Chapter 282 279. Photo

Mar 31, 2026 1,438 words

[Task completed. An Siqi has obtained the “Painless Period” trait.]

Half-asleep, An Han saw the system notification in her dream.

It startled her awake immediately. She stared blankly at the ceiling, stretched lazily, then rolled over and hugged her younger sister like a body pillow.

Unfortunately, her sister was a bit too skinny—hugging her felt like holding bones, a little uncomfortable.

The pain in her lower abdomen was completely gone. It seemed that from now on, neither she nor her sister would have to suffer because of their periods anymore.

“So fast?”

It was only the fourth day. An Han had already prepared herself for a long battle.

Her sister had behaved fairly well. Aside from the pain at the beginning caused by washing her hair and not drying it properly, she hadn’t done anything reckless afterward. Occasionally her lower abdomen still hurt a little, but it was mild enough to ignore.

The pleasant surprise washed away her drowsiness. Rubbing her eyes, she got up and looked out the window at the faintly bright sky.

It was still early. Outside was dim and gray, a thin layer of mist drifting along the streets. It didn’t affect visibility much, but it felt as if the world had been covered with a soft filter.

She stared blankly for a moment as her mind gradually cleared.

Dazed, she stood up, though her legs still felt a little weak.

With the strange abdominal pain and discomfort gone, her body felt lighter. Stretching and yawning, she walked toward the living room.

When she reached the bathroom, she looked at herself in the mirror—slightly haggard, with faint dark circles under her eyes. Then she glanced at the various cosmetics her mother had bought for her.

Maybe she should put on some light makeup to cover the blemishes on her face? At least it would make her look healthier and more rosy, instead of someone who had been tortured for days and constantly stayed up late.

With that thought, she picked up a bottle of cosmetics and tentatively applied it to her face.

During this time, she had watched quite a few makeup tutorials and roughly understood the process.

About ten minutes later, a “female ghost” with pale skin and uneven complexion appeared in the mirror.

The makeup could only be described as a complete disaster.

“Tch!”

Why doesn’t the system give me a makeup skill?!

It keeps giving all these flashy but useless things!

Annoyed, An Han washed the cosmetics off her face and could only apply some moisturizing toner as usual.

In a hotel only a few hundred meters away from An Han’s home, Su Peng had also gotten up early to wash up.

While packing his luggage, he hesitated for a moment before sending An Han a message.

“I’m leaving now. Take care of yourself.”

He muttered to himself as he slipped the phone into his pocket.

“By the time An Han wakes up, it’ll probably already be past ten.”

Today was his grandfather’s birthday. His parents had urged him yesterday to hurry back to help prepare, but because he was worried about An Han’s condition, he kept delaying.

Yesterday An Han seemed to be doing well, and since her parents could take good care of her, Su Peng didn’t need to worry too much.

If he set off now, he would arrive at his grandfather’s house around eleven—just in time for the birthday banquet.

But his parents would definitely scold him a bit.

I should bring some kind of gift back… otherwise they’ll nag me for days.

Su Peng didn’t have much luggage. After packing everything quickly, he took the hotel key card and went out.

After checking out at the lobby on the first floor, he pushed open the glass doors and looked at the misty street outside.

Today would probably be a nice day.

The thin fog wouldn’t affect driving much, but the early morning temperature was very low. The moment he stepped outside, goosebumps rose all over his arms.

He zipped up his coat, stuffed his hands into his pockets, hunched his shoulders, and walked toward the parking lot.

But after only a few steps, Su Peng suddenly raised his head and looked into the distance down the street.

From within the thin fog, the outline of a girl gradually appeared. Just from her figure and the way she walked, he had already recognized who it was.

As the figure became clearer, it confirmed his guess.

The girl smiled brightly, like a little sun, dispelling the winter chill.

“Su Peng! Are you going to my house?”

An Han jogged over, looking up at him with her bare face. Her eyes sparkled.

“I brought you breakfast! Aren’t you leaving today? Have lunch at my house before you go!”

“After breakfast, let’s go to the internet café and play games!”

Su Peng took the breakfast in a daze. He couldn’t help rubbing An Han’s head.

“Does it still hurt?”

“It stopped hurting a long time ago!”

He paused for a moment.

“I just sent you a message. I’m leaving now.”

“Oh… I see…”

Her bright smile dimmed instantly. An Han lowered her head and muttered unhappily.

“You finally came all this way, but I didn’t even get to take you out anywhere.”

At first, Su Peng had been busy winning over her parents. Later, An Han had stomach pain, so they could only stay at home. After several days, the total time the two of them spent together didn’t even add up to a few hours.

“It’s fine. School starts in ten days anyway.”

Su Peng said with a smile, trying to comfort her.

“Still ten days away~”

Looks like I’ll have to rely on my computer again for those ten days.

Walking behind Su Peng, An Han ate small meat buns one bite at a time, her gaze fixed on his face.

When they arrived at the car, Su Peng put his luggage into the trunk. Suddenly he turned around and asked,

“Oh right, how about we take a photo together?”

“A photo?”

An Han didn’t have the habit of taking pictures. Since meeting Su Peng, the only photo they had together was a class group photo from military training.

“Sure, I guess.”

She wasn’t used to showing personal photos of herself to others, so she added a reminder.

“Don’t post it on Moments or anything.”

“I’ll just show it to my parents.”

“That’s fine.”

Su Peng took out his phone and switched to selfie mode. An Han quickly moved closer, leaning against his shoulder as she looked at the screen.

“Did you turn on beauty mode?”

“I’ll turn it on…”

“Squat down a little so I look taller.”

Su Peng bent his knees slightly so their heads were level.

“Like this?”

“Yeah!”

“Take it from above—raise the phone higher. I saw Lin Yue and Kexin take photos like that!”

An Han might not know how to take selfies, but she had seen plenty of selfies posted by the two girls on her Moments, and they almost always used this angle.

After Su Peng adjusted the angle and took a photo of them standing side by side, she frowned.

Su Peng saved the photo with satisfaction. When he got home and his parents asked where he had gone for the past couple of days, he could use the photo of his “future daughter-in-law” as an excuse.

“No, no! Let’s take another one!”

“You’re getting addicted to this?”

Su Peng laughed and raised his phone again.

But this time, An Han suddenly wrapped both hands around his arm, pressed her body close to his, and rested her head on his shoulder.

Her faint fragrance filled his nose. Even through the thick winter clothes, he could vaguely feel the graceful curves of her body.

He felt a little embarrassed. His body stiffened, and he didn’t know where to put his hands. He could only mechanically press the shutter button.

An Han blushed, staring at the couple on the phone screen whose pose looked so intimate.

Now this is what a couple’s photo should look like!

That stiff photo of them standing side by side earlier—people who didn’t know better might think they were just a pair of bros.
