Chapter 129 127. Mind Reading
Since it was the last day of the sports meet, there were clearly far fewer students watching the events than on the previous two days.
Su Peng kept his muscles tense, his gaze occasionally flicking toward An Han’s movements, afraid that he’d end up embarrassing himself in public because of one of her pranks.
Back on the commercial street, he hadn’t been worried about An Han’s pranks and could accept them calmly. After all, it was hard to run into familiar classmates there—even if he made a fool of himself, at worst a few strangers would glance his way. But this was on campus now.
She hadn’t bought any drinks, wasn’t holding anything strange, and didn’t seem to be planning to trip him. The only thing to watch out for was whatever was bulging in her pockets.
Maybe it was another prank prop.
Su Peng’s mind wasn’t on the relay race happening in front of him at all. Instead, he was already considering whether he should strike first and catch her off guard.
He had to admit, the scent on An Han was incredibly intoxicating.
For some reason, ever since their encounter in the small garden yesterday morning, he’d noticed that An Han’s appearance seemed to be coated in a kind of beautifying filter—more vivid and alluring. That aura had become even more captivating, drawing him in uncontrollably.
Gender didn’t really matter anymore…
“Why are you staring at me instead of watching the race?” An Han shot him a glance, displeased, crossing her arms and stepping back.
Not yet.
Why is this guy so on guard?!
An Han considered switching targets, but she was extremely curious about what Su Peng—whose favorability toward her was at a full hundred—was actually thinking when he interacted with her.
At the moment, aside from Su Peng, there was no one else whose favorability toward her exceeded eighty.
She felt like a leopard preparing to hunt, already eyeing Su Peng intently, just waiting for the moment he revealed a flaw.
She needed to find something to distract him.
An Han looked around and eventually spotted Wang Yu on the track.
“Wang Yu? He actually has a race too?”
Su Peng asked casually, “Isn’t he your club president?”
“Yeah. He’s also the president of the e-sports club. He’s really good at games, in great shape, and pretty handsome too—”
Her words abruptly cut off. Seeing Su Peng’s expression darken rapidly, she tactfully shut her mouth.
This guy is insanely jealous!
I was just saying it casually.
“How’s your relationship with him?” Su Peng asked instead.
“Pretty good, I guess? If I ask him to help with something, he usually does…”
“I can help you too.”
Heh, men!
Noticing that Su Peng’s attention had completely shifted to Wang Yu, An Han quickly called out in her heart to the system.
System! Advanced mind reading!
The same sensation as before washed over her, as if something were peeling away from every part of her body and converging in her brain, sending waves of coolness through her head.
【Mind Reading activated successfully
Mind Reading: You will randomly hear the target’s thoughts】
Random?! What the hell is “advanced” about that?!
The next moment, An Han heard Su Peng’s inner voice.
‘That guy doesn’t even look that great. What’s so handsome about him? My wife has never even said I’m handsome!’
Su Peng was still hung up on what An Han had just said, but she heard his thoughts loud and clear. Grinding her teeth, she started sizing up his body, considering where it would hurt most to kick him.
Wife, my ass!
An Han’s face had been lit up with joy at the successful activation, but that smile quickly stiffened.
Su Peng seemed to sense something and turned his head to look at her curiously.
Already feeling guilty, An Han grew even more unsettled—worried both about being discovered using mind reading and about being seen through as a woman.
‘My wife wouldn’t actually be into Wang Yu, right?’
Fortunately, she caught Su Peng’s thoughts again, letting her breathe a sigh of relief.
Good thing he didn’t figure out I’m a girl…
She realized this skill was actually pretty useful. Even though she could only hear a sentence every few seconds, it was enough to roughly grasp Su Peng’s mental state.
Using it later during negotiations with Ren Chi would give her the upper hand too.
Feeling reassured, An Han decided to ask Su Peng what he thought of her.
But when she looked up, she found his gaze suddenly filled with surprise and delight—an expression so complex it was like he’d gotten into a car accident one moment and won the lottery the next.
What’s going on? Did I expose something again? I didn’t, right?
An Han froze for a moment, but still followed the plan, asking casually, “Su Peng, what do you usually think of me?”
The delight on Su Peng’s face immediately vanished, replaced with visible nervousness.
Carefully choosing his words, he said, “You’re pretty lively. Kind of a mood-maker, I guess?”
“Really?” An Han looked at him scrutinizingly.
Under the scrutiny of those big eyes, Su Peng grew even more nervous, afraid of saying the wrong thing and upsetting her. He decided to go with something she might like to hear. “You’re pretty handsome. Just a bit short.”
‘For a girl, you’re actually still pretty tall—but tall girls have amazing legs!’
An Han pretended she hadn’t heard his inner thoughts and smiled happily. “Really?”
“Yeah.”
So you wish I were shorter?
She didn’t hear the vulgar thoughts she’d expected, and her mood stayed fairly good. Just then, the starting gun for the relay race fired, and she immediately craned her neck to look at the track, watching the figures sprint past.
Wang Yu worked out diligently, but his speed wasn’t impressive. After the handoff, his team had already fallen several positions behind first place.
An Han silently cheered for Wang Yu while keeping her ears perked, hoping to catch more thoughts.
‘Should I hold my wife’s hand? But this is school—holding hands might not be appropriate.’
She instinctively shoved both hands into her pockets and continued watching the race.
About a minute later, the results were announced. Wang Yu’s class only took third place.
“What a pity,” An Han muttered. “Wang Yu’s teammates weren’t great. If it were you, at least second place would’ve been guaranteed.”
‘Wang Yu is such a loser!’
Ignoring the slander she heard, she touched the sanitary pad in her pocket and turned to Su Peng. “I’m going to the bathroom.”
It had been three or four hours—time to change it.
Su Peng nodded with a stiff expression.
“Are you in a bad mood?” she asked.
“No.”
‘I’m over the moon. Hold it in, hold it in!’
If you’re happy, why are you holding it in?
An Han shot him a strange look. The randomness of the mind reading was really annoying—she couldn’t make sense of why he was happy at all.
He’d been unhappy when Wang Yu was mentioned earlier. Was he gloating because Wang Yu didn’t get first place?
She didn’t dare linger and hurried off in small steps, afraid that moving too much might cause leakage.
As Su Peng watched her retreating figure, a puzzled expression finally appeared on his face. He scratched his head and muttered to himself.
“An Han is a girl? And she even got her period these past couple of days?”
“That’s some next-level hiding… No wonder her chest keeps getting bigger…”
