Chapter 249 246. The First Day of the Lunar New Year

Feb 05, 2026 1,322 words

By the time she woke up, it was nearly noon.

On the first day of the Lunar New Year, An Han changed into a khaki trench coat her father had bought her and yawned as she walked downstairs.

Looking down the stairs, she saw her father holding his old back, busy preparing lunch at the dining table.

“Dad, why are you cooking today?”

Her father turned to look at An Han and put yesterday’s leftover food into the microwave. “Your mom’s busy today; she’s probably tired and hasn’t gotten up yet. Anyway, it’s just leftovers—heat it up and it’s ready to eat.”

“Oh~”

An Han nodded thoughtfully. Looks like her mother really had a hard time last night.

She felt a bit uneasy—apparently, she couldn’t casually let a man see her medical report. Its effects were even scarier than Wei Ge’s, and she didn’t know if it might have an arousal effect. If it turned someone into a “wolf,” she might get herself involved.

She sat at the dining table, waiting for her lunch while carefully recalling her father’s expression when he saw the report yesterday. Even if there were arousal effects, they probably weren’t much, right? Otherwise, her father wouldn’t have seemed so calm last night, and after leaving, he still went downstairs with her mother to pay respects to their ancestors and clean up. Only after nearly an hour did things quiet down.

Maybe the report would only cause excessive vigor and stamina.

An Han rested her chin on her hand, considering whether she could let Su Peng see the medical report. Although Su Peng knew she had become female midway through, because she had been vague and evasive, he usually could only guess why she became a woman, just like her parents before.

It might be okay to let her mother see the report—showing it to a woman would only make her hair grow a few centimeters.

“An Han, where’s your sister?” her mother’s voice came from the stairs.

An Han instinctively looked up and saw her mother looking radiant, her smile gentle and kind, her tone calm. Her mother seemed to be in good spirits, though her way of going downstairs was a bit awkward.

“She’s still brushing her teeth.”

Her mother nodded, casually put on the slippers she used downstairs, and walked over to her father, muttering lightly, “Let me do it—you’re so clumsy.”

Watching her parents working together preparing lunch, An Han quietly walked toward the living room.

They really had made up, even giving off the feeling of being a couple just starting to date.

But as a singleton, An Han couldn’t stand watching this.

On the first day of the Lunar New Year, faint firecracker sounds could still be heard outside. The streets were littered with firecracker paper, and pedestrians were sparse. Many shops had no plans to open before the fifteenth day.

“An Han, we’re going to visit relatives this afternoon,” her father said, placing a bowl of noodles on the coffee table with a pair of chopsticks. “Are you coming?”

The leftovers from last night had been combined by her mother into a richly prepared noodle bowl.

“Which relatives?”

“We’re going to your aunt’s house.”

If it were aunts, uncles, or other relatives who already knew about her situation and were worrying about cousin marriages, that would be fine. But going to her aunt’s house made An Han a bit nervous.

She picked a large shrimp from the noodles, peeled it while keeping her head down, and asked, “Dad, what do you think?”

“That place is a bit far. You and your sister should stay home,” her father replied.

He was still concerned with appearances. Even though he had accepted An Han’s gender, he couldn’t yet bear the thought of being judged or gossiped about by others. Recently, he always wore a scarf covering his mouth and nose when going out, afraid of drawing attention from neighbors.

“Okay.”

An Han, feeling timid, didn’t hesitate to agree.

Only then did her sister lazily wander downstairs, while her father added beside An Han, “We’ll probably be back in a day or two. There’s food in the fridge—just heat it up. I’ll give you some money so you can go out to eat sometimes.”

Most of the aunts’ houses were far away. Visiting them usually took a day or two.

“Really?!”

Before An Han could react, her sister had already leaped up with excitement.

“When are you leaving?” She clearly had been looking forward to her parents leaving so she could go wild at home.

Imagining staying up late, playing on her sister’s computer all night, sleeping whenever she wanted… her sister’s face lit up with excitement and anticipation as she looked at her father.

Seeing her sister like this, her father suddenly felt a bit uneasy.

Her mother walked over leisurely, her smile gentle: “Let’s leave now, the earlier we go, the earlier we’ll be back.”

“Great!”

Then her mother grabbed her sister’s hoodie, pressed her down onto the sofa, and said, “Hurry up and put on your socks and shoes. I’ll comb your hair too.”

“???”

Her sister’s body stiffened, her smile and sparkle fading, looking like a puppet being manipulated by her mother.

An Han almost laughed out loud. She took the cash her father had given her and happily finished the entire bowl of noodles.

She had been worried about losing authority as a girl and controlling her sister while her parents were away, but it seemed her mother already had a plan.

“Have fun. I’ll watch the house,” her sister mumbled, glancing at her, “You’ll probably be chatting with lots of handsome guys while we’re gone.”

“......”

The atmosphere in the room froze for a moment. An Han’s expression changed. “That’s slander!”

“She’s on the phone with handsome guys every night! For hours at a time!”

“Lies! Not hours at a time!”

Her parents sighed almost simultaneously, unable to understand how An Han, just by becoming a girl, had suddenly learned how to flirt. Academically she wasn’t outstanding, but in this area, she was naturally gifted.

They exchanged a worried glance.

“Just classmates playing games together, okay!” An Han shouted, defending herself. “How is gaming together suddenly considered calling?!”

Her parents didn’t say much, just nodded as if acknowledging her excuse, then efficiently packed their things and helped her sister get ready to go visit relatives.

An Han lay on the sofa in boredom, watching her family busy themselves, feeling like her reputation had been ruined by her sister.

But if Su Peng suddenly came by these two days, she wouldn’t have to worry about her parents kicking him out.

“Oh, Mom!”

Before leaving, An Han suddenly jumped up from the sofa and called after her mother.

“What’s wrong?”

“Come look at my medical report!”

“It’s with me,” her mother said, putting down her things and walking into the living room. She froze when she saw An Han holding the system tool.

After a moment, she nodded in understanding. “I see… Does your father know?”

“He knows!”

The side effect immediately took effect on her hair. An Han noticed her vision blur slightly as her bangs grew longer.

She brushed the hair that now covered her eyes aside and touched the hair at the back of her head. It had already grown back to the length it was at her last haircut.
