Chapter 47 Since You'Re Already Here
Silent cold winds swept through the winter campus, dry branches swaying and rustling softly in the breeze.
Stepping out of the dormitory, Su Tao clearly felt that the sky was even more overcast than she had imagined.
Under thick grey tights, her boots crunched on the accumulated snow. Su Tao's gaze swept over the passersby, occasionally meeting the admiring looks of some girls.
Appealing to both men and women...
Su Tao couldn't help but recall what Si Chen had said to her.
In the past, she would never have misunderstood those glances.
But now, she couldn't ignore them.
Because one of those many girls was Chi Xiaocheng.
Was she *acting* like a yandere?
Or was it truly as Si Chen said, that a misunderstanding between us had caused her to become a *true* yandere?
She couldn't figure it out.
But the answer should be revealed today.
She first went to her counselor, and after requesting three days' leave, she went to find Ye Liang.
She took a taxi to his company building.
"Miss Su." The security guard recognized Su Tao and bowed slightly. "Are you here to see the young master?"
"Is Ye Liang free now?"
"I'm very sorry, Miss Su," the security guard replied. "Due to an unexpected incident, the young master flew to Lizhi City last night. He won't be back until tomorrow at the earliest."
"The young master asked me to inform you that the matter of your agreement is temporarily postponed. He'll get in touch when he's free."
Su Tao furrowed her delicate brows and pressed, "What happened?"
The security guard shook his head. "The young master didn't tell me either; he just asked you to wait."
"This guy..." Su Tao kicked the snow under her feet in dissatisfaction and pouted, but she swallowed her displeasure.
She said to the security guard, "Well, I won't bother you then. If Ye Liang comes back, please tell him to call me."
"Understood, Miss Su."
After bidding farewell to the security guard, Su Tao thought it over and still felt indignant. She bent down and scooped up a snowball.
As if the snowball were Ye Liang, she hurled it hard against the wall.
"Every single one of them, acting as they please, with no consideration for others."
At the last Yinlun banquet, she was the one who broke the appointment first, causing Ye Liang to waste a significant amount of money and connections. Becoming his maid for three days as compensation was something Su Tao had only agreed to under his persistent demands, having no other choice.
For these three days, she had humbly begged her colleagues at her part-time job to switch shifts and worked overtime.
She had concocted a string of excuses for her school counselor and had to sign a guarantee letter to get leave.
She also had to deal with the gossip that surfaced from time to time.
She even had to hide it from Chi Xiaocheng, imploring everyone who knew her not to reveal the matter.
Coupled with the mental stress from this yandere loli, Su Tao hadn't had a good night's sleep in several days.
She had originally planned to use this opportunity to test Chi Xiaocheng.
If she truly was a yandere, then she would follow Dr. Cheng's advice and put some effort into appeasing her.
If she wasn't a yandere but merely acting, then after they clarified things, she would go and be Ye Liang's maid.
But now, he had just up and left.
Su Tao tucked her hands into her pockets, pulled out her phone, and sighed deeply. "Forget it, maybe this is for the best. I can focus my attention on Xiaocheng. If she really is a yandere, and reacts to what I say..."
Su Tao recalled the scene of comforting Chi Xiaocheng at the hospital last time.
She murmured softly, "If I hug her and say some nice things, and then express my wishes, she'll go along with what I want, right?"
"Because she likes me, she'll listen to me?"
"From what I've read online, that's how it seems to work."
But Dr. Cheng said it was worth trying, so it must be fine!
Su Tao suppressed the unease in her heart.
Seeing the sky darken and rain approaching, she hurried towards Chi Xiaocheng's apartment complex.
"Boom—"
A muffled rumble of thunder echoed. As she neared the complex, Su Tao looked up at the sky, covered her head, and started to run.
"Oh, rain, slow down!"
She took large strides, finally entering Chi Xiaocheng's building just before the downpour.
Su Tao had barely stepped inside when the torrential rain began to fall.
The fierce wind seemed to want to drag her out of the building, blowing rain wildly through the entrance.
Seeing this, Su Tao quickly retreated a few steps further inside.
A lingering sense of dread.
The rain had come so suddenly and so heavily that even with an umbrella, she would likely be soaked on one side.
"Oh, right, I should tell Si Chen."
Su Tao turned and walked towards the elevator, simultaneously sending a message to Si Chen: "Si Chen, I'm going to Xiaocheng's place to try out that idea we talked about last time."
"Don't go!!!"
Si Chen replied instantly.
The three exclamation marks laid bare his fright.
Su Tao blinked in confusion. "Why? Have you already tested it, Si Chen?"
Last time, Si Chen had suggested two methods.
She hadn't agreed to the first one, which was why Si Chen would have gone to test it alone for her sake.
With no news, Su Tao had assumed Si Chen hadn't acted yet.
By the time he replied, Su Tao had already stepped into the elevator.
Si Chen: "Uh... actually, I've already tested it. How should I put it, Chi Xiaocheng is indeed a bit yandere."
Si Chen: "So you don't need to go. Provoking her like that, it wouldn't be good if it turned dangerous."
Su Tao: "Is that so? I always feel like you're hiding something from me."
The elevator doors opened. Su Tao slowly walked to Chi Xiaocheng's door, then glanced sideways at the tightly shut window on the other side.
The raging storm was like a giant hand, anxiously pounding on the window, as if telling her not to enter that door.
Si Chen: "I'm just worried about you."
Su Tao lowered her head and typed her reply: "It's fine, since I'm already here."
"If anything happens, you can call me then."
After sending that last message to Si Chen, Su Tao stopped looking at her phone and tucked it into her pocket.
She reached up with her index finger to adjust her bangs, then pressed the doorbell.
"Ding-dong~"
The door opened, and a playful lock of matcha-colored hair peeked out, followed by a small face so cute it was almost against the rules.
As if to confirm whether the person at the door was a bad guy, the small head poked out just a little.
Upon seeing Su Tao, her face lit up with surprise. "Taotao!"
"Come in, quickly, quickly, it's cold outside."
The joyful, soft voice warmed Su Tao's heart.
Thinking of those wealthy young men she was friendly with, who would only ask "Are you alright?" when concerned, Xiaocheng was simply an angel by comparison.
She looks so normal; how could she be a yandere?
Su Tao lifted her boots slightly and stepped through the doorway. "Xiaocheng, you have the air conditioning on. It's so warm."
*Because I knew you were coming today~*
Chi Xiaocheng smiled inwardly, not answering, but instead produced a pair of slippers. "Let's change your shoes first. Then I'll pour you a cup of hot tea, Taotao. It's windy and rainy outside; you must be freezing, right?"
Without further ado, she took one of Su Tao's hands, cupped it, and brought it to her mouth.
She gently blew a warm breath onto it.
Her cute, pretty face looked up again, displaying that foolishly content smile. "Warm now, right?"
Looking at Chi Xiaocheng like this, Su Tao felt a sudden pang in her chest.
She's so good to me. If I tell her about Ye Liang and the maid thing in a bit, she'll probably be very sad, won't she?
It's a little... hard to do.
But no one knew if this adorable facade was real or an act.
Was cuteness her true nature?
Or was the yandere her true nature?
Sorry, Xiaocheng!
Su Tao's heart firmed. Her small feet, clad in slippers, walked further into the room.
She didn't notice Chi Xiaocheng standing by the door, a faint smile on her lips, as she reached out and pressed a button on the electronic lock.
The sound of a turning mechanism whirred.
The door was locked from the inside.
