Chapter 238 235. Respecting Your Sexual Orientation
“DogeCoin system ruined my youth!”
“If it weren’t for the system, I’d already have a girlfriend by now!”
Early in the morning, An Han had a toothbrush in her mouth, mumbling complaints with slurred speech. Her eyes were still slightly red and puffy; yesterday her mood had been bad, but fortunately, after parting with Lin Yue, her awakened male consciousness had gradually been suppressed and buried deep within.
The painful sense of being torn apart was gone, along with the regret and self-blame.
Sure enough, it was better to focus her energy on tasks.
Her father’s affection toward her had already reached eighty-seven points, seven of which were probably because she obediently attended the matchmaking meeting.
【Lin Yue: Affection 64】
Almost instinctively, An Han checked Lin Yue’s affection for her. It had been increasing.
She frowned tightly. “This can’t go on.”
Before parting with Lin Yue yesterday, they had planned to go to Walmart together today, but now she intended to skip it. She couldn’t bring herself to hurt the girl her male consciousness liked.
An Han sighed heavily, spat out the foam from her mouth, and rubbed some face wash in her hands before applying it to her face.
“Seriously, how did I end up in this situation?”
“When I’ve already become a girl, and my male consciousness is about to disappear completely, I encounter the seemingly perfect girl.”
An Han complained about herself, forcing a smile. “I feel a bit neurotic.”
“Bro~” her sister suddenly knocked on the door and reminded her from outside the bathroom, “Mom said to remember your skincare.”
“Got it~”
She was only being lazy… using multiple skincare products would waste twenty minutes—time she could’ve spent sitting in front of the computer with a soda, casually playing a game of Mahjong Soul.
After finishing her routine, An Han stretched and examined herself in the mirror. Her complexion had dulled again, and her features looked harsher under makeup. She reached for her chest binder but hesitated.
It had been three days; it was time for her father to notice something.
Her father’s affection was already steady in the eighties. When Long Xing Su Peng had similarly high affection, she had tried everything but couldn’t lower it. With such high affection, even if she revealed everything directly, her father would hardly scold her harshly.
“To be completely stable, it should reach ninety-plus, even a hundred.”
Family acceptance of her gender could completely suppress her remaining male consciousness.
But she didn’t want to repeat yesterday’s ordeal.
Determined, An Han put away the chest binder and didn’t use it.
The sound of the door opening came from downstairs—her father returning from buying breakfast. “Come on down, it’s time to eat!”
Just from the sound, An Han sensed that her father seemed in a bad mood.
Curious, she peeked down from the second-floor stairs and saw him sitting alone at the table, motionless, lost in thought.
Realizing something, she nervously walked downstairs. Sure enough, as soon as she arrived, her father turned to look at her, scanning her up and down.
“What’s wrong?” An Han straightened nervously.
“Nothing,” he said, frowning, handing her a bag of fried dough sticks. “Go get a bowl for it.”
On the table, besides several bags of fried dough sticks, there were some triangle cakes, shrimp crackers, and youtiao as side dishes—common local breakfast foods that An Han had practically grown up eating.
She measured the dough sticks into a bowl and sat down with her father. While eating, she occasionally glanced up to read his expression.
Her mother was still upstairs braiding her sister’s hair, and she could faintly hear her mother scolding her sister.
“Why are people outside saying you’re a girl?” her father suddenly asked.
He had already noticed neighbors gossiping when they went out; today, he fully realized the rumors.
An Han stiffened, lowering her head and continuing her breakfast, replying casually, “How would I know?”
Her father looked at her deeply, trusting his son’s words, nodded, and comforted her: “Just a bunch of idle old men and women. Don’t take what they say too seriously.”
“Mm.”
She got through it lightly. High affection made his words easy to trust.
“How was your time with Lin Yue yesterday?” Her father quickly forgot the rumors and focused on her future, “I heard Lin Yue is quite pleased with you.”
Hearing the mention of that girl, An Han felt a sharp pang in her heart. She looked displeased and silently shook her head.
If she were still a man, she would have obeyed her father and spent more time with Lin Yue. But now, she couldn’t.
“What? Lin Yue is pretty, an overseas student, and her personality is nice…”
“I’m not good enough for her,” An Han interrupted.
She lowered her head, her hands trembling slightly as she held her spoon.
If this had been before the system, she would’ve chosen Lin Yue without hesitation. But now, as a girl, the only part of her that liked Lin Yue was her suppressed male consciousness.
If her male consciousness took over her mind, she would feel intense rejection and pain due to the conflict with her female body and gender.
Her father stared at her in shock, unsure what to say.
Abruptly, he noticed the movement of her chest. He was about to ask, but her sister suddenly came rushing downstairs:
“Dad! Take me to Water World today! I want to go play in the water!”
“Playing in the water in this cold?” Her father’s words were interrupted, and he patted her head kindly, “How about we wait until summer?”
“You’re not home in summer anyway~”
“I’ll be back for summer vacation next year, okay?”
Her sister pouted, carrying a chair to sit next to An Han.
“Can we go buy toys together later?”
“Sure!” Her sister’s previously gloomy face instantly brightened.
With her sister appeased, her father breathed a small sigh of relief. Then he looked at An Han, massaging his temples, and asked: “You’re not into boys, are you?”
An Han looked up in disbelief.
She frowned slightly. “Just because I don’t like Lin Yue doesn’t mean I like boys?”
“Well, what if you really do like boys?”
Her father seemed unconcerned, picking up a triangle cake with a smile: “Then I’d respect your sexual orientation.”
It sounded like a joke. He didn’t take the words seriously.
But An Han remembered them clearly, nodding: “Mm, got it.”
Someday, when she really brings a boyfriend home, she could use this line when her father gets angry.
Too bad there was no recording.
Though it would be best if her mother were present, otherwise her father might get embarrassed and lash out…
