most visually impactful color.
When Su Tao belatedly realized what was happening, her back was already drenched in cold sweat.
Drink orange juice?
No, what was more important now was that Xiaocheng was hurting herself again!
Su Tao snatched the orange juice, placed it heavily on the counter, then grabbed Chi Xiaocheng's hand, intending to drag her out of the kitchen. "Come with me to get this bandaged first!"
“Bandaged?” Chi Xiaocheng’s voice faded slightly. “Why should it be bandaged?”
Su Tao’s pupils constricted. She found that she couldn't pull Chi Xiaocheng at all!
Despite usually being delicate, her strength at this moment was greater than Su Tao’s.
Su Tao grew anxious and couldn't accept Chi Xiaocheng doing this in front of her. She shouted, “Xiaocheng, what are you thinking? Why are you hurting yourself again? Didn’t I say I like you? I won’t abandon you!”
To her surprise, Chi Xiaocheng simply replied coldly, “Tao Tao, is the 'like' you speak of the one you pretended to feel?”
“What—?”
“I’ve said it before, haven’t I?” Chi Xiaocheng shook her hand, easily breaking free from Su Tao’s grip. “In that suicide note, I said I could feel Tao Tao’s perfunctoriness. Even after I woke up, Tao Tao still hasn’t changed.”
Su Tao took a step back, explaining frantically, “No, I’ve already…”
I’m already forcing myself to like you!
However, before she could finish speaking, she was sharply cut off by Chi Xiaocheng’s roar, “What excuse are you trying to fob me off with now?!”
Chi Xiaocheng was highly agitated.
Her vertical pupils brazenly revealed her possessiveness and regret.
The abrupt and utterly bewildering turn of events sent Su Tao’s heart plummeting.
She had originally anticipated various possibilities for Chi Xiaocheng after waking up: disappointment, anger, resentment, even turning into a dark yandere. These possibilities weren't absent.
They were merely delayed.
During her hospitalization, she had continuously hidden her emotions.
What she held in her heart was perhaps her last hope.
She hadn't been able to feel genuine affection from Su Tao.
And so, that hope had been shattered.
