Chapter 176 174. Wang Sheng’s Ultimate Social-Death Match

Jan 16, 2026 1,436 words

Wang Sheng was utterly focused. His arm swung widely as he controlled the mouse, his body unconsciously leaning forward, his eyes nearly pressed against the screen as he refused to miss a single detail in the game.

His mouth kept moving nonstop, almost constantly directing his socially withdrawn teammate, Wang Yu.

The opponents were strong—their average skill level was clearly higher than his team’s—but it was obvious they were only a hastily assembled squad. When it came to actual coordination, they were like a loose pile of sand. Compared to Wang Sheng’s team, which had been preparing for the competition for half a month, their execution was far inferior.

“We’re about to win! Steady, steady!” “Don’t choke in the final round!”

An open-air stage under the blazing afternoon sun. Even though cold air had already moved south, after being exposed to the sun for over an hour, Wang Sheng was drenched in sweat.

Even with his headset on, he could vaguely hear the commentator and the crowd cheering, which made his blood boil—as if he were competing on the world championship stage.

“We won!”

Amid thunderous applause, Wang Sheng suddenly stood up, tore off his headset, and excitedly swept his gaze across the nearly hundred spectators in front of the stage. The wave-like cheers made him even more exhilarated. He raised both hands high—at this moment, he had reached the peak of his life.

Su Peng really came through!

If Su Peng hadn’t found sponsorship, there was no way this competition could’ve happened.

Wang Sheng turned his head toward the side of the stage, looking at Su Peng sitting on the edge of a flower bed with a faint smile, and nodded at him firmly.

Although there weren’t many spectators or even many opponents in this competition, he still felt immensely satisfied.

It’s really great to have a roommate like An Han—helping me realize my dream of competing…

“2021 Campus Esports Cup Champion Captain Wang Sheng—Now Seeking Marriage!” “2021 Campus Esports Cup Champion Captain Wang Sheng—Now Seeking Marriage!”

The words of gratitude in Wang Sheng’s mind were instantly cut off. Dumbfounded, he looked toward the restless crowd, then toward the distant end of the plaza.

A two-meter-long banner was being held high by a tall figure. Beside him stood a petite, cute girl, holding a loudspeaker that kept looping the recording.

Though the distance was too far to see clearly who they were, Wang Sheng had already guessed—no, he was certain of their identities.

“What kind of karma did I rack up to end up with roommates like these…”

Already introverted by nature, his face turned beet red as he covered it with his hands, as if he could feel the piercing, gossip-filled stares from the onlookers below the stage.

Why did Long Bro have to go along with An Han’s nonsense too?!

“Champions, please come to the center of the stage!” The host walked up, calling out to Wang Sheng. “Let us witness the birth of the CS:GO champion of the Campus Esports Cup!”

Wang Sheng was so embarrassed he could barely lift his head. Step by step, extremely unwilling, he followed Wang Yu to the host’s side.

“This here is our champion team captain—Wang Sheng!”

His toes were practically digging out a three-bedroom apartment in the ground…

“The host definitely did that on purpose,” An Han said from afar as she heard the announcement. Seeing Wang Sheng’s expression—like he was naked despite winning the championship—her mood instantly improved. She laughed gleefully. “Wang Sheng’s about to get famous~”

“What if he actually gets a girlfriend out of it?” Long Xing thought a bit further.

“How’s that possible?”

An Han tucked the looping loudspeaker under her arm and called out to a passing female student. “Hey, pretty girl! Interested? Scan the QR code and add the champion captain on WeChat!”

She tugged at the QR code hanging from her chest by a thin string, but the girl ran away with a terrified expression.

“See? Wang Sheng has zero luck with women.”

After being tormented by the system for so long—forced into all kinds of embarrassing, socially lethal situations—she was finally the one tormenting someone else.

An Han beamed brightly, sweet and adorable, her eyes full of satisfied delight. Long Xing, however, quietly took two steps back, widening the distance between them.

This flower had thorns—and an owner. Not someone to mess with.

Poor Wang Sheng. One wrong step and—social death.

Thinking this, Long Xing raised the banner even higher and suggested, “How about we hang it somewhere?”

“Ask Wang Yu if we can hang it on the stage, then take it down before the next match starts.”

Laughing and chatting, the two walked toward the stage. An Han set the loudspeaker on a plastic chair and quickly ran off to avoid getting dragged into her own social death, while Long Xing took out some tape, looking for a place to stick the banner.

“Long Bro! Put it right on the front of the stage—guaranteed everyone watching can see it!” An Han shouted instructions from afar.

Now closer, she could feel those resentful, aggrieved eyes fixed on her. She looked toward the stage with crescent-moon eyes, tiptoed, and waved at Wang Sheng.

That look became even more pitiful—he looked like he was about to cry.

“How did you come up with something like this after just one or two hours away?” a voice said behind her.

“Got a problem with it?” An Han replied without turning her head. She knew it was Su Peng just from the voice. “I’m just here to join the fun—and help my roommate solve his singlehood problem.”

“And your disciple’s singlehood still isn’t solved, is it?”

“……”

She finally turned around, looking at Su Peng’s gentle, slightly teasing smile. Angrily, she spat at the ground. “Traitorous disciple! I don’t have a disciple like you!”

Their so-called master–disciple relationship was just a joke, but An Han had originally thought she’d be the one taking advantage by calling Su Peng her “disciple.”

Now, every time she was called “Master,” she felt like she was the one being taken advantage of!

After taping up the banner and placing the loudspeaker beneath it, Long Xing turned to walk toward An Han—but suddenly noticed Su Peng.

His steps paused, and without hesitation, he headed in the opposite direction.

An Han noticed Long Xing’s reaction and wondered whether there was some unknown conflict between him and Su Peng.

Thinking about it carefully, the only conflict seemed to be that they both liked her…

“Why isn’t Long Xing coming over?” Su Peng asked curiously, seemingly completely on guard against nothing.

“How would I know? Maybe he wants to be the first to congratulate Wang Sheng.”

An Han didn’t want to talk about Long Xing any further. Standing casually with her hands in her pockets, she turned her head and asked, “You were involved in the sponsorship, right?”

“I just helped connect the dots.”

“You paid the prize money?”

“I—”

Before he could finish, she cut him off. “The condition for helping with the sponsorship was that Wang Sheng gives the prize money to me, right?”

Su Peng smiled innocently, radiant under the sunlight.

An Han’s heartbeat sped up slightly. Her deliberately masculine stance unconsciously tightened as she pressed her thighs together. She turned her head away, refusing to look at that infuriating face. “I thought I was overthinking it—but it really is true.”

“You said you wanted to move out, needed money, and would rather borrow from your roommates than from me,” Su Peng paused. “If you won’t borrow from me, I can’t exactly shove money into your pocket.”

“Isn’t it good that I don’t borrow money from you? Aren’t you afraid I won’t pay it back?”

Su Peng narrowed his eyes slightly and nodded. “If you owed me money, I’d be thrilled.”

“……”

As expected, this guy just wants to bind me with all these little favors!
