Chapter 83 083. Lin Yi
An Han had never been to an anime convention in his life. He’d originally been looking forward to this one with some anticipation—but now that he’d learned Long Xing and Chen Junjie would also be attending, that excitement had turned entirely into anxiety.
Who knew why things had to line up so perfectly? If he even thought about the possibility of running into them at the convention… well, based on his lifelong experience, “what if” always became “what actually happened.”
He let out a miserable groan and trudged toward the campus courier station with a gloomy expression.
Ever since encountering the system, he’d run into plenty of thrilling incidents—yet every single one left him terrified, and none ever worked out in his favor.
It was as if the system had cursed him.
Since it was just after class, and he’d arrived late, the courier station’s queue stretched nearly ten meters long.
An Han stepped into line, still lost in thought about his current task.
It’s just wearing women’s clothing for one day. The worst that could happen is my friends find out I’m a cross-dresser—but honestly, that would only lead to social death.
In truth, even without cross-dressing, most of my friends already treat me like a girl anyway.
Except that piece-of-trash Chen Junjie!
He’s as sharp-tongued as ever, always looking for a chance to insult me. Even Wu Dongming, my closest buddy, has grown more restrained around me lately, moderating his behavior—yet Chen Junjie remains stubbornly unchanged, never missing an opportunity to mock me.
But... girls wearing dresses is totally normal!
With this self-reassurance, his nervousness eased slightly—even though he knew he was probably just fooling himself.
He entered the bustling courier station and, following his pickup number, located his qipao on the shelves.
Glancing briefly at the shipping label, he didn’t pay it much mind and walked over to the counter.
“Picking up a parcel,” he said.
“An Han?”
He turned toward the voice, surprised. “Lin Yi?”
Lin Yi was the girl An Han had once tried to set up with Su Peng—tall, good-looking, with cute dimples and tiger teeth that showed whenever she smiled. She’d always been openly infatuated with Su Peng in class, but unfortunately, she already had a boyfriend.
They’d spoken briefly before and vaguely recognized each other. An Han asked casually,
“Picking up a package too? What’s in such a big box?”
“Some fabric—for making clothes,” Lin Yi replied, then peeked at the parcel in An Han’s hands. “Clothes? A qipao?”
An Han froze instantly.
Damn it! The seller printed the item description right on the shipping label!
“You bought a qipao?” Lin Yi beamed up at him. “You should’ve told me earlier—I’ve got some! You could’ve borrowed one from me.”
“I’ve got… several sets…”
Who knew you had that kind of talent? Even if I did know, there’s no way I’d ask you for a qipao to wear!
That would be way too embarrassing!
“It’s for someone else,” An Han calmly explained as he waited for the staff to scan his parcel and hand it back.
As soon as he got it, he immediately turned and hurried out of the courier station, terrified Lin Yi might ask another embarrassing question.
...Though strangely enough, he was already starting to get used to this.
In the past, he’d have turned bright red with embarrassment, but now he only felt his heart race a little and a reflexive panic—nothing more.
We’re not that close anyway. Even if she finds out, so what?
He tried comforting himself, then tore off the shipping label and tossed it into a nearby trash bin.
Can’t let my roommates find out. Gotta act as normal as possible.
“An Han!”
But Lin Yi jogged after him, her smile radiant. Before she even spoke, a strange chill swept over An Han’s entire body.
He turned, startled, and looked her up and down, confused about where that sudden shiver had come from.
Lin Yi studied him closely. She rarely interacted with An Han before and had only thought he was unusually delicate-looking—but now, standing so close, she realized he wasn’t just delicate. Aside from his current outfit, he looked just like a girl!
This pleased her even more.
“What do you want?” An Han took a wary step back.
“Qipaos that cost only thirty or forty yuan feel really cheap when you wear them,” Lin Yi said sweetly, her tiger teeth flashing in a grin far too similar to the one An Han himself wore whenever he was about to scam someone.
Got it! This girl’s trying to trap me!
An Han instantly recognized her trick—after all, when he schemed to con someone, his smile was just as unnervingly sweet.
“What do you want?” He braced himself defensively. “I told you—it’s my friend’s clothes.”
“Then why’s your name on the shipping label?”
“I bought it for a friend—what’s so weird about that?”
He tried to justify himself, but Lin Yi’s expression made it clear she didn’t believe a word.
“I’m from the anime club, you know?” Lin Yi suddenly hooked her arm through his, delighting in how soft his arm felt.
She’s absolutely convinced I’m a girl now...
An Han tried to pull away, but worried his arm might brush against… certain places, so he didn’t dare struggle too hard—just as Lin Yi asked,
“We’re short one person for an event at the weekend convention. Interested?”
“Huh?” An Han was stunned—he hadn’t expected this coincidence. “Tell me more?”
Lin Yi cut straight to the point: “I landed a modeling gig for a vintage-style clothing shop. They need a girl over 165cm with a pretty face—and we’re one person short. Want to fill in for me?”
“I’m a guy!”
She glanced at him skeptically and rolled her eyes. “Who’d be able to tell once you put on a dress?”
“Don’t you have other friends?”
“The anime club members are either cosplaying already, too short, or the shop owner said they’re not pretty enough.” Lin Yi shrugged helplessly. “What can I do?”
“Well…”
He’d only planned to wear a qipao and wander around the convention for a day—but now she wanted him to be an actual model?
“I’ll pay you five hundred yuan for the day!”
“I… I’ll think about it?” An Han shook his head miserably. “And I’m only interested in qipaos.”
“Oh~? But didn’t you just say you bought it for a friend?”
“…”
If you’ve figured it out, at least don’t say it out loud! Do you have any idea how embarrassing this is?!
An Han finally pulled his arm free from Lin Yi’s grasp and practically fled back toward the dorms like his life depended on it.
After sprinting several hundred meters, he finally glanced back—Lin Yi hadn’t followed.
He collapsed onto a nearby flower bed, gasping for breath.
That girl! She’s terrifying!
It wasn’t just her invitation to model at the convention—more than that, the way she looked at him reminded him of a cat playing with a new toy, brimming with mischievous delight.
No way am I going to the convention with her! Not even if she pays me!
After catching his breath and calming his heaving chest—*has my stamina really gotten worse?*—he looked up at the dorm building ahead.
Now I need to find a place to try on this qipao and see if it fits.
It was just past 6 p.m. Classes usually resumed in the teaching buildings around 7 p.m., so right now, the classrooms would be empty—and therefore the safest place to go.
