Chapter 341 338. Taking the Blame

Apr 03, 2026 1,507 words

An Han stood there awkwardly, the steps she had intended to take to stop him freezing in place.

Feeling terribly guilty, she lowered her head and sighed.

It was practically the same feeling as when some little notebook she secretly kept, or some adult product she had collected, was accidentally discovered by family members while they were cleaning. Her face was already burning with embarrassment, almost hot enough to smoke.

Her father’s eyesight was way too good—he had opened the wardrobe and immediately spotted that backless sweater.

She had originally planned to use something like “men and women should keep their distance” to get her father to leave, but he clearly didn’t think there was anything wrong with rummaging through his daughter’s wardrobe.

Bracing herself, she explained stiffly, “I was just curious… bought it for fun…”

He’s going to think his daughter is some kind of pervert now, isn’t he?

An Han stared anxiously at the tips of her shoes, her heart imagining all sorts of consequences if her father discovered that his daughter had such “dirty” thoughts.

Being a little naughty like that was normal for everyone, right?

She muttered angrily in her heart, but she didn’t dare actually say it out loud.

“That brat Su Peng!” Her father’s chest rose and fell in anger. He threw the sweater onto the bed, rolled up his sleeves, and stormed out of the room.

An Han, who had been ready to endure her father’s scolding, was stunned.

What did that sweater have to do with Su Peng?

If anyone should be blamed, it should be the system that gave the reward...

She stared blankly as her father left the bedroom. Curiosity got the better of her, and she crept over quietly, tiptoeing to the doorway. Grabbing the doorframe with both hands, she poked her head out to watch.

Su Peng had heard An Han’s voice from the bedroom earlier and looked back in that direction with some confusion.

Not thinking much of it, he added another bite of food to his bowl and continued eating with a bitter expression.

Looks like I should go out and hide for a while.

His future father-in-law’s prejudice against him was way too deep.

Heavy footsteps approached. Su Peng looked up, still wearing a flattering, ingratiating smile. “Uncle, stop cleaning for a moment and eat first.”

Her father glared angrily into Su Peng’s eyes.

Earlier he had sworn that he had never even touched a single hair on An Han’s head—so what was with that obviously seductive sweater?

Not touching her, just looking, huh? Only his silly daughter would believe something like that!

“Uncle?”

Su Peng felt a chill run down his back. Every hair on his arm stood on end, and his animal instinct for danger instantly sent adrenaline surging through him.

“What’s wrong?”

His smile stiffened helplessly. Under that gaze—like a ferocious tiger staring at him—he grew increasingly uneasy.

What happened? What did I do wrong? Why is Uncle angry?

“And you still need me to say it?”

Seeing his innocent, confused expression only made her father even angrier.

“???”

Her father opened his mouth but was so furious that he couldn’t get any words out. Pointing toward the door, his anger nearly spilling over, he shouted, “Get out!”

Su Peng didn’t even dare ask. He quickly stood up. “I’ll go, I’ll go. Don’t be angry. It’s bad for your health.”

Seeing the look in his future father-in-law’s eyes—as if he wanted to devour him—he didn’t dare say another word. Completely baffled, he rolled out of the apartment, gently closed the door, and sighed as he sat down on the staircase in the hallway.

What did I do?

It couldn’t be that An Han complained to her dad about helping me with my “five sisters” every night.

But An Han seemed to enjoy it too...

“Could it be because he’s angry that I’m not capable?”

Su Peng paused, then immediately rejected the thought.

With An Han’s personality, she would never complain to her father about something like “my boyfriend finishes in seconds.” Besides, she knew that saying something like that would expose the extent of their intimacy.

Then he suddenly remembered the backless sweater he had seen before...

If it really was because of that sweater, then he was seriously wronged—after all, he had only seen it once, and An Han had been wearing pants at the time.

...

“Dad…” An Han sat obediently on the sofa with her head lowered.

Her father’s anger hadn’t subsided. He tapped the coffee table with his finger. “Eat.”

“Oh.”

An Han took a few bites of rice, nervously observing her father’s expression.

It’s fine. Let Su Peng suffer a little grievance.

Anyway, her father would be flying away tomorrow.

The plane ticket had already been booked, and he still had work abroad. There was no way he could suddenly change the plan.

At worst, Su Peng could stay in the school dormitory for a day. After her father left, she could give him a little compensation...

While she was lost in thought, her father’s chopsticks missed the food he was trying to pick up.

That small mistake made him realize what she was thinking, and he sighed deeply. “Daughters really grow up and leave their fathers behind.”

“...”

Sons do the same, okay? Just look at Su Peng and his parents.

An Han didn’t know what to say and continued eating obediently. She planned to finish lunch as quickly as possible and then retreat to her room, pretending to take a nap to avoid her father.

Now she finally understood how terrifying controlling parents could be.

During winter vacation she could still tolerate it, but now she found herself unable to understand her father.

Maybe her father’s affection for An Han was about to reach its limit, but for her, her father was someone she only saw a few times a year. In more than twenty years, the time they had spent together probably didn’t even add up to a single year. Their closeness might not even match that of her college roommates.

The most familiar stranger.

An Han suddenly spoke up. “Dad, you shouldn’t have looked through my wardrobe.”

“Everyone has privacy, especially since I’m a girl now.”

Her father was caught off guard by her sudden move and froze for a moment. The anger surging inside him suddenly eased quite a bit.

After all, he was a university student from the last century and had worked abroad for years. Instead of feeling offended that his authority as a father had been challenged, he simply nodded calmly.

“You’re right. That part was my fault.”

An Han’s eyes lit up when she heard that.

He’s not as hard to talk to as I thought!

Next, she needed to press the advantage and convince him not to interfere in his child’s freedom to date...

“But that brat Su Peng—I can tell his character is bad!”

Ah… right.

Her father launched into a furious tirade about Su Peng.

“That guy’s family is rich and powerful, and he looks good too. Sounds great, huh? In the future he’ll definitely cheat and keep mistresses!”

Even as he said the first sentence, he sounded a bit uncertain, since it was just his own baseless speculation. But then he grew even angrier.

“He can’t say a single honest word! Promised me one thing and then immediately turned around and changed his face!”

“He promised me he wouldn’t touch you before marriage! And he can’t even keep that!”

An Han definitely didn’t dare mention that most of the time it was actually her who initiated things with Su Peng...

The only things Su Peng had ever taken the initiative to do were probably kissing and putting his hand around her waist.

Although the system had played a role in pushing things along, in reality she had quite enjoyed teasing Su Peng.

Listening to her father’s words, she awkwardly abandoned the plan she had just formed.

Let Su Peng suffer a bit—it’s fine.

Even if her father disapproved, it wouldn’t matter much anyway. Her father spent most of the year abroad and only came back during the New Year for a short while.

There was no way he could interfere with her life from overseas. Besides, her mother actually liked Su Peng quite a bit. By the time they took the household registration book and registered their marriage, her father might not even know until he received the wedding invitation.

“Mm-hm, yeah, yeah, exactly.”
