Chapter 338 335. Rainy Day
The continuous spring rain caused the temperature, which had just begun to warm up, to drop again.
An Han put her wool gloves and fluffy earmuffs back on, wearing a bulky white down jacket and wrapping a scarf around herself, bundling up tightly so that only her eyes were visible.
The last time on her birthday, she had shown the system item to Lin Yi and Ke Xin. Because of that, her hair—only ear-length at the start of the semester—had now grown to her chin at its longest point. Now there was no trace left of the man she used to be.
“Maybe I should find a barber and get a nicer hairstyle.”
“But that would cost another thirty… and for girls, dyeing or perming is probably even more expensive.”
Counting the money in her wallet, An Han wore a worried expression as she finished putting on her clothes. She breathed out clouds of white vapor, rubbed her hands together for warmth, hunched her shoulders, and walked out of the bedroom.
Su Peng had already been waiting in the living room for a while.
“My scholarship arrived,” he said as soon as they met, bringing good news. With a gentle smile, he added, “Want to eat something good tonight? Grilled fish or barbecue?”
“Shouldn’t we save money?” An Han’s feet couldn’t handle the damp cold weather, and she kept stepping in place. “How much is it?”
“Third-class scholarship. Seven hundred.”
Her delicate brows furrowed as she hesitated before rejecting Su Peng’s idea.
“Forget it. If it were two or three thousand, then sure, a nice meal would be fine. But just seven hundred…”
“You probably only make about a thousand a month delivering food!”
Su Peng paused for a moment and nodded thoughtfully. Only now did he begin to gain a realistic sense of money.
Growing up, he had never lacked money. It had always been just a number in an account. Although he had no interest in luxury goods and didn’t spend like water, he still casually spent hundreds on game top-ups.
“Alright, then I’ll save it.”
He smiled and accepted An Han’s suggestion.
“The money was transferred to the card I use to pay tuition. Maybe I’ll need to save six thousand before senior year.”
“You’re not even planning to ask your parents for your tuition…”
An Han couldn’t imagine how fierce the argument must have been when Su Peng went home, nor could she imagine the resentment he carried toward his parents.
Although complaining about parents might sound unfilial, in truth, which child doesn’t have some resentment…
Anyway, her task would probably have to be delayed for quite a while.
“There’s a spring recruitment fair coming up soon. I’m planning to check it out and see if I can find a weekend internship.”
“Mm-hmm.”
As he spoke, Su Peng had already put on a red raincoat.
An Han tugged at it with clear disgust, wrinkling her nose.
“So ugly…”
No matter his looks or physique, Su Peng could usually pull off anything like a clothes hanger model, but even he looked terrible in that raincoat.
“I’m riding a bicycle, and I have to deliver food at noon. I can’t exactly hold an umbrella.”
Su Peng walked out the door first. The cold morning air mixed with damp moisture hit him head-on, making him shiver.
He pushed the bicycle out of the hallway, wiped the seat with a rag, and before he even turned to call An Han, the bicycle suddenly shook. The next moment, An Han had wrapped her arms tightly around his waist.
“Be careful.”
Su Peng turned to look at An Han, who had already sat on the back seat, and lifted his raincoat.
“Get inside.”
“No way. I’ll just hold an umbrella.”
“It’ll be really cold. Besides, once you’re inside, nobody can see you anyway.”
After a moment of consideration, An Han felt that made sense. She bent down and slipped her upper body under the raincoat, pressing her body tightly against Su Peng’s back.
“Let’s go.”
Inside the raincoat it was warm, completely shielded from the cold wind. Su Peng’s body constantly radiated heat, making An Han’s cheeks turn rosy.
She really liked this small and warm space, comfortably resting her cheek against Su Peng’s back.
“Su Peng~”
In the light drizzle, An Han hugged his waist and softly called his name, her voice relaxed and gentle.
“What is it?”
“Other couples all call each other by nicknames.”
Su Peng paused for a moment.
“Xiao Han?”
“Doesn’t sound good. It sounds like a boss or Long-ge calling me.”
“Hanhan?”
“Are you insulting me?”
“Little dummy?”
“Get lost!”
An Han aimed at both sides of Su Peng’s waist and jabbed her fingers hard.
But Su Peng was wearing thick clothes, and her fingers couldn’t get through the padded jacket at all. He didn’t feel any pain or ticklishness.
Fifteen minutes before class, the bicycle stopped at the cafeteria entrance.
An Han quickly jumped off and hurried under the roof of the cafeteria. She lightly stomped her feet as her face turned red from the cold, long trails of white vapor coming from her breath.
After parking the bicycle, Su Peng quickly came over to her side.
“You’re not working this morning, right?”
She immediately moved closer and hugged his arm, enjoying the steady warmth coming from his body.
“Just noon and evening. Today we’ll sit near the back door in class. I need to leave half an hour early to deliver food.”
“Won’t that affect your grades?”
“No.”
“I’ve never seen you study much…”
In class, Su Peng was always whispering with An Han, watching videos with her, or playing on his phone. She had never seen him study particularly hard, yet his grades were always among the top in the class.
They bought two breakfasts in the cafeteria and casually found a seat.
Looking at the rain that still hadn’t stopped outside, An Han complained quietly,
“I don’t like rainy days.”
“It’s damp and cold. I feel like my socks are already wet.”
“I’ll warm your feet tonight.”
Of course she knew what Su Peng meant. She rolled her eyes at him.
After getting a taste of the benefits once, this guy had become insatiable. Almost every day he looked at her with a pleading expression, hoping she would help him again. After so many times, his threshold had risen a bit—from collapsing instantly to being able to hold out for a moment or two.
But Su Peng had needs, and so did An Han…
These past few days she had become less willing to help him. Otherwise Su Peng might feel good, but she would end up tossing and turning all night unable to sleep.
“Forget it. I’ll sleep by myself.”
She muttered while looking away from Su Peng, but just then she happened to see three people entering through the cafeteria doors.
“I wonder if Long-ge managed to pursue that girl.”
Looking at the three dormmates, An Han asked Su Peng,
“Did you ever hear him talk about it?”
“Not really. I’m not that close with them.”
Although they had been neighbors in the dorm before and occasionally visited each other, if not for An Han, Su Peng wouldn’t have had much interaction with Long Xing and the others.
“They don’t seem to hang out with me much anymore.”
Long Xing and the other two sat at another empty table. Ever since that birthday gathering, An Han hadn’t spoken much with them for nearly a week.
“Maybe they’re afraid of affecting us. Probably worried about causing misunderstandings too.”
“Tch…”
An Han clicked her tongue, then quietly lowered her head and continued eating, unwilling to think too much about it.
Although it wasn’t very obvious, those male friends were indeed gradually distancing themselves from her.
Fortunately, she still had Su Peng by her side, and Lin Yi and An Kexin had become her friends too.
