Chapter 281 278. Three Rules

Mar 31, 2026 1,358 words

“Feeling better?”

“Mm.”

After grabbing her sister, forcing her into the bathroom to thoroughly dry her hair, making her drink hot water, and use a hand warmer, An Han’s condition had clearly improved.

She hadn’t actually hit her sister. An Han simply couldn’t bring herself to do it—otherwise she would’ve beaten her until she cried for her parents long ago, instead of letting her have the chance to run away.

Still, her complexion didn’t look very good. She appeared a bit pale and exhausted. At the moment she sat curled up at the head of the bed, hugging her knees with both hands, looking particularly delicate.

Seeing that she seemed a bit better, her father let out a sigh of relief and placed lunch on the computer desk.

“You refused to go to the hospital no matter what.”

“But I’m fine now, aren’t I?”

An Han raised her head and looked at Su Peng, who was standing hesitantly at the doorway.

“Why aren’t you coming in?”

“Well…”

Putting aside whether barging into a girl’s room was appropriate, just the blazing glare from his future father-in-law alone made Su Peng suspect that the moment he stepped inside, his legs might immediately be broken.

So he only dared to stand outside the door, staring at the pitiful-looking An Han. His heart ached for her, yet he didn’t dare step inside, afraid that her father’s impression of him would worsen.

Her father glanced toward Su Peng at the door, frowned deeply, then sighed helplessly.

“You eat first. After you finish, I’ll come up and clean up.”

“Okay.”

An Han watched her father leave the room. Her eyes instantly lit up and she quickly waved at Su Peng.

Only after her father went downstairs did Su Peng hurry into the room.

The bedroom didn’t really have the feeling of a typical girl’s room. There were no cute ornaments or plush toys, nor any pink wallpaper. Just a bed, a wardrobe, a computer desk, and a study desk. Aside from the faint girlish fragrance lingering in the air, it looked like any ordinary bedroom.

He walked over to An Han and gently helped her sit up, as if he were caring for a seriously ill patient. His face was full of caution.

“Be careful.”

“I’m not so weak that I can’t even walk, and my stomach doesn’t hurt anymore.”

An Han muttered a little unhappily as she sat at the computer desk with his support.

On the desk were several small bowls of food her father had prepared. She picked up her chopsticks and was about to eat when she suddenly looked up at Su Peng standing beside her.

“Why are you staring at me?”

“…”

“Have you eaten?”

“Yeah, I just ate downstairs.”

An Han nodded, then glanced toward the door again. Seeing her movement, Su Peng also quickly turned his head, but didn’t see her father anywhere.

For a moment he thought the man might be secretly watching again.

An Han’s father had already given Su Peng a bit of psychological trauma.

He pulled over a chair and sat beside her, asking with concern:

“How do you feel now?”

“It’s fine. It doesn’t hurt anymore.”

“That’s good.”

Only then did An Han realize why some girls liked pretending to be pitiful and acting cute.

Being protected by a man and treated gently actually felt really nice.

Even just a few words of concern could brighten her mood.

Too bad Su Peng would be leaving soon.

“You’re going back tomorrow?” she asked.

“The day after tomorrow. I’m still a little worried…” Su Peng paused and smiled helplessly. “But your parents can take care of you.”

“Mm.”

Resting his chin on one hand on the table, he watched An Han chew slowly and elegantly. Sunlight from the window fell across her skin, making her look almost like a painting.

Without her parents around to interrupt, just sitting here quietly watching her eat made him feel increasingly calm. The winter cold pricked his skin, but there was always a trace of warmth in his heart.

“Big sister! Big sister!”

Her younger sister suddenly ran in noisily.

“Mom cooked another dish!”

She carried a small bowl filled with freshly stir-fried bitter melon and placed it on the desk.

“Mom said you have to finish all the dishes. No leaving leftovers!”

“So much…” An Han frowned, especially at the bitter melon, which she hated.

“Well, that’s because you’re not healthy!”

Isn’t it your fault?!

An Han glared at her sister, casually picked up a piece of bitter melon, and held it toward Su Peng’s mouth.

“You’re responsible for this.”

“And eat some of this tomato too. I only like the eggs.”

“You can eat more chives. I don’t like them.”

Su Peng froze for a moment before instinctively accepting the food she kept feeding him.

“Sis! That’s an indirect kiss!”

Her sister shouted from the side.

An Han raised her hand and smacked the girl’s butt.

“If you dare tell Mom and Dad, I won’t spare you tonight!”

“Hmph!”

After generously sharing the food with Su Peng, only the meat dishes remained in An Han’s bowl.

Feeling a little embarrassed, she stuffed the most delicious sweet-and-sour pork into Su Peng’s mouth as well.

“This is too sweet. It’s kind of sour.”

“I like sweet food.”

Su Peng nodded without saying anything, already thinking about asking the cook at his house to learn some sweet-and-sour dishes so that next time An Han visited his home, she could eat her favorite flavors.

“Dad! They’re being so lovey-dovey!”

Su Peng jolted and quickly looked toward the door, only to see a figure standing there. No one knew how long he had been there.

Su Peng immediately stood up, but An Han grabbed his arm and pushed him back down.

She raised her eyebrows at her father, clearly showing her stance.

“Finished eating?” her father asked expressionlessly, his voice calm and steady.

“Mm.” An Han hurriedly picked up her bowl and shoveled the rest of the rice into her mouth.

Just moments ago she had been eating slowly and elegantly in front of Su Peng, but now she quickly finished the rest of the food without any regard for manners.

Her father walked forward and collected the bowls and chopsticks.

“Su Peng, come downstairs with me. Don’t disturb An Han’s rest.”

“Okay.”

Su Peng realized that his future father-in-law probably wanted to have a serious talk with him.

His nerves tightened as he followed. Feeling An Han’s worried gaze behind him, he turned back and gave her a reassuring smile.

Her sister wanted to go watch the drama, but An Han grabbed her arm.

“You stay here and do your homework!”

“Oh…” the sister muttered, looking at the cola beside the desk. “Sis, I want to drink iced cola.”

“Drink it in a few days.”

“But your stomach hurts too, and you can drink it.”

An Han rolled up her sleeves. Her sister immediately shrank back and quickly sat at her small desk.

“No junk food!”

She tapped her sister’s head, then quietly ran out of the room, barefoot, sneaking down the stairs and stopping halfway between the first and second floor.

From there she couldn’t see her father and Su Peng, but she could hear them clearly.

“Before marriage, you’re not allowed to touch her.”

“Yes!”

“Engagement and marriage have to wait until An Han is at least twenty-five.”

“Okay!”

“If she ever suffers any grievance, I…”

“I’ll slap myself twice first.”

…Were those the three rules?
