Chapter 241 238. A Guess Comes True
An Han hid under the covers all morning and, without a care, even took a short nap. It wasn’t until lunchtime that she reluctantly got out of bed.
She didn’t want to see her father…
Too awkward.
She dawdled, moving toward the door as slowly as if she were stepping into hell, debating whether she should ask her mother if she could skip lunch.
“An Han! Come down for lunch!”
Her mother’s voice called from downstairs. An Han froze for a moment, but ultimately couldn’t resist the hunger in her stomach. She put on a nonchalant expression and left the room.
Looking down from the stairs, she saw her family already eating. Perhaps hearing her door open, her father looked up, and their eyes met.
An Han’s face immediately flushed red. She quickly averted her gaze and hurried downstairs.
So awkward… and she was worried her father would feel mocked.
Her image had been destroyed once again.
Originally, in her father’s eyes, she had been a relatively outgoing and independent son. Though short, she had a decent, clean-cut appearance. Apart from being too skinny and lacking a girlfriend, which worried her father, everything else had left a good impression.
But now, who knew what her father thought of her.
An Han sighed quietly and, mustering courage, sat at the table under her father’s gaze.
She could feel his eyes occasionally flicking to her chest. Even though she wore a thick jacket, waves of embarrassment still rose to her head. Her face grew even redder, her ears burning, as she lowered her head anxiously and picked up a chopstick to eat, becoming completely absorbed in her meal.
The earlier she finished, the sooner she could return to hiding in her room.
Her father’s eyes scanned An Han’s flushed face. He couldn’t understand why his once cheerful, lively son had become so shy and introverted.
And as a boy, she actually looked… cute and delicate when shy?
His eyelid twitched as he tried to rationalize.
Maybe the chest development had caused his son considerable psychological trauma. After all, he was still young, cared about how others saw him, and didn’t know how to deal with it, so he had hidden it.
Looking at his wife across the table, he noticed she seemed oblivious and even handed An Han a homemade fried chicken drumstick.
“See if it tastes different from what’s sold outside.”
An Han grabbed the drumstick and took a small bite, quietly saying, “A little better than outside.”
“Healthier than outside too, but don’t eat too much—you’ll gain weight.”
“An Han being a little chubby wouldn’t be bad. Being so fragile… what would that look like?” he interjected. He had always thought An Han was too skinny, and now she had gone from thin to delicate.
His wife rolled her eyes but said nothing.
The father couldn’t focus on eating. His gaze remained almost entirely on An Han, and his mind wandered back to the absurd thought he had before:
Could my son actually be a daughter?
The idea had seemed ridiculous at first, but after seeing An Han’s B+ chest, he realized it wasn’t entirely impossible.
And his wife’s reaction was odd…
Even though he was often away for work, he knew his wife’s personality well.
If An Han was showing feminine traits, his wife should have been the first to notice and get upset.
“You two are hiding something from me, right?”
An Han shivered and timidly continued eating, ready to escape quickly.
Her mother, hearing the question, initially tried to brush it off as a rhetorical question, but then noticed An Han’s unusual behavior.
“An Han?” she asked, giving her daughter an inquiring look.
An Han met her gaze pitifully.
Looks like she had been found out.
Her mother didn’t know how much An Han had revealed, but seeing her daughter’s anxious and worried expression, she realized it couldn’t be kept secret any longer.
Worried a conflict or argument might erupt, she calmly took her younger daughter’s bowl, added some food, and said, “Go upstairs and eat while watching TV.”
Her younger sister’s eyes lit up, and she eagerly ran upstairs with her bowl.
Knowing An Han would have trouble speaking up, her mother gently patted her head. “It’s fine, I’ll handle it. You go eat upstairs too.”
“I just finished eating…”
Her father stared at the two of them in confusion, and the ridiculous thought seemed increasingly close to reality.
Watching An Han leave, he asked helplessly, “An Han is a girl?”
A smile appeared on his wife’s face. “You accepted it quickly, didn’t you? An Han was worried you’d get angry.”
“…”
This wasn’t quick acceptance—it was shock from seeing An Han’s chest…
“Wh-what… exactly happened?”
Even her mother didn’t know all the details. She brushed back her hair, frowned slightly, and shook her head. “I don’t know the specifics. An Han won’t say.”
“But I’ve checked her. She really is a girl and even has her period.”
Before her father could respond, she continued, “Her friends also took her for a full medical checkup—no health issues were found. Medically, she’s confirmed to be a girl.”
“Then why?” Her father furrowed his brows deeply.
“Does the reason matter if she is confirmed to be your daughter?”
Her father struggled to calm himself. His breathing grew heavier and faster, his fists clenched and unclenched. He had planned to buy a condo for An Han, pay the down payment, and spend the rest of his working life helping repay it.
He had hoped An Han would find a beautiful, virtuous daughter-in-law, fantasizing about retiring and enjoying a three-generation household.
He had been willing to work abroad for over ten years, returning home only once or twice a year—all for his son.
And now his son had become a daughter?
“She’s still your child. What’s so hard to accept?” His wife understood his feelings—she had been through similar experiences.
“But… but…” His father stammered, unsure what to say.
Finally, he sighed deeply, pressing his hand to his forehead, rubbing his temples, and asking in a low voice, “What will happen to her in the future?”
She was still small and thin, her face not particularly pretty. As a boy, her height had been severely lacking; as a girl, she hadn’t inherited her mother’s youthful looks.
“How long has this been?”
“About a few months.”
And in just a few months, her mental state was also questionable.
Her father was still having trouble accepting it but suggested, “Let’s take her to a hospital in the city to see a psychologist.”
“And I want to see her medical report.”
“Maybe we should take her for another checkup…”
From the stairs came light, tiptoeing footsteps.
Her father instinctively looked up and saw a pure, cute, petite, and charming girl slowly making her way downstairs, shy and fearful.
“???”
He suddenly thought having a daughter wasn’t so bad after all.
