Chapter 224 221. Home

Feb 05, 2026 1,174 words

An Han used to share a bed with her younger sister.

It was then that she realized that even petite, pretty girls could snore.

And quite loudly…

From that point on, she never slept with her sister again—back then, she hadn’t endured the dormitory hardships yet, and her sister’s snoring kept her awake all night.

Now, however, she slept well; her sister’s snoring wasn’t anywhere near as deafening as Long Xing’s.

Yawning as she opened her eyes, An Han looked at the slightly mottled ceiling, then turned her head to glance at her sister, who hugged her like an octopus, treating her like a doll while sleeping.

God knows why this little one adapted so quickly.

By the age of ten or so, shouldn’t a child already understand the concept of gender?

An Han struggled lightly, but her sister quickly opened her eyes: “Sis~ what time is it?”

“Time to get up.”

She reached for the phone on the bedside table and checked the time.

Eight in the morning.

Su Peng had sent her several messages last night.

Glancing at them, An Han felt too lazy to type a reply. She stretched and pushed away the octopus-like grip of her sister: “Move.”

“No~”

“Scram!”

After pushing her sister aside, she got out of bed and started her day.

Her mother was already busy making breakfast downstairs. An Han brushed her teeth and went downstairs, poking her head out anxiously on the stairs: “Mom, what’s for breakfast today?”

“Sandwiches for breakfast, your favorite seafood for lunch, and we’ll eat out tonight. How’s that?”

Her mother turned and smiled warmly: “What do you plan to do during winter break?”

“Stay home and play on the computer!”

“You should go out a bit, it’s better.”

“I’m a girl now; it’s not safe to go out alone.”

Her mother paused but didn’t argue, just changed the subject: “You didn’t look for a boyfriend at school during this break, right?”

“No.”

“Really? Your sister said she saw you chatting on your phone last night.”

Of course, her sister had become a little surveillance agent for their mother.

An Han wasn’t surprised at all and skillfully defended herself: “Just chatting with friends from the game.”

She went downstairs, slipped on the house slippers, and peered at the piles of red market bags in the sink: “What seafood did you buy?”

Curious, she opened one of the bags and found a huge blue crab inside.

The other bags held squid, blood clams, palm-sized shrimp, lychee meat, and fried tofu…

The last two she couldn’t get at school; she had seen blood clams at the market but didn’t know how to cook them herself.

Almost everything was her favorite food.

“So much?”

“You just got back, you need something good to eat.”

An Han mumbled quietly: “That won’t be the case in a couple of days.”

Her mother was a very “practical” person. Every winter or summer break, An Han could enjoy her favorite foods, sleep in without anyone asking, and stay up all night eating snacks.

But after a few days, at most a week, her mother would become completely “cold” toward her.

Even if she slept a little late, her mother would nag endlessly.

“The sandwich has beef patty and egg.”

Her mother handed her a freshly made sandwich wrapped in plastic.

“Sister! Time to eat!”

Calling to her sister upstairs, An Han grabbed the sandwich and quickly ran to the living room.

She sank comfortably into the sofa, curling her legs, one hand on her phone, the other holding the sandwich, looking utterly lazy.

Life at home was wonderful~

No worries about the cost of food, freedom to do anything, play on the computer anytime, and if hungry, her mother could make something at a moment’s notice.

Plus, stepping out of the alley led straight to the shopping street—late-night snacks were always available.

Except her sister being a little annoying…

Her sister, who had been dawdling upstairs, finally came down looking half-asleep, rubbing her eyes and with messy hair.

Before An Han could say anything, her mother had already stuffed a sandwich into her mouth: “Go play with your sister in the back.”

“Oh~”

Her sister immediately perked up and jumped onto the sofa, her big eyes curiously staring at her curled-up sister.

An Han twitched an eyelid, and then heard her sister ask: “Bro, why did you turn into a sister?”

“......”

Could she not ask such an embarrassing question?

She paused for a moment, finished her breakfast quickly, then put on shoes and ran upstairs like escaping: “Mom! I’m going upstairs to play on the computer.”

“Wait!”

“What’s up?”

“Get dressed and clean up, we’re going to the police station.”

So it was time to sort out her identity?

An Han turned toward her mother expectantly, and sure enough, her mother smiled and explained: “We’ll take a photo, fill out a form, and in a week you can get your ID card.”

“That simple?”

“All the procedures have been taken care of.”

She nodded thoughtfully. Although she didn’t fully understand the procedures… the new identity was a system reward, and given how magical the system was, a new ID card should be easily handled.

Just then, a woman in her fifties came in carrying a bag.

An Han was startled, but the woman had already spotted her.

“Xiao Wu, whose daughter is this? She bought two cakes at my place last night,” Aunt Wang said, her eyes crinkling with a smile.

Her mother glanced at An Han, silently asking if she was ready.

An Han hesitated, knowing that sooner or later her identity would be exposed, and forced a smile: “Mom, you handle it.”

Aunt Wang was surprised by An Han’s address: “Already married? Xiao Han is just in her early twenties.”

Not wanting to face Aunt Wang’s astonished expression, An Han quickly ran upstairs two steps at a time.

“Sis! Wait for me!” her sister called, holding the sandwich. “I want to play games!”

She rushed into her room, while An Han listened to the conversation downstairs. Unfortunately, the soundproofing was too good to hear anything.

She stretched, turned on her computer, and was about to call Su Peng to duo in a game to relieve stress.

But her sister barged in: “Sis, I want to play on the computer!”

“Go play on your tablet!”

“Then I’ll tell Mom about your love life!”

An Han froze, utterly confused. “Since when did I have a love life?”

“When you were a freshman.”

“Oh… say what you want then.”
