Chapter 155 153. The Fitness Club
After finishing lunch in the cafeteria, An Han’s mind was completely filled with thoughts about money.
Her living allowance was two thousand. Normally, that was more than enough, but renting a place outside required a deposit, plus commercial water and electricity fees. The first month’s rental expenses were something she simply couldn’t afford.
She could force herself to manage, but she didn’t want to live on plain noodles every day.
Borrow money from Su Peng?
Her gaze fell on Su Peng, yet she couldn’t bring herself to speak.
As for other close classmates, none of them were rich second-generation kids. Borrowing a few dozen or a hundred yuan might be okay, but several hundred was just too difficult.
Asking her family for money was even harder. She didn’t know how to bring it up. Every time she called home, her mother would complain about how tight finances were, and besides, she didn’t even have a proper reason.
On the way from the cafeteria back to the dormitory, they passed a large square. The stages for things like the school’s Top Ten Singers competition and e-sports tournaments were usually set up here.
At this moment, however, the square was suddenly filled with large sun umbrellas and tables. Posters stood along one side, and students excitedly handed out flyers to passersby.
“This is…”
“Freshman club recruitment.”
“Oh~”
An Han nodded thoughtfully, her eyes sweeping past the cosplay of the anime club, the roller-skating club showing off their skills, and the guitar club’s performance.
Suddenly, she seemed to remember something. Her eyes lit up, and she abruptly turned and jogged toward a corner of the square.
Su Peng hurried after her. Moments later, he followed An Han to a massive banyan tree.
“Careful.” An Han suddenly stopped, grabbed Su Peng’s wrist, and pulled him into a hidden patch of shade. “Wait and watch the show.”
“That’s… the fitness club?”
“Yep!”
A look of mischievous delight appeared in An Han’s eyes, her lips curling upward uncontrollably. “Long Xing is out there this year too.”
The fitness club’s setup consisted of only two tables. Since they were under the tree, there wasn’t even a sun umbrella. A half-person-tall poster read “Fitness Club” in huge characters. Sitting at the table were Wang Yu, expressionless as ever, and Long Xing, his face planted on the tabletop.
“Do you know the fitness club’s tradition?” An Han asked excitedly, standing on her tiptoes to look over.
“I think… I’ve heard of it?” Su Peng tried to recall.
“Every time they recruit new members, they pick a few people with the best results to be in charge of—”
An Han paused, not explaining further. Her tone was full of schadenfreude. “That’s why Wang Yu always wants to drag me to the gym, but I’ve never had any interest.”
“Is there a problem with being in charge of recruitment?”
“Just watch.”
She glanced at a nearby vending machine, hurried over to buy a bottle of cola, then hesitated and bought one for Su Peng as well.
Paying back favors should start with small things, bit by bit.
Otherwise, the favor she owed Su Peng would be something she could never repay in this lifetime.
She also shouldn’t keep trying to take advantage of him anymore…
An Han jogged back to Su Peng and handed him the cola. “Here.”
“Thanks.” Even though the cola only cost three yuan, Su Peng’s smile became noticeably warmer. He was clearly in a good mood.
At that moment, there was movement at the fitness club.
First was Wang Yu. Still wearing his usual iceberg expression, he silently stood up and took off his shirt, leaving only a pair of tight shorts on his body.
He walked over to the poster and suddenly flexed, the muscles of his upper body bulging dramatically. Then he raised his arms overhead and struck a bodybuilder’s pose.
“Pfft!”
An Han burst out laughing. Seeing Wang Yu’s serious, expressionless face while he performed such an embarrassing act created such a strong contrast that she couldn’t hold it in.
“But his body really is amazing~”
Su Peng silently stepped forward, blocking An Han’s view.
“Why are you blocking me? Brother Long is about to perform too!”
An Han leaned sideways and poked her head out from behind Su Peng. “But you really should block me. If Brother Long sees me, he definitely won’t dare come out.”
Wang Yu’s strenuous performance didn’t attract many girls. Instead, several guys gathered nearby, standing three to five meters away and pointing at him.
Some were envious; others thought there was something wrong with his head…
After a while, Long Xing finally finished psyching himself up. He stood and took off his shirt as well.
His face was clearly flushed, his heart probably filled with extreme embarrassment. Yet his well-built body and the tattoos on his arms gave him an intimidating, gangster-like aura.
An Han laughed again, bending over so hard she could barely straighten up.
“So when you joined the fitness club in your freshman year, did they perform like this too?” Su Peng turned to look at An Han, who was laughing nonstop. “You… what were you thinking back then?”
An Han’s smile vanished abruptly. She raised her head and muttered, “I thought their atmosphere was pretty good—really goofy… and I did want to work out back then.”
“It was mainly the muscles! They’re really great!” She got excited again, eyes shining as she pointed at Long Xing. “Right? Right? Excessive fitness really does attract men!”
Watching her flushed, excited expression, Su Peng began to suspect that she simply liked muscular men.
Fortunately, although his own muscles weren’t very obvious, he had trained in combat for years. With some focused gym training, he should be able to catch up to Long Xing quickly.
“Brother Long’s face is as red as a monkey’s butt!”
An Han took out her phone and snapped several photos of Long Xing, then turned the camera toward Wang Yu. “Let’s take a few of him too. We can use them to threaten them later.”
Although Wang Yu and Long Xing’s bodybuilding show looked like a clown act at a club recruitment event, it genuinely attracted a lot of freshmen. In just ten minutes, An Han noticed that from her angle, the view was blocked by a wall of people, and she could no longer see Long Xing’s embarrassed expression.
“What a pity.”
If she squeezed forward to watch, Long Xing would probably cover his face and run away.
That scene actually sounded pretty interesting.
She turned to Su Peng, about to suggest heading back, when she noticed that he had somehow taken off his jacket and rolled his short sleeves up to his shoulders, revealing solid biceps and powerful muscle lines.
Long Xing and Wang Yu’s muscles leaned toward bodybuilding, while Su Peng’s looked more practical—similar to Bruce Lee’s type—and more in line with general aesthetics.
“Let’s go. There’s nothing worth watching anymore.” She didn’t pay attention to Su Peng’s behavior. After a glance, her gaze shifted to the other clubs’ performances, and her feet headed straight toward the dormitory building.
Su Peng didn’t say anything, just casually showing off his arm muscles as he walked beside her.
“By the way, are you in a combat club? Is there even such a club?”
“I didn’t join any clubs.”
“No wonder you can’t find a girlfriend… When I was a freshman, I found a girlfriend in the fitness club!” An Han looked up at Su Peng, proudly showing off her one and only relationship. “Too bad I couldn’t beat her. I got beaten up for no reason all the time, so we broke up.”
Su Peng glanced at her small frame and imagined the build of a fitness club girl.
“You probably haven’t even had a first love, right? No, wait—you hung out a lot outside during junior and senior high. You must’ve had girlfriends…”
At this moment, whether he had or not, Su Peng instinctively answered, “No.”
“Then you’re really pathetic!”
