Chapter 195 193. A Date

Jan 17, 2026 1,440 words

Su Peng cradled the bowl of porridge in his hands, sitting on the bed with one leg crossed over the other. His eyes were smiling as he looked at An Han, curious to see where her unexplainable confidence came from.

She couldn’t even cut ginger properly, and she wanted to slice silken tofu?

An Han unpacked a cylindrical item from the delivery box. After examining it briefly, she picked out a cylindrical block of Japanese tofu from the ingredients she had bought that morning.

She filled a bowl with water, inserted the tofu from the top of the cylinder, and within less than two minutes, the tofu passed through the blades inside, turning into fine strands that fell neatly into the water.

“……”

Her brows and eyes were full of amusement as she handed the bowl to him. “Look, like this, right? It’s thin enough, isn’t it?”

Su Peng froze. He stared blankly at the fine strands in the bowl, then looked up at An Han’s smiling face.

“Isn’t this… kind of cheating?”

“How is it cheating?” An Han shook her head vigorously, her small face moving side to side. “I didn’t ask anyone else to help me. How is that cheating?”

“What is that thing, anyway?”

She finally couldn’t hold back her grin. Watching his expression closely, she answered, “A Japanese tofu shredding mold. Twenty yuan.”

Su Peng looked stunned. He had never imagined something like that existed.

“I originally wanted to buy semi-finished stuff online last night, but then I found this. It’s pretty handy—cuts really thin~”

An Han’s eyes curved into crescents as she pulled out another small box, delivering the final blow. “And this is the concentrated soup base I mentioned earlier. Just toss it into water and boil it—it counts as stock. The hardest knife work and the most troublesome stock are both solved.”

“Admit defeat, Su Peng!”

Su Peng’s expression grew even stranger. He scratched his head, genuinely not expecting so many tricks.

He looked up at An Han, who was standing there with her hands on her hips, looking smug. With a helpless sigh, he set down his breakfast and raised both hands. “Alright, you win.”

Strictly speaking, this version of Wensi tofu was definitely cheating, but he had no intention of nitpicking.

Better than making An Han unhappy.

“See? Wouldn’t it have been better to surrender earlier!”

An Han was overjoyed. Only after she turned her back to Su Peng did she secretly let out a breath of relief.

After all, Wensi tofu also required mushrooms and greens to be cut into strands just like the tofu—and her knife skills were nowhere near good enough. That mold could only cut tofu.

She casually poured the tofu shreds into the pot and stopped talking about the tofu altogether, instead demanding her reward. “We agreed—you’re treating me to a meal!”

“Where do you want to eat?” Su Peng had already finished his porridge and set the bowl aside.

In his mind, he ran through the city’s high-end restaurants.

“Barbecue!”

“That works.” Su Peng nodded with a smile. “Then let’s pick a time to go eat. We can stroll around near the restaurant too.”

“Restaurant?”

His smile stiffened. “Then what do you mean…?”

“Ordering takeout.” An Han leaned her hip against the table, arms crossed, and asked disdainfully, “You’re not seriously thinking of taking me to some steakhouse, are you? Sure, it tastes good, but I’m not used to it—and it’s expensive.”

She said matter-of-factly, “Besides, I’m lazy. Going all that way just for a meal is such a waste. Eating at home is much better. The money you save is better spent on games or clothes.”

Su Peng let out a soft sigh. He had thought An Han was shy and deliberately using the bet to push things toward a date.

Turns out he was overthinking it.

“You don’t want barbecue?” An Han misunderstood his reaction and frowned slightly. “But I’ve been craving it for a long time…”

“I’ve been stuck in this rental all these days—I’m going numb. I want to go out to eat.”

“Then eat barbecue at a restaurant…” She hesitated, her cheeks faintly tinged with red.

She was well aware that going out with Su Peng could easily turn into a date—that was why she had wanted to order takeout at home. But he wasn’t wrong either. Staying cooped up in the rental while sick really did make one feel stupid.

“…Alright.” She nodded reluctantly, though a quiet sense of joy slowly rose in her heart.

It was just eating out with Su Peng, yet she couldn’t understand why she felt happy.

Maybe she really had started to like this guy?

“Then I’ll look for a well-reviewed barbecue place nearby?”

“Don’t pick one that’s too expensive,” An Han added. “It’ll hurt to eat.”

“Why would you feel bad about spending my money?” Su Peng teased, lifting his head. “Don’t tell me you already consider my money yours?”

Looks like his illness really was almost better.

Even though he caused trouble most of the time, the medicine from the hospital had clearly worked.

An Han rolled her eyes at him and glanced at the pot of tofu soup simmering away.

No matter how you looked at it, that thing couldn’t confidently be called Wensi tofu…

“So shall we go now?” Su Peng stood up, looking unusually eager.

An Han froze. She had planned to let Su Peng rest properly this weekend and think about eating out next week. She hadn’t expected him to be this impatient.

She wasn’t ready yet!

Going out to eat with Su Peng—she couldn’t possibly go dressed in men’s clothes, all sloppy like this!

At the very least, she needed to ask Lin Yi to help her with makeup and borrow a pretty outfit.

She shook her head in slight panic. “I’m busy today~”

Su Peng stopped at the doorway and turned back to her, puzzled. “Busy?”

She looked pretty free, actually.

“Yes!” An Han nodded emphatically. “Busy! You snored last night and I didn’t sleep well, so after making you breakfast, I’m going to catch up on sleep!”

She found a perfectly reasonable excuse.

“At noon you can order takeout yourself. I’ll probably sleep until four or five in the afternoon!”

“Then tonight,” Su Peng said naturally. “You won’t be busy tonight, right?”

Since they were both free now, he didn’t want to wait until next week—just in case An Han suddenly changed her mind again.

The chances of this girl flipping moods were way too high. A bad mood or some random issue, and she’d refuse the date—or even distance herself from him.

Now that An Han seemed to have developed some feelings for him, he didn’t want to miss the chance.

“But… but…”

An Han still felt extremely reluctant to go on a date dressed in men’s clothes.

When she wore men’s clothes, she subconsciously still thought of herself as a man, which made dating another man feel uncomfortable. When she wore women’s clothes, that sense of resistance disappeared.

[Option One: Reject the date invitation. Reward: Advanced Level 6 culinary skill.]
Option Two: Delay until next week, accept the invitation after dressing up and wearing women’s clothes. Reward: Makeup skill.
Option Three: Accept the invitation immediately. Reward: Random attribute points.]

As usual, whenever there was drama, the system rushed in to spectate.

An Han’s gaze went blank for a moment as she quickly scanned the three options.

They all looked tempting…

Option one’s cooking skill would at least allow her to properly make medicinal meals for Su Peng next time he got sick.
Option two matched her own thoughts, and the reward was something she genuinely wanted.
Option three was Su Peng’s wish.

“Don’t overthink it.”

Just as she hesitated, Su Peng suddenly stepped forward, grabbed her wrist, and dragged her toward the door. “Why think so much? It’s just a meal!”

“It’s not just a meal!”

An Han shook her head in panic.

This was clearly a date!
