Chapter 71: It'S Not The Steamed Bun I Like, It'S You
At 8 AM, Chi Xiaocheng purposefully skipped breakfast, planning to leave early for school to find Su Tao, sneak into her dorm, and give her a surprise hug.
But what she didn't expect was that Su Tao was even earlier than her.
Just as she arrived in the living room and took a sip of hot water, the doorbell rang.
Chi Xiaocheng didn't even need to open the door; Su Tao, whose fingerprint had been registered long ago, opened it herself and walked in.
"Xiaocheng, I'm here!"
They had agreed to a date on Friday, and she was more punctual than anyone.
Su Tao tapped the light snow from her boots, and just as she was about to step inside, she froze. "Chi Song?!"
Su Tao's voice was a mix of surprise and delight, but when she caught sight of Chi Song's missing arm, her heart involuntarily tightened.
Chi Song smiled faintly. "Had a bit of an accident while out making a living, but it's nothing serious. It's been so many years, Xiaotao, you've gotten prettier and prettier."
Su Tao's face flushed slightly with embarrassment. "Chi Song, stop teasing me. How could you say I'm pretty? I'm just…"
Before she could finish, Chi Song nodded in satisfaction. "You're so pretty, and my little sister is adorable too. You two look great together."
A young woman and a loli. It was quite a beautiful sight.
With so much happening these past few days, Su Tao had almost forgotten the question Chi Song had sent her last time.
"Do you like my little sister?" What kind of brother tries to set up two girls?
But Su Tao knew Chi Song was incredibly straightforward; maybe he really did think that way.
Her smile instantly turned a bit awkward.
Chi Song laughed heartily. "You two have been like this since childhood, what's wrong with it? Alright, you two chat, I have things to do and need to head out."
Watching Chi Song leave, Su Tao then turned her attention back to the living room, only to realize that Chi Xiaocheng had, at some point, appeared right in front of her.
She was looking down, staring intently at the thick warm tights on Su Tao's legs.
Considering she was going out today, Su Tao wore a light pink wool coat over a simple white turtleneck sweater, warm and comfortable. Her lower half consisted of a pair of beige thermal tights paired with brown ankle boots, the smooth lines making her legs appear long and slender.
A glance confirmed it: they were delectable.
Su Tao felt a bit uneasy under Chi Xiaocheng's intense gaze. She moved to the side, shyly rubbing her knees. "Xi-Xiaocheng, what's wrong?"
Chi Xiaocheng slowly raised her head to look at Su Tao. "You're going out like that?"
"I-is there something wrong with that?"
Though not overly fashionable, it was a fairly normal outfit for the present time.
To her surprise, Chi Xiaocheng very seriously pointed at Su Tao's thighs, clad in thick tights. "This, you can't let others see!"
"Huh?"
Chi Xiaocheng took a step closer, almost pressing against Su Tao. "Anything above your neck, and your hands. No short skirts either. This is the absolute most you can show when we're outside!"
Seeing those crimson eyes gradually turn resentful, Su Tao swallowed hard and nodded slightly.
This was the yandere's possessiveness! And also the yandere's illness.
The next second, Chi Xiaocheng displayed the 'cute' side of her yandere nature.
Her pretty face cupped in her hands, her earlobes slightly red, she said shyly, "Of... of course, if we're at home, Taotao can wear anything you like, I... I'll like it all."
The stark difference before and after made her seem like a completely different person. Yet, it was undeniably cute—the contrast of fiercely spouting love confessions one moment and then blushing shyly the next.
The tension dissipated, and Su Tao couldn't help but let a smile play on her lips.
With her hands on her hips, she pointed at Chi Xiaocheng. "What about you, Xiaocheng? Aren't you dressed like that too?"
Today, Chi Xiaocheng was wearing a newly bought down coat, its hem reaching all the way to her calves, and on her legs, she also had a pair of thick thermal tights.
Chi Xiaocheng looked up and giggled. "I'm wearing it for you to see, Taotao. Do you like it?"
She lifted the hem of her coat and twirled lightly in place, as if she wasn't wearing a coat but a skirt.
Su Tao gave a soft huff. "Since you won't let me go out dressed like that, I won't let you go out dressed like that either!"
Chi Xiaocheng paused, then raised her adorable smiling face, revealing her tiny, pointed canine teeth. "Okay~ Taotao is mine, and I'm Taotao's!"
They exchanged a look. Neither could hold back, and they both burst into light laughter.
In their merriment, one was utterly content, while the other carried a hint of shyness.
This was just shopping, just pretending to go on a date with her. Su Tao thought to herself, and together with Chi Xiaocheng, she changed into a pair of long pants.
Her precious, treasure-like legs were hidden away.
Su Tao turned her head and asked, "Xiaocheng, where do you want to go today?"
"I'll follow Taotao's lead~"
"I knew you'd say that." Su Tao pulled out her phone and glanced at the plans and itinerary she had prepared the night before.
She walked into the elevator with Chi Xiaocheng, saying, "You haven't had breakfast yet, right? So let's go get breakfast together first, then head to Dongfang Yang's coffee shop and stay there for the morning. You can't just keep skipping your shifts there."
"What about after that?"
"The weather forecast says it'll snow in the afternoon, so how about we go to a cat cafe this afternoon? I feel like Xiaocheng and cats would be a perfect match. Then in the evening, we can go shopping at the commercial complex."
"Okay~"
Chi Xiaocheng naturally didn't mind Su Tao's plans. With a smile on her face, she took Su Tao's hand and walked out.
On the street, she walked ahead, her index finger pointing towards some snow-covered scene in the distance as she chattered about something.
Su Tao was half-pulled along behind her, nodding occasionally, a look of doting affection and helplessness on her face.
Chi Xiaocheng seemed to constantly be aware of what was behind her; whenever Su Tao looked at her, she would turn around at just the right moment. A smile would grace her lips. Pure and healing.
It was as if ripples passed through her eyes, and Su Tao saw vivid images from her childhood flash before her.
Wasn't Chi Xiaocheng just like this back then? After preparing a gift, she would take Su Tao's hand and lead her to all sorts of mysterious places, as if guiding her forward.
In reality, those so-called gifts...
...might have been a flower wreath she wove, a small figure she molded from mud, a lollipop she secretly bought, or sometimes, just a smile.
Such was the power of memories stirred by familiar sights.
In the blink of an eye. It seemed as if everything had changed, and yet nothing had changed at all. She had grown up. And in her eyes, there was now more fondness and love.
"Steamed bun, want some?"
In a daze, Chi Xiaocheng held a bamboo skewer, offering a soup dumpling.
Su Tao broke into a relaxed smile, brushed aside the hair near her cheek, leaned in, and took a bite.
A row of faint silver teeth marks appeared. She ate half of it.
As for Chi Xiaocheng, she hummed a little tune and popped the other half into her mouth, clearly enjoying it.
Su Tao smiled faintly. "Xiaocheng, do you really like soup dumplings?"
Chi Xiaocheng gently shook her head. "Not really, this shop's soup has too much broth, and the flavor is too strong."
"Then why are you eating it with such relish? Are you hungry?"
"Silly Taotao." Chi Xiaocheng turned around helplessly, her gaze tender as she looked at Su Tao. "It's never been the soup dumplings I like, it's always been you~"
Suddenly, Su Tao froze.
A gentle breeze swept past, carrying tiny flakes of snow, rustling Su Tao's hair. And stirring her heart.
