Chapter 170 168. The Offensive
An Han had never heard of restaurants requiring advance payment just to make a reservation. In all the food-review videos she’d watched online, no one had ever mentioned such a thing.
But seeing how serious and forceful Su Peng looked, she still wavered.
After all, she’d never been to a high-end restaurant before—who knew what kind of rules those places had?
Su Peng turned his head and noticed the hesitation on her face. Without any further explanation, he decisively grabbed her wrist and dragged her toward the restaurant.
“Hey! Why are you pulling me?!”
“Aren’t you really eager to eat? Whatever it is, we’ll talk after we’re done,” he said in an unquestionable tone. “No matter what, eating comes first. Move faster.”
Because of the height difference, his legs were much longer than An Han’s, and she couldn’t keep up with his pace, stumbling as she was dragged along behind him.
After finally steadying herself, she could only jog to keep up so she wouldn’t be yanked off her feet.
“I’m not that eager to eat!” she protested stubbornly while trying to match his steps. “Let go of my hand—I can walk on my own.”
This guy—he suddenly got all forceful again!
And he was pretending to be deaf too!
She was extremely dissatisfied, but the moment she thought about how Su Peng was paying for the steak, she instantly tossed that dissatisfaction aside. Her earlier anxiety and unease vanished completely when they reached the restaurant entrance and she saw the huge steak poster out front.
“Do you have a reservation?”
“My surname is Su.”
Su Peng answered the waiter casually. Only then did he release An Han’s hand, turning to remind her, “Stay closer. If you get lost, I’m not responsible for finding you.”
“What, do you think I’m three years old?”
An Han rubbed her reddened wrist, frowning as she complained, “You hurt me…”
“Want me to rub it for you?”
“You’re trying to take advantage of me again!”
She glared at Su Peng angrily.
The lighting in the restaurant was dim, the décor leaned toward a Western style, and soft music played in the hall. Most of the guests were neatly dressed, speaking quietly, without the usual clamor of ordinary eateries.
An Han’s face was full of curiosity as she looked around, observing everything. When she looked up again, she realized she’d fallen behind Su Peng and hurried to catch up. Guided by a waiter, the two passed through the hall and entered a private room.
She sat down somewhat stiffly, watching as the waiter carefully set the table for her. Her expression was rigid, her posture straight and tense.
Before this, the most expensive place she’d ever eaten at was probably a wedding banquet.
But wedding banquets were always lively, with relatives and friends at the same table—not like this place, where she didn’t even dare breathe too loudly.
Having a blind date in a place like this… really maxed out the “high-end” factor.
And yet I’m the one occupying the spot, stealing the lunch that was originally arranged for Lin Shasha.
An Han cautiously poked the gold-rimmed tableware with her finger and asked softly, “This isn’t real gold, is it?”
“It’s not worth much,” Su Peng said casually, leaning back in his chair with one leg crossed over the other. “I once ate at a place that claimed the teacups were from the owner’s personal collection—worth thousands or even tens of thousands each.”
“……”
Seeing how tense An Han’s little face looked, he smiled and added, “It’s usually just bragging. Even if you smashed the tableware, no one would make you pay.”
“Really…?”
An Han still wasn’t used to the atmosphere. She glanced toward the waiters standing guard at the door from time to time and whispered, “Can they leave…?”
Being watched while eating and chatting was seriously uncomfortable.
Without Su Peng saying a word, the two waiters, having heard An Han’s request, bowed slightly and left the private room.
Only then did An Han relax a bit. She propped her chin on one hand and muttered helplessly, “I’m never coming to a restaurant like this again.”
“What if it’s really good?” Su Peng asked.
“If it’s good, that’s another story…”
Now that only the two of them were left in the room, An Han had wanted to play on her phone. But as she took it out, she noticed Su Peng’s gaze growing increasingly intense. The tenderness and affection in his eyes were almost nakedly obvious—so much so that even without any sensitivity bonus, she could clearly feel it.
Her body stiffened again. She hurriedly lowered her head, using her bangs to hide her burning face. She unlocked her phone and tapped at the screen as if focused on it, but her mind gradually became a mess.
This atmosphere was basically a full-on date.
And with the slightly dim lighting in the private room, if they lit a couple of candles and poured some red wine… wouldn’t this be the classic candlelight dinner?
She had only wanted to try what steak at a high-end restaurant tasted like—so why did it feel like she was about to end up giving herself away?
“You look prettier than usual,” Su Peng said in a low, husky voice, leaning forward slightly as he looked at An Han intently.
An Han knew it was true. After all, she’d just gained a point in appearance—she was definitely different from a few minutes ago.
But given the current atmosphere, she seriously suspected Su Peng was just flirting.
She lowered her head uncomfortably, not daring to meet his eyes, yet she could feel that burning gaze lingering on her body—sliding from her face to her neck wrapped in a padded jacket, to the slight swell of her chest…
She even felt as if a faint pink haze was filling the room. Uneasy, she drew her legs together and unconsciously hunched her shoulders inward.
There was a knock on the door. Two waiters came in, placing the steaks in front of them and pouring red wine into their tall glasses.
Great. Now all that was missing was candlelight.
An Han sighed with a headache. She tried her best to ignore Su Peng’s gaze and focus on the knife, fork, and steak.
“Want to try a bite of mine? Ribeye.” Su Peng speared a piece of cut steak and held it up to her lips.
“No, no.” She shook her head in panic. “I have my own.”
“It tastes different.”
Can you stop talking in that low, husky voice?! That’s way too aggressive!
She subconsciously glanced up at Su Peng, only to see his eyes full of amusement and mischievous delight. Clearly, her reaction was exactly what he wanted.
He’s launching an offensive against me!
Even though she understood it perfectly in her heart, the blush on her face had already spread to her neck and earlobes. Her heart was pounding wildly, like a startled deer.
Annoyed, An Han glared at him. “You flirted with girls like this before too, didn’t you?”
She tried hard to break the mood, afraid her mind would turn to mush and she’d be taken advantage of again.
Su Peng’s current demeanor completely overturned his usual gentle image. He ate his steak casually and replied just as casually, “Only with you.”
“Tch! Can you act normal?” An Han knocked on the table. “Can’t you even let me eat in peace?”
Su Peng pursed his lips, leaned back in his chair, and his voice returned to normal. “I was just testing what type you like.”
“I like girls!” An Han answered firmly.
“I like you.”
An Han froze, and her brain immediately crashed.
