Chapter 69 069. Sports Meet Sign-ups

Nov 25, 2025 1,508 words

"First place in the sports meet gets 500 yuan, second place 300, and third place 100."  "Everyone who participates will receive conduct points, which count toward your scholarship—very important!"
"Sign up with the class monitor after class."

This was Ren Chi's first time holding a class meeting for this class. Glancing around, the only faces familiar to him were An Han and the two class monitors (male and female).

Right now, however, An Han was whispering and chatting with his dormmates.

Ever since Wang Yu joined their team, their recreational e-sports squad finally had its full starting lineup.

"My online friend already agreed," Wang Sheng said cheerfully. "As long as the remaining two aren't complete dead weight and actually listen to instructions, our team’s got some real potential."

An Han nodded absently. He’d received a task when trying to recruit Wang Yu—and had already completed it—but still hadn’t gotten any reward.
*Looks like I really found a system loophole!*

His joy was plain on his face, and the sweet smile made Wang Sheng mistakenly think he was just happy about Wang Sheng’s good news.

【Wang Sheng’s affection +7】

An Han glanced at him, already expecting the affection boost.
*Just don’t let all my high-affection friends end up falling for me...*

His excitement quickly faded. Suddenly, it felt like he was playing a dating sim—him as protagonist, "grooming" one target after another.
Unlike typical dating sims, though—everyone he interacted with was male... at least he was currently male. And aside from one time flirting with Su Peng, he’d never actively tried boosting anyone else’s affection.

"By the way, are any of you signing up for the sports meet?" Not wanting to dwell on these negative thoughts, he tried to drag one of his roommates into this mess. "Bro Long, you should enter shot put or something—you’d be a beast!"

"Better to stay in the dorm with the AC on," Long Xing shook his head.

An Han knew that if he used a bit of cute wheedling, Long Xing might agree—but with a roommate he saw every day, he just couldn’t bring himself to act like that.
He’d only managed to lower his guard with Wang Yu because Wang Yu didn’t overlap much with his usual social circle.

"How about you, Wang Sheng?"

"Now that our squad’s complete, even if we don’t have matches soon, I still need to practice with them regularly," Wang Sheng offered a reasonable excuse.

As for Chen Junjie—An Han hadn’t even considered trying to convince him.

"Then... any chance the E-sports Club will hold a tournament soon?" An Han brought up the more pressing issue.
He didn’t want to drag this task out forever.

"Well..." Wang Sheng scratched his head in frustration. "Probably not. The school just started military training, and after that comes the sports meet. Even if they wanted to run a tournament, it wouldn’t happen until November at the earliest."

An Han slumped onto his desk, chin resting on the tabletop, gazing wistfully at Ren Chi up front.
*I wonder if Ren Chi’s got any good ideas...*
*If not, I guess I’ll just have to wait until some random internet café in this city decides to hold a tournament. At least the task has no deadline—maybe I’ll finish it in ten or twenty years.*
*By then, that limited-edition PS5 might even increase in value!*

"That’s all for today. If you want to sign up, you can go see the monitor now," Ren Chi concluded his lengthy speech.

Students cheered and rushed out—but An Han turned to look at An Kexin and saw only two or three classmates around her signing up.
Clearly, the pep talk hadn’t worked. Only the usual crowd from past years was signing up again.

An Kexin was the female class monitor—an inconspicuous presence among the guys, since the male students mostly dealt with their male vice monitor.
That’s why An Han only properly remembered this classmate (who happened to share his surname) during the Top Ten Singers competition.
After all, he rarely had any interaction with girls.

"Let’s go," someone said.

"Hold on—I’m gonna sign up."

"Seriously?!" Chen Junjie dramatically took a step back and yelled, "You’re actually signing up for the sports meet? You should enter a beauty pageant instead!"
"I swear I’ll vote for you as next year’s campus flower!"

His obnoxious teasing made An Han instinctively kick out.

"Ah~"

It wasn’t even a hard kick—just left a white shoeprint on Chen Junjie’s pants—but the guy wailed as if grievously injured, stumbling backward into a desk, clutching his chest with one hand while pointing accusingly at An Han, soda dribbling from the corner of his mouth.

"Childish!"

An Han suppressed a laugh and rolled his eyes, turning away toward An Kexin.

Chen Junjie, who’d been hamming it up like a seasoned drama actor, froze in place as that dismissive glance hit him like a bolt of unexpected charm. He stood there dumbfounded, watching An Han walk away.

*Since when did An Han get so... pretty?*

Sure, An Han’s appearance had become more feminine, but he’d never seemed outright beautiful before. Even judged by female standards, An Han was just a skinny guy with decent skin—nothing extraordinary.
Yet now, every little expression seemed oddly captivating, effortlessly lifting people’s moods—or even quickening their heartbeats.

Bewildered, Chen Junjie turned to Long Xing and asked, "Isn’t An Han a little too...?"

He couldn’t quite say "beautiful," but Long Xing immediately clenched his fists.

Still oblivious, Chen Junjie scratched his head. "It kinda felt like my goddess just gave me a flirtatious look..."

Long Xing threw an arm around him and gave a sinister smile.

"Bro Long, easy—your grip’s hurting my shoulder."

"We’re heading back. No idea how long An Han’s gonna be," Long Xing dragged him away, terrified Chen Junjie might also develop feelings for An Han.

He’d barely started grappling with the idea of liking another guy—but clearly, he couldn’t afford to drag his feet anymore. It used to be no competition... but An Han was getting more and more alluring by the day. Soon, there’d be crowds chasing after him.
*Except... An Han’s a guy.*

With a conflicted sigh, Long Xing lamented his impossible crush.

Meanwhile, An Han stood beside An Kexin, completely unaware of Long Xing’s inner turmoil.

"Sign me up for the 100-meter sprint."

He leaned over to peek at the sign-up sheet on An Kexin’s desk and asked Su Peng beside her, "Besides the 3000 meters, what else are you signing up for?"

"Long jump," Su Peng replied casually, lounging against the desk.

A group of girls nearby were giggling and whispering about Su Peng’s looks. An Han glanced over and saw their utterly infatuated expressions.

*Shallow! All you care about is looks!*
*Look at me! Sure, I’m a little girly now—but I’m still handsome, okay?!*

"You two are all set," An Kexin said, looking up with a smile. "An Han, just the one event?"

"One’s enough."

"Why not sign up for a fun event too? Like the two-person three-legged race?"

An Han blinked. "Fun events? I’ve never heard of those before."

"That’s because you never pay attention," Su Peng chimed in, quick to tease.

An Han shot him a glare, summoning all the authority of a master: "Call me ‘Master’!"

"Yeah, yeah..." Su Peng relented half-heartedly.

"You two would be perfect for that," An Han suggested to An Kexin, already scheming to set them up.

"Oh, no way!" An Kexin laughed brightly—clearly delighted by An Han’s comment. "You two are way more suited for it!"

"Then it’s settled. Sign Su Peng and me up," Su Peng declared without hesitation.

An Kexin’s smile froze.

"And scratch my 100-meter entry," An Han added.
