Chapter 173 171. Returning to Campus

Jan 16, 2026 1,532 words

“Wake up, we’re getting out.”

An Han was jolted awake as someone shook her shoulder. She rubbed the corner of her eyes, still looking a little dazed.

She had fallen asleep without realizing it—and seemed to have had a strange dream.

She dreamed about marrying Su Peng…

Still groggy, she pushed open the car door and stepped onto the roadside, yawning repeatedly as she stretched. Then she suddenly reacted and snapped her head toward Su Peng.

Something’s off about the way this guy is looking at me~

Usually, Su Peng’s gaze was gentle and tinged with fondness. When they were eating steak earlier, his eyes had been full of aggression. But now, there was a mix of tenderness and pity in them.

What on earth has he been overthinking?

He didn’t believe the system thing, so he’s mentally twisting what I said into… that I went and had gender reassignment surgery?

An Han muttered inwardly. She didn’t dare ask. She followed behind Su Peng in small steps, only to notice that he had lowered his head and was playing with his phone, seemingly browsing something.

Having spent quite some time around Su Peng, she knew he normally didn’t have the habit of using his phone while walking. Even if there was something urgent to handle, he would usually stop and reply.

She sped up slightly and craned her head to peek over.

From that distance, An Han couldn’t clearly see what was on Su Peng’s screen, but judging by the layout of the text, it looked like he was reading news.

Sensing her attention, Su Peng glanced sideways at her. “What’s wrong?”

“What are you looking at?”

“I’m trying to find a piece of news I saw a long time ago.”

“Hm?”

“Something like… a couple who’d been married for over ten years without children. They went for a medical checkup and only then discovered the wife was essentially a man.”

When he heard An Han say she used to be male, this news immediately came to his mind. As a result, he strongly suspected that An Han had learned her true biological sex during some medical exam, then had surgery to correct it during the summer break.

Of course, he had also considered that An Han might have simply undergone gender reassignment surgery—but he had previously taken her to the hospital for a full set of examinations and found nothing abnormal.

In any case, he could accept either situation.

An Han looked completely stunned. That kind of news sounded way too outrageous.

Su Peng tentatively asked, “Sounds a lot like your situation, doesn’t it?”

“Does it?” An Han’s eyes were filled with confusion, but she quickly lowered her head to hide her blank expression, as if avoiding the topic, and hurried through the school gate.

Fine, let Su Peng keep guessing!

No matter how absurd his guess was, she’d deal with it by not answering and avoiding the topic. Given enough time, he’d surely come up with some explanation he found reasonable and acceptable.

After all, there was no way he’d believe in the existence of a system.

Having settled on a strategy, An Han’s mood immediately improved.

What annoyed her was that Su Peng wasn’t her—causing him some trouble was something she was happy to see.

Serves you right for touching me and hugging me around like that!

Back on campus, An Han’s attention shifted to the system reward: “unexpected wealth.”

She was just waiting for the money to arrive so she could rent a decent place off campus, avoiding Su Peng’s constant entanglement and the need to stay on guard against being taken advantage of.

Unconsciously, her gaze dropped to the ground as she thought about how the system might deliver the money.

Since it was “unexpected wealth,” did that mean she’d pick up some cash?

She never bought lottery tickets or joined raffles—winning prizes would never be her luck.

But if it was money she picked up, she wouldn’t dare pocket a large sum, while a small amount wouldn’t help with rent anyway.

The amount was probably not small. After all, it was a Task Two reward—by rights, it shouldn’t be bad.

As she passed the large plaza between the dormitory buildings, An Han spotted an ongoing CS:GO competition.

From afar, she could see Wang Sheng and Wang Yu sitting behind computers. The e-sports club’s stage setup was fairly decent. Although there were no soundproof booths, the huge spliced display screen allowed her to clearly see Wang Sheng’s in-game actions.

She’d thought such a niche game wouldn’t attract many people, but in reality, the hundred-plus plastic chairs in front of the stage were almost all filled, with many more people standing around watching.

Standing on tiptoe, An Han looked at Wang Sheng’s serious, focused expression on stage and couldn’t help sighing. “That’s really nice…”

What a pity the task had failed for no reason at all!

The system was definitely doing it on purpose!

“I heard the whole school only formed seven or eight teams,” Su Peng said beside her. “Not even as good as an internet café tournament.”

An Han retorted indignantly, “Some internet café tournaments don’t even have seven or eight teams!”

“Honor of Kings has dozens of teams.”

She pretended not to hear and continued walking toward the dorms.

Maybe the system judged that all the teams in the entire school combined still didn’t meet its standards for an internet café tournament, so it counted as a failed task?

But isn’t that standard just whatever the system wants it to be?!

“An Han…” After walking for a bit, Su Peng, who was following behind her, hesitated.

“What?”

Noticing that Su Peng wasn’t looking at her, An Han turned her head to follow his line of sight.

In front of the convenience store not far away, Long Xing was standing there, holding a pink thermos cup, staring at her in a daze.

An Han instinctively raised her hand to wave, but then suddenly noticed the white long sleeves on her arms. She lowered her head, looking at the legs extending from beneath her short skirt—wrapped in white stockings…

Her gaze then moved to her chest. What hadn’t been obvious under her coat was now strikingly conspicuous because she was wearing a tight white high-neck sweater.

Even though her bust still wasn’t large, this distance was more than enough for Long Xing to see clearly.

An Han fell silent, forcing herself to maintain a straight face and pretending she didn’t recognize Long Xing.

How did I end up in front of my own dorm building while half-asleep?!

What if I run into another classmate or roommate head-on?!

She took a step back, hiding herself in the shadow cast by Su Peng. “Go to the D building girls’ dorm. Help block me.”

“Didn’t we pass that dorm ages ago?”

“I didn’t realize…”

Aside from the initial embarrassment and shame when she first went out, she had almost forgotten she was wearing women’s clothing.

After all, it was more comfortable and form-fitting than her usual men’s clothes—and she’d been lost in thought the whole time.

Su Peng laughed. “How can you be so dumb?”

“None of your business.”

Your brain’s not much better! You’re over there digging up news and guessing—no way in hell you’ll ever guess that the ‘system’ I mentioned is the actual truth!

Annoyed, An Han kicked Su Peng lightly in the calf, then quieted down and obediently followed behind him, hiding from view.

Normally, she deliberately suppressed the physical traits granted by the system, afraid that even a slight slip would get her mocked as “girly.” But now that she was wearing women’s clothes, she couldn’t be bothered to control her feminine mannerisms. Even speaking in a soft, coquettish tone wouldn’t be a problem—in fact, it might even excite men.

And sure enough, when she didn’t restrain herself, her body and mind felt the most relaxed…

“Did Lin Yi help you with your makeup?” Su Peng asked.

“Yeah. I don’t know how to do makeup, and I borrowed the clothes from her too,” An Han replied, quickly moving to the other side of Su Peng.

Another classmate!

The student was carrying several boxed lunches—probably bringing food back for roommates.

Although she didn’t interact much with that classmate, An Han had already been teased as the class beauty. Most classmates would probably recognize her at first glance even in women’s clothing.

An Han’s request wasn’t high—just please don’t let rumors about her cross-dressing spread all over the place by Monday’s classes!
